Recon Mission part 2

Recommended Posts

well, here is my take on why sending a member vs. a video would be better. (unless that footage is a 2 hour long documentary on AW)

A person having access to the game will see a lot more info than all of us watching a video.

Even if we do see the game in motion, lots of questions would remain. It would only serve the purpose of temporarily satisfying our many eyes and see how good the game looks, because unless you are sitting at the commands, a video is video. Lots of info will still be missing and our questions would only multiply.

Plus it is my guestimate that the reason behind the non existence of a video is because Ubi / GRIN are still not sure what features will make the final cut, Ex: No hand signals after all. So I think it’s a lot less damageable for everybody, to show the game to somebody that will talk about the features, than it is to show them in a vid. Especially considering that the vids are used as a promotion tool, and to show things that will not be in-game would constitute false advertisement. Making sense?

Plus, wouldn’t a video tease us to death? Aren’t we ready for the DEMO? A video would be nice but would not cut it at this point. There as been enough teasing so far and unanswered qs. I would much prefer info, details, and precise answers without restrain.

Of course we would love to see the game in motion. So if somebody wants to start yet another AW video campaign… we might see a different result.:o=

The best that we can do now is to send a member over there to analyse and gather info for the comm. That person whom ever it might be should be prepared to be assaulted from every angle with questions even a month after the mission. It will be fun but be prepared friends.

Btw i changed my mind about the Recon mission.

Not one but 4 ppl should go. Why? Coop play. 4 ppl against the bots.

The AIs are supposed to be good?

Show us :)

Sure bro! If they want to send 32 ppl over there that’s fine with me. :)

Btw are you with the Polishing Weevils or are you a supporter? I believe that you are part of the crew that created Obsidian Edge and if so you should be one of the members to go over there just because you will have a different outlook on the game and a knowledgeable point of view on what’s been done so far. Along with Rugg and Suli, Soroc.

You guys have my respect and I trust you 100% for the ppl vs ppl match side of things.

But for Coop play I would like to see Coop vets.

And if only one should go. Well that person gonna have to find a way check everything by him self. Even the SP campaign if time permits.

Anyhwo, there is not enough info at the moment to determine these things, just be prepared for every possibility. Unlike a video game, we will only have one try with this mission bros.

Yep!

RatoN, you can keep posting m8 but I think you are living in some sort of dreamworld to think that just because YOU think a visit is required then GRIN must comply.

And as Colin said, you think that the person (oops, now it's personS) would have free reign to just try anything they wanted and come back and tell all.

Even if another visit was to happen your Eutopian vison would turn out like this.

US: So....what's it like then?

Visitor: Nice.

US: Hmmm.... So what's the MP like? Is the AI good?

Visitor: I can't comment on that.

US: Ok... What's the XXXXXX like then?

Visitor: I can't tell you that.

Ad Infinitum.

Personally I would prefer to see some video footage, some loosening on BO so he could give some more information and eventually a demo.

You say seeing video would just tease us to death. Personally knowing that some people have had the opportunity to go and play the game and STILL not be able to tell us anything would tease me more.

Tell you what..

If YOU think that all this is not such a good idea and that a video would be better..

Why don’t you start a topic about a AW video then?

I’ll support you all the way bro

Arrangments are under way for people to see graw.

Who they are and where they come from is not up for comment.

Once a visit has been done and all the normal rules for disclosure will come in to play.

Please this subject is now wearing a bit thin, and a bit pointless carrying it on.

No that would be spoiling a plan.

An idea would be to give your advice and others on what to look for, and how to discribe things in detail.

For instance, arrived ar Grin to day nice building some many floors, type of greeting, rooms, equipment used, how you were introduced to the game, what was lunch like, etc etc you know what I mean.

It needs to be told in such a way that the reader feels they are there with you, when they are reading what you have to say on the visit.

I hope you get my drift?

Colin

For the format of the report, I think that WK77 report is a reference and should be studied by who ever is chosen. That being said this will be a unique experience, and what ever format this new report takes, we can live with. As long as the info about the game is there, I’m happy.

It’s hard to talk about the details on what to look for, there are not enough details about what it’s going to be like, what’s going to be shown, allowed. SP, MP??

But here is a small list just in case

(?) Coop..

- On what type of machine did you experience the game (Play or just watch) CPU, GPU, RAM (dxdiag).

- What options are there in the Option screen. Video resolutions, HUD etc.

- The weapons option screen. List all the type of primary weapons and secondary. And what can you bring along with you in the Backpack. Grenades and what? How many?

- How long does it take to load up the game.

- First impression about the game. What you see. How you feel about it.

- Is it smooooth or shoppy. How bout them graphics, textures, lighting effect.

- Did the HUD bother you at all. How easy is it to get the info.

- The AIs. Enemy and backup. Smart? If you shot at them, do they stay and shoot back like GR1, or do they try and protect them self’s?

- AI backup, and the combination of orders you can give them.

- Voice command?

- The PPU thing. Can you destroy a house?

- How about the UAV? Can it be shot down?

- And the command map, is it like GR1

- The buildings access. Can you go inside many buildings or just a few.

- The roof top. How do you go on these roofs? Inside stairs or outside ladders.

- Did the Crew find a way to implement the replays

- How are they doing over there? do they look beaten or are they in a good mood?

- How many ppl were there workin. All of them or just a few?

…

- Impression about the game.

- Liked

- Disliked

- Will the game ship in May or does it look unfinished.

…

Basically everything is of interest

Just in case

If someone can come up with a list of things to look for in MP (players vs players) for the person that will go over there, that would be cool.

I thought this was just a "wishful thinking" thread. I would go to GRIN's HQ if someone invited me (*hint*).

Sorry simulacra and Steel Hack, I smell cronyism!

Cronyism: favoritism shown to friends and associates (as by appointing them to positions without regard for their qualifications)

I had to look that one up to know it exactly :sheep:

Been thinking about this and proly what they gonna do is have the person play the demo. If you look at the time line that is the most plausible scenario. Then again be ready for anything.

Btw, can someone come up with a list of things to look for in MP Player vs Player for the missionary? I don’t play online so I can’t do it my self. Thx

That without regard for qualifications is the operative phrase there.

If you think about what UBI and GRIN need in the guest(s), it makes sense to me that they would pick mods at this site, not because they're rewarding "cronies" so much as they can trust the mods at this site to abide by the NDA, and the mods at this site not only have writing experience, but they have game review writing experience.

Also, as far as the NDA goes, think about it from UBI's perspective -- it's a lot easier to trust someone to follow an NDA if the person has a personal interest in keeping their mouths shut other than just the agreed to ramifications spelled out in the NDA.

Rocky, for example, would be far more obliged to follow the NDA than most of us because if he violates it, not only will he be subject to the penalties stated in the NDA, but he would also lose the access that he has built up over the years to RSE, UBI, and now GRIN. He wouldn't give that up. That alone would be enough to keep his lips tight, so he's more trustworthy than the average forum-rat, plain and simple.

One final note -- I see in posts here from time to time where people seem to equate the mods here with the devs, like somehow they're on the same level. They're not. The mods here are fans -- big fans -- like the rest of us. The difference between them and us is that they have created something of significance -- GhostRecon.net -- the largest (to my knowledge), most thorough, and most professionally run Ghost Recon fansite on the planet. If they go, it's not cronyism -- it's reward, and it's a well-deserved reward.

Some people might ask, "Why do they deserve to go more than any of the rest of us." Why? -- Because they worked harder for it than any of the rest of us.

Meh, to have a no-special-status-joe go over there would make a better pr event.

As long as joe is familiar with SP, MP and Coop, that’s all that matters.

For the nda, I don’t expect it to be too heavy this time. The more joe talks. The better it will be for all parties. What ever they don’t want to disclose, they not gonna show.

:FIREdevil: Unless we send them a spy… hahaha  HAHAHAHAHAHAHA :FIREdevil:

I'm w/you, RatoN: experienced, no-special-status-joe  and... non-partisan!

:D Plus, there are many members here who are good writers / professional editors etc. who could quickly polish up any report to ensure its quality.

Hum... sending a spy is good too!

To whom will go..

You won’t be able to remember everything you saw or heard.

- Take a sound recording device with you. Though it is not your primary objective, you might get interesting answers if you ask the right questions. Plus it’s a good way to take notes on your observations.

- You might be authorised to take screenshots for your personal use to help you write the report. If so, take em. If there is a way to record the whole thing, that would be even better.

- A camera might be useful. You will probly not relive this experience again and we would like to see too.

So take appropriate hardware with you.

- Push your luck. Ask about the expansion pack. You never know.

- Don’t be selfish. Bring me back a GRIN or GRAW T-shirt you!

:)
