Please accept my apologies for my silence over the past few days - I've been away since sunday evening. Good thing is, it's my last day at my current employment tomorrow - after that I will (be unemployed and) have a lot of time for modding. Screenies are delayed, and will be posted sometime over the next few days. I have done work on the sound design front though, I've made some pretyy slick new weapon sounds from scratch (these are not ripped direct from vids of the respective weapons being fired, but rather, they are what I have made from scratch). I'm going to attempt (and hopefully succeed) to texture the character models over this weekend. Then the work on the maps can begin, hehe!

The only problem I will encounter will be that I will have too many screenies to post, but I have implemented a plan.... Instead of posting all the screenies, we'll just make an early development trailer in which will include a slide show of the screenies, some "live" scenes where you'll see me modelling weapons/characters, and I may include the audio sequence I've been working on as a backing track (the intention of the backing track is to show off the new weapon sounds)

So once again, watch this space.

While you guys wait for the trailer we are working on, here's a little something I prepared earlier:

DF_site_ss01.jpg

I'm still coding the site and updating the content, hence, the site is not online yet. What you see there is a pic of the beta (offline) site. It's based off the template of my main site, with all the colours changed. Not even my main site is finished yet (and it's still offline 'til I finish it)

GB is at work this weekend, so we are expecting to have the trailer completed by mid to end of the coming week.

It looks like someone has been really busy! :D

Any spoilers about the missions? (which maps etc?)

Now that would be telling, hehe! OK, er... I can tell you that one mission will feature Dutch Army soldiers. The Danish Army work extremely closely with the Dutch Army out in Bosnia, and often carry out military operations together. I have a photo of a Danish Army captain briefing his soldiers, point out things on a map. The map is placed on the bonnet of a Dutch jeep and stood with the Danish Army captain is a Dutch Army officer (not sure whether he's a sergeant or what).

Anyway, GB has the audio for the trailer now, I've just sent him the audio. For those that don't know, GB is doing the visual part of the trailer, I'm doing the audio part. The audio part is now complete, as is funny in places. We may have a trailer out sooner than expected.

So it's over to you now GB, do your thing man! EDIT: oh hang, on, I need to send you the pics etc yet to use in the trailer!!

The more observant of you may have noticed something special in that screenie of the webpage.... My subnav link are for each of the mods in the Danish Forces project, but look closely, there's two more sections.... The other two sectionc are greyed out - they will be "addons" for the Danish Forces mod. Or I may even incorporate those other two mods into future updates of the Danish Forces mod. I'm going with the three aforementioned mods (Jaegerkorpset, Froemandskorpset and Royal Danish Army) for the mods release, other mods for the Danish Forces projects will come later.

The Danish Forces site might be ready in just a few days too....

Update List (03/04/06)

  • Danish voices for the Ghosts to be incorporated. New voice acting done by a Danish guy and a Danish girl.

This is for the sake of realism. What's the point of having Danish soldiers speaking English (or what ever language version of the game you own)? To me, that makes no sense, and is unrealistic. And no are not "stealing" the Danish voices from the Danish language version of GR - doing so is illegal. The Danish consultant who is on our mod team recently put me through to a Danish guy who will do the male voice acting. It just so happens that this guy knows a girl (a pretty one too, so he tells me :) ) who will do the female voice acting... She has done a voice mod for Far Cry, so she knows what it's all about.

  • Upon the mod's initial release, there will be two versions available: Danish and English.

The English one will be subtitled in English, and the menu screens etc will be in English. The Danish one will have all the menu screens in Danish and the text part of the briefings will be in Danish.

I am aware that some people might start saying that if the Ghost speak Danish, the person playing the mod (if they are not Danish or do not speak Danish) would not be able to understand what the Ghosts are saying. The Ghosts in the mod are Danish and will speak to each other in Danish (they would in real life!). It's as simple as that. I hope you guys understand where I coming from with this.

And yes, the audio part of the briefings will also be spoken in Danish. Why? Well, like I keep saying about everything else in this mod: for the sake of realism. I will of course subtitle the audio in the briefings; the text in the briefings will be English (or Danish for the Danish version of the mod).

I was talking with a ex-Danish Army officer yesterday. It appears some of my details on Danish Army equipment etc. are incorrect. I sure learned alot. I learned that:

- The HK21 is not in use with the Danish Army, never has been. There are several websites that say the Danish Army use the HK21, but they don't (it's probably used by the SF units though). This means no specialist with custom HK21 w/scope. Guess I'll give that specialist a custom MG3 instead (I seen MG3's with nightvision scopes, so surely normal scopes can be mounted onto them?)

- The MG3 is very widespread among Danish Army units. More widespread than I originally though (doesn't help seeing Danish gunners with just the C7 LSW in all the pics I got). So I will make it 50% so reg. gunners have the C7 LSW and 50% have the MG3.

- The G3 is also in widespread use with the Danish Army. Howerver, due to conditions, it would more than likely not be used in Iraq/Afghanistan or Bosnia (well that's what he told me)

- The Danish flak vest was developed as one of the newer style flak vests where you can clip on/remove various pockets to various areas of the vest - like you can with the US flak vests, so I'm told. I had wondered why I kept on seeing picture of Danish soldiers with the British webbing harness, but no webbing pockets around the front of the chest/waist. This explains it. Also, the Danish wear that webbing harness with the front webbing straps going down around under the armpits, whereas the Brits where it with the straps going down the front of the chest. So I will add some flak vest pockets to various soldiers flak vests. In that menu screen I posted a few weeks back, the female Danish Army soldier has a mag pocket clipped onto her flak vest on her chest.

Anyway, onwards an upwards, I must perpare the visuals for this trailer....

The first WIP, lol, you haven't got all the screens yet! Hit me up on MSN Messenger later on.

EDIT: but saying that, what you done so far is awesome, although, the "1" comes up about a second after he says it, just need to adjust that timing a little bit. Other than than, awesome job! I especially like the bit you've done for the intro part of the audio I did for the trailer, that's classic.

BTW - Squad E, gift of the gods is not right! Hehe, I think you know what I'm talking about with that *catchphrase* there.

I'm making more versions of the basic soldier character models of late. So now that gives me:

Rifleman/webbing harness 1/helmet/goggles up

Rifleman/webbing harness 1/helmet/goggles down

Rifleman/webbing harness 1/boonie

Rifleman/webbing harness 1/beret

Rifleman/webbing harness 1/headset

Then I have all of the above models but wither neck protection done up around their neck (I'll post a pic of what I mean with the next protection thing later).

And the same as those above plus the same ones but with their neck protection done, but with webbing harness 2. So already, that 20 different character models. plus I'll probably do all the same models but with their sleeves rolled up. Oh and not forgetting the ones wearing just t-shirts under their flak vests. So I'll probaly have around 30ish character models for the reg riflemen alone. However, I'm likely gonna use the same character models for the gunners, but demo's and (obviously) snipers will have slightly different character models.

You'll have to wait for the trailer for the pics of the new and improved rifleman character models!

I'm just sorting out the last few renders for the trailer now. I'll be posting some additional renders later tonight; my SIG P210 weapon model is looking good already.
