Medieval: Total War 2

Now that you say something about it, I think there have been two "Ages" to Total War games, The Sprite Era (Shogun and Medieval) and the 3D Era (Rome and Medieval 2). Personally I'm not a huge fan of the 3D strategy map employed in Rome and M2. May be old school but it just seems to cluttered, can't go wrong with a nice flat map and little pieces to move around like in Medieval 1.

Well the 3D map has a bit more depth than the 2D and it also contains more than 10 000 maps (!)

About the units, isn't the chaotic feeling with not seeing you're own units a good and authentic thing? I thought medieval wars where chaotic so I only see this as a good feature :)

I really like the new individual fighting, even tho it looks a bit Hollywood-ich some times with the "spinning-move" and the "headbutt" :P

Well, it should be released here in the US in about a half hour. I'm staying up late in order to head over to Walmart and pick it up here soon. Just installed the latest Nvidia graphics drivers and I'm all set to install. I won a $20 gift card to Walmart for getting 2nd place in an intramural badminton tournament here last weekend. Of course, only myself and one other guy showed up but hey, I'll take the prize! ;)

Argh. So I went last night, no game. I called this morning to Walmart and BestBuy... no game. I'll try later tonight. *sigh* How is it? :)

It's not a big leap towards Rome, but that was quite expected. Great game tho :)

You get pretty much everything from Rome in a different package. Better graphics and some improved AI but no big difference really.

My favorite feature right now is the animations and the graphics. The cavalry moves very smooth and realistic.

I do know about two annoying things in the game (bugs I guess).

- Incredible poor pathfinding in cities.

- Cavalry stops right infront of enemies when charging (known bug)

A patch will be released when the US version of the game is released. So it has been said anyway.

Overall: 8/10

Read the manual? Who does such things, its blasphemy.

Still trying to scrape together $50 for this, but I think I will wait a few weeks until I go home for Christmas Break, that way I actually have time to play it. Also want to get Rainbow Six: Vegas, and that will probably come first.

No pun intended right? ;)

I just beat a short campaign as the English. I defeated the Scottish and the French. I got lucky because once the French were the only ones left, when I attacked they got excommunicated so I ordered a Crusade on one of their cities... ;)

Man, the English Longbowman are sweet. I had a huge army of 6 longbows, a small group of armored cavalry, and tons of dismounted knights with heavy armor. I attacked a large force of mostly spearmen so it wasn't a big deal but they had lots of units. Taking the high ground and watching all my longbows fire flaming arrows into the enemy ranks.... priceless. :D

I'm playing as the English and they are great!

Love their longbowmens.

To bad the Danes have Russian accent

whats even worse is that they left us swedes out of the game completley!! :)

however, since they have the danes I can get revenge against our danish animator for what the danes did to us during stockholms bloodbath! :D hehe

I've been continuing my game with the English. I am basically, the most powerful nation. Sometimes the Byzantines or Mongols surpass me but not often. There's been a desperate struggle for northern Italy. I've been at war with the Milanese for a very long time now. They wanted a cease fire which I gave them under the condition that they give me money. ;) Then, I built up my forces and launched multiple attacks on their cities. They have quite a few cities though and they must be loaded with money because their units are all very expensive. Milanese crossbowmen and trebuchets are about the only thing in their armies which meant I had to switch tactics completely from heavy infantry and longbows to just cavalry. I learned this the hard way when they decimated one of my armies. A few recent strings of victories should help pave the way for me to conquer the rest of their cities. The Danes have been a problem too. They suddenly attacked me while I was at war with the Milanese. Bad timing. I was able to win the battle and had enough troops to attack a close city. I took it but then they attacked back and were able to recapture it because I was dumb and clicked autocalc thinking I would win. :( I haven't gotten to the new world yet but I think I'll be getting close to unlocking it here in another few years. Maybe some Aztec gold will help me in the conquests. :D

I'm pretty disappointed of the AI right now. At almost every siege they put one ladder on tha wall then all fu***** infantry tries to climb up. I get maybe 1-2 FPS so the game gets pretty much unplayable. This must be fixed in the patch, seriously.

Another AI problem is the Pope. France attacked me but the pope did nothing. France dind't even get excommunicated and after a few turns the pope demands ME to stop fighting the French. Hello?! they attacked me first!! >_<

Anyway, I was then attacked by Scotland and after a few turns the pope damended me to stop fighting them, BUT, then I was attacked by Scotland again and they didn't get excommunicated. I couldn't defend myself either with a nearby army since the pope-mission of not fighting Scotland still had 4 turns left <_<

Yeah been playing it for two days now. Had to restart my campaign twice, this is kicking my bum pretty good, that is of course a good thing. In this one it seems things that havent been nearly as important in previous installments like the pope and public happiness (which I found very easy to manipulate) now kick my bum. But my longbowmen are as of right now kicking some French bum.

I just got this .. and its superb. I havent realy got into the world of Strategy type game such as this and Im hooked. Im using an ATI 9800Pro 128MB ... set to shader 1, no shadows, high textrures, high models, high effects, medium grass, AA x2 at 1600x1200 it runs pretty well, I turn AA off on larger battles but its far more FPS friendly without much eye candy loss than I thought it was going to be :rocky:

Audio is great too on this game.

Im a bit lost with campaigns so its slow steps, this is perfect for those darker evenings and cold nights

Also I couldnt run the demo (althon XP) ... so I just took a gamble with posts here and forum reviews and it was a good descision.

Yes at least thats out soon for christmas. I was PMing another member about this but I think they are killig off the battle bugs first so's not to effect campaign / saves .. then in feb with the second update they will look at the Dimplomacy & campaign quirks.

So far due to this and learning the game I havent taken campaigns too far, I have realy been playing custom battles and getting used to that side of it. So I see the flaws & bugs and this update will be good.

I did notice that the siege towers AI bunching / Slide Show FPS thing wasnt listed. Im wondering if through other AI tweaks that has been dealt with as if it wasnt something needed to be directly fixed ref seige towers? Hmmm.
