Faceman
Hey guys, I've just come across VBS1 and I've got to say it sounds exactly like what I've been looking for in a sim/game. However before laying down my hard earned cash there are a few things I'd like to have cleared up and I think you guys having had first hand experience with it are the ones to ask. First up, I see it's not exactly new and that VBS2 has already been announced. Have I already missed the boat, or is there still enough in it to make it a worthwhile purchase now? Secondly, are there any single player "missions" or is it strictly an online product - ala Battlefield series? Cheers.
Pave Low
Hi welcome to the forums, If you havent already done so it's is worth reading this thread > VBS1 F.A.Q.s, Read if your thinking of buying First up, I see it's not exactly new and that VBS2 has already been announced. Have I already missed the boat, or is there still enough in it to make it a worthwhile purchase now? It's a very tough one, VBS1 is the #1 tactical sim, but it isn't cheap and you would have to get the majority of the packs to get the most from it (you definitely get what you pay for though) and Yes there is certainly enough still in it, for example Terrain Pack 3 + USArmy modules were just released. VBS2 is due out Q3 2006, it may be worth hanging on unless you can pick up one of the deals.. If you haven't tried it, it is worth buying the Op Flashpoint Game Of The Year pack first as it will give you a taste of some of what to expect from VBS1 and there are a ton of great mods out for it (eg BWM UKF Etc...) *Also Armed Assault should be out this year to which is a updated Op Flashpoint engine. see the other sub-forums here for details an of these other games Secondly, are there any single player "missions" or is it strictly an online product - ala Battlefield series? there are a few single player missions available, but the primary raison d'etre and strength of VBS1 is brilliant online (or LAN) Multiplayer coop with other players against damn sneaky tactical AI foes. Striker-1991
Talking about VBS1, you should consider the Operation Flashpoint GOTY Edition. VBS1 has 98% the same game engine, only some scripting changed. VBS1 comes with a variety of addons that OFP not has, but you can find most of the models and much more as community addons for OFP (for free). look at http://www.ofp.info to see the hundreds of addons and btw. OFP GOTY has 3 single player campaings included and there are a lot more campaings from the community
Faceman
Thanks guys, really helpful posts - just what I was after I think in that case then, I'll go out and get the Operation Flashpoint GOTY edition to keep me busy in the mean while, then snatch up VBS2 when it comes out later this year Just hope they don't hike the price up of VBS2 to like $500 or something nasty like that
Faceman
Oh really? I didn't think of that. How reliable are these rumors - I mean is it taken from a post by a developer working on it or something like the fact that they just havent released much info on it to the public? This could prove tricky, maybe I will end up buying VBS1 if that is the case then. BTW SnowFella, just checked out your website and I've got to say; damn, they are some fine looking models you got there! Have these been included in any mods yet? SnowFella
And thanks re. the models mate. Some of them are already in GR and others are working their way into VBS1. Unfortunately my free time is very limited in the coming few months and work on my VBS1 project is nearly at a standstill.
