HUD the final word.

Recommended Posts

Ok we've had a big HUD discussion recently but strangly enough i don't feel much settled by it. Almost like a lot was said but not much info was imparted.

I understand why we can't get gerneral media yet but i don't see why there has to be a big embargo on definite HUD details.

So instead of asking about each element and whether or not it can be removed or not, let me ask this one simple question.

. . . . When I play GRAW PC in MP with 'ALLLLLLL' the selectable HUD options and on screen visuals (diamonds etc) turned off . . . . . . . what 'CAN' i see??? I mean, i wan't to know what the most minimum bare bones HUD/visuals can be.

If i could just have 'compas, gun/fire rate and posture indicator. That would be nice. ;)

ok, but with the current mag counter and without the ammo count in current mag

in RL you should know how many mags/203's left :rocky:

Its known the HUD will be different in MP.

We also know Grin are reluctant to talk about the MP and all that it entails.

Right now I cannot answer questions on DEMO, VIDEO, MP, REPLAYS or the CONSOLE VERSION.

So if you have not received an answer there you know why.

I would say this area is still hush hush.

Me I would want lots of options as possible.

I Kinda look at it this way If a Dev Team dont want publish information for what ever reason, thats up to them, not my concern, and Im certainly not going to fret over it.

The HUD information we will get in due course when the Devs decide, that is good enough for me.

I don't mind how much crap is in the HUD for the SP cause to me that's not so important. Just a distraction for a few weeks while i get used to the game. The MP is why i'll be buying the game.

I joke not though when i say that if the cross com can't be turned off in MP then i'll be stcking a post it over it while i play (really, i'm serious about that.)

The funny thing about the GR:AW HUD concept, is that I'm just not into it. In real life I think a HUD like GR:AW's would be pretty damn sweet. In a game about possible future warrior gear, it for some reason just is a hard sell for me. Maybe it's because the technology is still kind of sci-fi like, because it is not used by any soldier or SF Operator on a regular basis or at all. The US Army is thinking of introducing their future warrior gear in 2011 (or somewhere around then).

For example:

If GR:AW were something like Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, well then a HUD is expected and welcomed. Fighter aircraft obviously use HUDs and use them all the time. Playing a hardcore combat flight simm like F4:AF makes you want to have all of the super real world sophisticated technology. It really exists and that makes it easier to connect with and accept (in my opinion).

GR1 introduced us to the US Army's future warrior gear, but it was for some reason easier to accept. It could be because features such as the command map were something only viewed for short periods of time. It was not pasted on the screen, obstructing your view. The friendly and tango tracking on the command map was a little over done, but it was some how “transparent†and subtle. In my opinion, the command map and sensors should show all dots as one color. That way you still have to think about what is or isn't on the other side of a door. That would make it feel more believable, being advanced technology and yet not perfect.

I'm happy to see that GRIN did take some steps in toning down the HUD for the PC GR:AW. Real HUDs can look like they're floating in front of you or to the side, they don't feel so "flat". Of course we have to deal with the flat feeling since we are all using flat screens (normal 4:3 or even 16:9). Pulling the HUD elements out to the edges of the screen and fading the functionless outline helped to clear up some of the clutter (as Bo has already shown us). Personally I think the outline should fade out completely.

For me, to make the GR:AW HUD more acceptable it needs to continue to be streamlined, simplified, and refined. It still has the "console baby fat on it"(nice way of saying "horsy" and "clunky"). All of the unnecessary decorative interface elements need to be removed. When the HUD appears in the PC GR:AW, it should give you the feeling of "nice concept" and "great interface design execution".

But in the end I just hope to have the option to toggle all of the HUD features on/off (separately). I keep remembering the shaky video footage of the PC GR:AW with only a first person weapon view and no HUD. It looked so clean.

If a black hawk pilot, General, or even a fellow Ghost has something to say, he can say it over the comms. If they need to show me something, tell me over the comms, I’ll look at it as soon as I can. I don’t need any HUD elements obstructing my view as I’m trying to avoid the storm of hot lead firing on my position.

I can't at all understand what possible reason the pr blackout on MP details would be.

Just wanna know what the skinny is on the HUD. Is that too much to be ask.

My guess is that much of the blackout of information has to do with exclusivity contracts with the media outlets not to mention they don't want to take away from the Xbox 360 hype. And I have to say, now that I played it, and if they were anticipating the level of success they have had, from a marketing direction, I can now understand why.

Nice post Silent, I hope the powers that be take the time to read it.

Yeah i'm pretty sure PC players don't want 'ANY' 'decoration' on the HUD.

It wil be ironic if after the claim of 'thousands' of options if we end up complaining about a lack of certain HUD options for MP. Just give us total HUD control and we'll be happy. I don't even care if my opponants have all the HUD features and get an advantage from it. just want to feel i'm there and not feel i'm looking at a computer screen, even if it's 'supposed' to be a computer screen on the batlefeild.
