Sup 0
http://ps2.gamespy.com/articles/699/699388p1.html At least two major film studios have reportedly pulled support for Sony's proprietary Universal Media Disc format, and retailers may soon follow suit. Reuters has reported that while Wal-Mart representatives have declined comment that the retailer is getting out of the UMD business, studio sources state that such a move is imminent. Lysander 0
Wow However, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Paramount Pictures have reportedly completely halted the production of UMD movies. One high-ranking Universal executive stated that "It's awful. Sales are near zilch. It's another Sony bomb -- like Blu-ray."
Hatchetforce 0
If Wal-mart drops support, it will be seen as a deathblow by analysts. I do own several UMDs. The upside is maybe it will force Sony to start actually making more games.

Rocky 1,224
I am a huge PSP fan, for me it is the gadget of the year. However, I am not surprised by this at all. The UMD idea is cool, but totally lacks any common sense. Who is going to buy a film on a medium that can ONLY be run on one device - a tiny one at that? Who would do that when you can buy the DVD and convert it for the PSP, thus having the option of large or small screen playback? Where would you need to be in the world that a PSP was really the best option for watching a movie? The PSP is great for video playback, the quality is mind blowing. I watch heaps of media stuff on my PSP, where and when it is convienient, but full movies? Nah - that's for TV's or cinema screens.
