flash45
Let me ask another newbie question. Are there any good on-line tutorials for learning appropriate tactics for GR? I have looked at the web sites for GR that I have come across but I haven't seen too much. The best I have seen is the Basic tactics on this web site and the single player tactics at the GR platoon site. However, I would like to find more detailed discussions. I am not looking for walkthroughs but rather discussions on how to deplay the teams, coordinate movement, perform recon, etc. I have noticed that there is a "official guide" book for GR available at Amazon but is the book worth it to cover tactics? Thanks. Jerry
WhiteKnight77
It does offer some tips, but the best way to learn is to join in some online games. I have the book and it does give you some walkthroughs and info about weapons and such. Remember the biggest thing to remeber about GR is to take it slow and use any cover possible. hero2zer0
best tactics is ur own game style, play as u know, dont try new things everyday and dont try to immitate others, it will just make u lose more. practice makes perfect, play it ur way and u'll eventually get the hang of things and remember - GR is just a game, nothimg more nothing less
Zantar45
Well defenitly mix up the way you play, try new styles, whatever works for you is as good as it comes. I used to run and gun, then I used to snipe, then play defensivly , then camp.By doing all these styles, I learned which ones work for me, and now I have a mixture of styles that keep me alive, and moderatly killing. but thats my opinion. the.ronin
check out the tactical gamer web site. as the name might suggest, they are all about tactical gaming. they got one forum on there thats all mad tactics for gr. interestingly enough you can find good tactics right out of military documents. i think it was the ranger handbook (?) where i learned to employ proper ambush formations for subtle keep. sweet. Sgt.Crocodile
As the others said............The best place to learn is on online games, specially coop games. Learn something and try to repeat it later on SP. As for the tactics.......i like to set ambushes and i always carry silenced weapons. A good one..........toss a grenade and quickly relocate....the tangos will search the place where u were and then....shoot the dumb ones. I call it the "grenade bait"
462cid
A good one..........toss a grenade and quickly relocate....the tangos will search the place where u were and then....shoot the dumb ones. I call it the "grenade bait" I agree Sarge, that one works well. The bad guys seem to be able to tell the spot from which a grenade came. I set up a fireteam with a SAW that covers the spot the grenade lobbing team was. The grenade lobber team then pulls back quickly to one flank or the other of the SAW team. I call it the instant ambush.
WickedWeasel
Best tip I can give is....play the game as if you are really there. Turn off all those glaring background lights in the house, turn up the headphones and enjoy.
Sgt.Crocodile
Turn off all those glaring background lights in the house, turn up the headphones and enjoy. Indeed, but i advise: This is not for those who have weak hearts
ghost gamer
here are some tips.... 1)-Take it slow. Learn to play the game slow. Rushing will only get you killed and you'll become frustrated and miss out on all that GR has to offer. 2)-Remember this is not an arcade type game. The weapons are based on, for the most part, real ballistics. Which means if an enemy sees you first, you are gonna die. 3)-Be sure that the soldiers you take on a mission are the right guys for the job, in terms of class, weaponry and completing all assigned objectives. In determing the number of soldiers to take, more is not always better. Ask yourself, "can I justify taking this many on this mission?" 4)-Resist the temptation to engage the enemy at first contact and learn to do proper recon. Before engaging, have you scouted the area? Do you have an idea of the total force in the area? Do you hold any high ground? Does the enemy hold the high ground? Are your flanks protected? Can you set up the enemy in a cross fire? Is there armor in the area? At the point of intial contact, what cover is provided for the Ghosts? 5)-Cover, cover and more cover. Learn to become happy crawling.Short bursts on auto weapons are best. Be aware that silienced weapons are great, but you trade killing power for noise suppression. 6)-Play the first mission over and over and before you move on, be sure you are happy with your performance on the first mission. 7)-Do everything you can to create the sense of total imersion. For me, its no lights at all in the room and alittle extra juice to my PCI
Scully
I would have to agree first with WhiteKnight77 in that taking it slow..... Be very paitent. Think first then act. Also with wickedweasel If you were deployed would you run around upright making a bunch of noise, knowing someone wants to shoot you if they see you? If you're pretending your there you will follow the first point..... slow, paitent, deliberate . My .02 cents Cheers
redneck
3)-Be sure that the soldiers you take on a mission are the right guys for the job, in terms of class, weaponry and completing all assigned objectives. In determing the number of soldiers to take, more is not always better. Ask yourself, "can I justify taking this many on this mission?" Something I learned early on (I am still a noob): usually bringing a lot of guys just means more targets for the enemy.
