marchafb
Why would you want to run GRAW without a sound card? If you have enough money for the game......sound cards are not that expensive.
Ruin
Yeah, get a soundcard off of NewEgg for $8... it's better than nothing. Heck, I've been using the same card in 4 different PCs for the past 6 years now and run BF2 with it. A soundcard won't effect your ability to run GRAW, just your ability to play it. Onboard sound is good too, if you have it, use it.

Cpl Ledanek
I got Audigy2ZS and I thought its the best addition. I ended replaying the entire GR1 Mission all over, and discovering other sounds (esp White Skull Valley---hidden cave ) that I didn't hear before. My 2 cents is if you don't have 5.1 speakers why bother with soundcard. Wait, I take that back, there's Audio fx 5.1 headphone that is on the front page of GR.NET. Click the banner ad. I'll shut up now. Strick budget get AudigY 2 ZS. If you got some more pennies get X-FI, I want one too.
1234321
IS THIS card dx9 compatible?
WhiteKnight77
While I am not sure if that one is, I know this one is and that is a good price on it too. Of course, you only get a driver disk for it, you have to download the software from Creative. As far as the other card, yuo could try the Creative website for more information on it. WhiteKnight77
I am going to say its a DX8 card as it only supports EAX3 and the ZS cards support EAX4. I recommend the other card even though it is $25 more than you wish to spend as you can add speakers at a later date (5.1 or 7.1 sound will blow you away really and you will never want to use headphones again). This card will last a good many years. It is the same card I have and am very happy with it. Maybe see if your folks will match your funds for it if you can. smokin
Ive always used a headset and onboard sound. Most new boards and even old ones have the same power/capabilities of other sound cards you can buy.
Joseph_Q
camon guys Im sure that soundblaster live is more than enough to run the game with decent sound. Im also sure that game will run on cheap mobo integrated cards.

GRiN_desmond22
During development we had all kinds of weird problems with onboard cards, forcing us to solve things on the software side instead, and simulate more channels, etc. I'd vote against settling for an onboard card - get any Creative Card with EAX 2.0 or above. Audigy 2 is a good investment - regardless of wheter you play with headphones or speakers. For all you who have 5.1 or 7.1 systems, I can only say - congratulations! You really have an audio feast to look forward to.
Ghost9
a good soundcard is pretty cheap, like 100-150 US dollars. go grab one, you'll see a system performance boost and you'll be happy you did.
Aaronson
The point is tho that onboard sound uses existing CPU bandwidth (wich is bad). Sound cards do all the work instead and ontop make sounds clear and crisp, plus give you options like EAX etc. During development we had all kinds of weird problems with onboard cards, forcing us to solve things on the software side instead, and simulate more channels, etc. I'd vote against settling for an onboard card - get any Creative Card with EAX 2.0 or above. Headphones where great when I was single---yes it affects your social life too . With my Logitech 5100 or is it 5300, I can hear everything the game designers threw in the game. Interesting enough when I was playing GT Legends on the Mini Cooper, I can hear the springs, metal parts rubbing on each other, the tires rubbing on the curve vs asphalt...on and on. On RBSLD, the ricochets was great in the prison map for MP.

TedSmith
Now im confused, I got 7.1 surrouund sound built into my computer's mobo, .... I guess its a congrates And get a new sound card! For anyone who cares it a MSI neo Nforce 4 platnum board. ← The ONLY onboard sound solution that was ever worth a spit was the Nforce 2 series with Soundstorm. The only sound solution I've ever heard of that had a Dolby Digital encoder built in. Other than that, even the hyped 5.1 and 7.1 solutions pale in comparison to the quality produced by a real sound card. What aggravates me right now is that I just bought myself an X-Fi and didn't properly research the situation first. I'm one of the unlucky bunch that bought a digital speaker set, which is now 100% useless with the X-Fi since they scrapped the digital DIN output. So after buying the new sound card at $300, I have to now go and buy a new set of speakers with proper analog connectors, after they hyped the digital connection of the Audigy series so much only to drop it with the next model. Anyways, rant aside... if you care at all about game audio, don't ever trust it to an onboard sound solution.
