supasniper
AMD by far... the best gaming cpu for raw power at the moment is the FX57 but with the games that are coming out in the near future that take advantage of dual core it's gonna loose it's crown in fairly short order
CrowmanUK
or if you'd got way too much money you could always buy an FX-60, get me one too while you're at it
Striker-1991
for me an Athlon 64 X2. I know there are only a few games out there that have multithreaded engines but this will change in the near future. I'm running a X2 here at work and "running" is the right word Edited March 3, 2006 by Striker-1991
Papa6
yeah as crowie said, the FX60. It's a dual core CPU sporting nice L2 Caches and it's alone at the top versus Intel...
Snake@War
Athlon 64 x2. Games need to start using HT & dual core more often. It's a waste of money if they don't start supporting the latest hardware...
CR6
Which processor is better for gaming at the moment, an Intel or an Anthlon? ← There's no doubt at this point in time AMD is better for gaming. One of the reasons is AMD's CPU runs more instructions per cycle, so although the MHz are less than a P4, it is more powerful. The P4 seems to only be better at things like video encoding at this point. The P4's HT advantage is moot now with dual-cores coming on the market. The P4 has hit a wall once it came out with it's Prescott line of P4's, and their dual-core design out right now is more a last-minute rush job to compete with the Athlon 64 x2's more elegant design. This may all change by the end of 2006, when Intel comes out with their Core Duo desktop CPUs. AMD is responding by moving to a new socket and DDR2 memory, so it will be interesting who will be on top by the end of this year.

=warcloud=
Which processor is better for gaming at the moment, an Intel or an Anthlon? ← As of now Intel. It trounced the overclocked to 2.8ghz FX60 in gaming and other apps. I'm sure AMD will manufacture a faster gaming cpu? AMD FX60 trounced by Intel Conroe --> http://theinquirer.net/?article=30136

Foxtrot360
AMD, atleast theyre newest proccessors. I have an Intel P4 and i dont have any slowness or problems, its better than AMD Athlon original IMO. But that doesent change that theyre new AMD FX and dual cores are way better, mostly for gaming. I also note, many games dont use as much Proccessor speed as RAM and Video right?
