CPU and Fan Q

Curious, I know that HS makes up a giant part of your cooling. But if I replace my current fan (retail and quite good actually) with a slightly more powerful fan CFM wise then will it make that much a diff or is it all really in the HS? Thanks

The Heatsink itself is the primary transfer device, hence its need to be as thermally non-resistant as possible.

Aluminum is used in most heatsinks, due to its fast heat dissapation. However, Copper is a better conductor of heat. So some manufactures try to get the best of both worlds, by combining a copper core for primary transfer, then an aluminum outer shell to increase heat dissapation. My Thermaltake Volcano 9 is this way.

A better fan would help though. For instance, my 80mm can produce up to 75 CFM at full speed (4800RPM). A smaller (40mm) would rotate at say 5800RPM, yet only produce around 25 to 34 CFM.

I would look into ThermalRight or Thermaltake for a good HSF combo. I think RooK uses an AX-7, and he apparently likes the results. I spent around $25 for my V9.

Edit: I would also consider purchasing Arctic Silver Compound. The industry-standard goop is not really that great. You will notice a definite difference using a Silver Compound. Another thing to try would be "lapping" your heatsink. I have done this with mine(took me 1.5hours), and have noticed a few degrees Celcius drop in temperature.. There are plenty of tutorials on the 'net for this procedure. However, I can provide some assistance if needed.

Thanks, my temps arent bad Idle was last at 33C and Load reaches max of 45C but being me I like colder. I was mainly looking at fan but I guess I will research some more. And I went ahead and translated your last post into l33t for fun.
