The new Astra Galinsky character model and the RAFR character model have been sucessfully exported. I just need to try them out in game, see how they look. Then I'll post some screens of them.

Slowly, but surely, we're getting there. Exporting over 100 new character models will sure take some time! But after the exporting process, DANFOR will be almost ready to go.

OK, Astra has arrived! That's right, my new Astra model is now working in game. However, there is a problem, a big problem.... I've just applied her updated skin through the GR skinner app. and only the skin only fits the torso and boonie properly. It fit fine prior to export, so there's no reason why it shouldn't fit now. Anyway, she looks kinda funky now I think you'll agree. Check out her l33t camo face paint application skillz:

Image

Seriously though, anyone know why the skin is coming up like this?

In contrast, the RAFR model seems to be displaying the respective skin correctly:

Image

The RAFR skin is not finished yet, I need to add badges and things too it. Note the wool cuffs on the sleeves - they wear different jackets (atleast in woodland environments) compared to their reg. British Army counterparts. The boonie is an attachment (unlike the Astra model where the boonie is fixed). The camos on both were built off my own custom swatches.

Thanks once again to my exporter for getting these exported.

Just so you know, I'm planning a second mission featuring the RAF Regiment guys. It will loosely follow on from Operation Stampede. IRL, it's also the responsibility of the RAFR to patrol town etc near to NATO airfields. On the follow up mission, they receive a tip off to the location of an enemy weapons cache.... But it turns out to be a trap (although the weapons cache is there).... With the two RAFR squads cut off from each other on either side of the map and multiple friendly casualties, the RAFR have no choice but call for assistance. So NATO responds to the enemy counter attack by sending out four Danish infantry squads backed up four M113's and two Leopard 2A6's, along with American air support (who arrive some ten minutes later (real life time) than the ground support) on a search and rescue mission. These are gonna make for some real good and intense missions. Once again, this mission is based on real life events, but IRL, it was Lithuanian troops that came under attack, not RAFR troops, and Danish troops plus armour support along with American air support (two Black Hawks to be precise) participated in the rescue mission.

Just to keep you people updated: the Astra models have been fixed. It seems I had alot of material ID's and the elements between them set up incorrectly, that's why her skin wouldn't show up correctly. Expect some screenshots of the fixed models in due course.

Here we go:

New Astra Galinsky model - woodland version

New Astra Galinsky model - desert version

The skins are not final, there's definitely a few graphical things I need to fix for each of the respective skins. By the time the mod is released, she will also have a new face too.... The default GR head texture for Astra isn't mapped to fit around a pig tail (the original GR model has her wearing a hood, she doesn't the back of her head modeled on the [GR] model), that's why it looks like she's got brown hair with blonde highlights in those pics.

Thanks, but please give some of the credit to Phlook, he fixed that one up for me. The desert model is the original one by me, but for the woodland, I couldn't get her original [GR] arms to fit so Phlook fixed that. Also, it seems that have a tedancy to "frankenstein" the body parts of the models, you know, chop off one limb of one model and fix it onto the other willy nilly. And that's what had caused the skin not to work.... What doing what i did means is that the mesh is not ligned up correctly, which results in errors in the material ID's etc. Turns out Phlook had to re-align alot of my vertices because they were off, and all the while, I swore I had them all ligned up correctly. Guess I gotta contain my random acts of vandalism outbursts stop using my mad "frankensteining" skillz.

You reckon she looks sexy now CC? Wait to you see the finished skin.

Looks pretty good I agree, but shouldnt the 3-color desert on Astra be a little greener in some places? Looks like you made it a darker tanish color instead of the light olive-greenish color that it really is.

3-color has some semi-darkish olive-green in the camo with the brown and tan.

But otherwise, good job.

I'll look into that. I need to adjust the skins anyway, because I've got her wearing a custom jacket I made with two zipped upper pockets and two normal lower pockets, but I will change the zipped upper pockets to normal ones. Also, if you look closely, the woodland skin has no boots or gloves, seems I missed them off the skin and forgot to add them in prior to exporting. lso, the final skin will have pockets on the arms.

I didn`t get any info on a mission though?

I'm working on it. Writing a briefing as if a force commander was giving the briefing to his senior officer(s) who will lead the operation is not easy when I don't have any RL knowledge of that sort of thing. I would have had some RL experience in that sort of thing had the RAF not declined my application two days before Christmas 2006 (I was one step away from starting my training). But hey, what can I do, such is life.

OK, the new Munz & Henkel models and their respective skins are in their final stages of development. Again, woodland and desert versions will be available, with interchangeable headgear (the headgear can be manually re-assigned by the end user should they wish to change it). Shortly after they're exported, the first lot of Danish soldiers should be ready to go. I'm still finalising the Dansktarn seamless pattern now, it should be ready soon.

UPDATE:

- New Guram Osadze woodland model finished. He now has the default Russian head, helmet & headset and the Island Thunder semi-rolled up sleeves. I was thinking of doing a desert version too, but finding a [seamless] swatch of Russian desert camo anywhere is still proving impossible. For the woodland version, I'm gonna give him the Russian VSR camo I think (mind you, he'd look cool in the Russian tigerstripe camo too). Guram's headwear will be attachments, end users will be able to choose from boonie or Russian helmet

- Susan Grey woodland and desert models finished. Woodland model: IT US Marine gunner body, and boonie. Desert model: IT US Marine body edited to have kneepads, trousers not tucked into boots, rolled up sleeves and baseball cap. These are the two models that will also feature in CC's USMC v2 mod. Susan's headwear is fixed and cannot be changed by the end user.

- New Susan Grey skins completed. Model is now ready for exporting.

- Additional RAF Regiment models completed. Now there's two basic bodies on which a selection of one of three different sets of headwear can be used.

- RAF Regiment skins are being finalised, once this process is done the models will be ready for exporting.

- New Jack Stone woodland model with hood up over the balaclava, and desert model with semi-rolled up sleeves, baseball cap & trouser untucked from boots completed.

- Jack Stone skins are being finalised, once this process is done the models will be ready for exporting.

- New Nigel Tunney woodland and desert models are in the works. The woodland model is currently 95% complete.

- Danish woodland skins almost completed. Once they're done, they can be added to the models ready for exporting.

- German skins almost ready for the new Munz & Henkel models. The headwear for this guys can be swapped out by the end user. There's a choice of German helmet, German helmet with goggles or boonie.

- Munz & Henkel woodland skins are currently being finalised. Once this process is done, the models will be exported

- Yugoslav Green Tiger stripe and Brown Tigerstripe variants swatches almost complete. Just been testing out the swatches, from afar they look like all one colour (due to contrast of colours) and from close up you can see the tigerstripe pattern. Then again, if you look at pics of Yugoslav solider wearing the tigerstripe variants during the Bosnia/Kosovo conflicts, you will need to look closely to see the pattern as the contras of the colours make it seem like it's all one colour from a distance

So it looks like there will be some exporting en masse very soon. Thanks to CC for the skinning help

I can no longer edit my above post so I'll post the small update here:

- Most of the character models mentioned in my above post have now been finalised and are ready for export. I'm finalising the remainder of the models as you read this. Most of the skins are now ready too, the remainder will be finalised in due course. I'll be sending the models (along with the skin skins) off for exporting at the end of tody or the end of tomorrow, the latter of which seems more plausible.

It won't be long now. I could possibly have the mod completed or thereabouts within a couple more months, hopefully less. This is just the calm before the storm, and trust me when I say the storm is coming.

Just trying to model the hair for the rest of the head for the Danish female specialist. If I can pull this insane stunt off, it means you will be able to define which heawear you want to use, or you could use her without any headwear.

I've just added a second enemy helmet into the mix too, this one has grass/reeds/leaves over the outside of the helmet. Not quite as many selections of headgear for the new enemies, but 34 new enemy character models should be enough to choose from.

As of right now, the following Danish models have been finalised:

- 16 reg. models

- 4 specialist models (female specialist, gunner specialist 01, sniper specialist 01, sniper specialist 02)

There's seems to be some teething problems with Munz's and Henkel's torsos too, I might have to completely rebuild their custom torsos again.

So let me do a rough work out of the number of Danish reg. models that will be in the mod: 16 variations so far, but this is just with 2 different sets of arms. I have 4 different sets of arms (and legs) so we need to do 8x4 which equals 32. But that's all the models without gloves (just bare hands).... It will be the same number again but with gloves too, so that makes it 64 models. Add to that 12 Danish specialist models, 12 Danish SOF models and 8 Danish vehicle crew models, and that makes a grand total of 96 Danish character models alone! Then there's the [GR] specialists that I've done (of which all but one character has 2 models) aswell as the 34 new enemy character models.

So, where's my medal for making the most character models? :hehe:

The night is young, but I think I'm gonna call it a day on the modelling front.

My day off tomorrow, that I plan to spend modding again, will be disrupted by the fact that I need to attend a staff meeting because management screwed up. All I know is, I was off the day 'it' happened so they can't blame me, hehe.

Ich fühle mich viel Geschwindigkeitsrausch.

I have now finalised 29 'friendlies' character models (that's 7.50MB worth of character models for those that are interested). Now to finish the skins for them....

I would of have most of the skins finalised already if it wasn't for that damn staff meeting this morning. Damn thing threw me off my modding track, especially when I didn't need to be there, I know the score already.

The operational detachments 'JGK' and 'FKP' models aren't in with the first 29 models as I still need to complete them. The Munz, Henkel & Osadze models are also not in with the 29 as I left them out for a sec so I can concentrate on the skinning.

The question is: get some lunch first, or finish the skins first? Hmmmm....

EDIT: And I've just realised that my models with the t-shirts under the flak vests look kinda funky as I've forgotton to move the default jacket vertices by the lower pockets - I need to in effect remove/hide those vertices as the t-shirt would be tucked in.

Jeg som lege med ilden.

Here's a sneak peek of some stuff:

Skin_DK_wdl.jpg

Skin_RAFR_new.jpg

These still need to have all insignia added in, along with pockets on the arms. The webbing in both of them is a modified version of Jack Stone's webbing, we added extra parts to the straps to go up over the shoulders. The trouser in the second pic are 100% custom wrinkles, made by me. The Danish M/84 swatch in the first pic is a 100% custom swatch which was made from a real life pic of Danish M/84 woodland camo roll, as supplied by one my contacts. Look closely, I have rotated the M/84 pattern to different angles for each leg, each arm and each pocket - even the flak vest has the pattern rotated different ways for different sections of it.

Meh, I'd better head off to work now I suppose.... :wall:

"Those who play with matches wets their beds at night" as we say in Denmark (not sure what that's supposed to mean, except to scare kids off playing with matches... )

It looks very nice and the Danish camo pattern is pretty much spot-on as far as I can tell. My service predates the new webbing and body armour so I couldn't say if it's perfectly accurate, but it certainly looks OK.

The boots look just the way I remember them. Just seeing that image makes me moan for having to shine them again! I do seem to recall that they've got new boots now, though I don't think they look terribly different.

The old ones we used when I was in the service (around 1990) were trash. Heavy, stiff and maintenance-intensive. They definately weren't marching boots. OK as heavy work boots (for engineers, tankers and artillerymen) I suppose, but definately not appreciated by us footsoldiers. Private purchase of boots was strictly prohibited, of course.

Keep up the good work :)

You understood what I said then? Cool. I wasn't so sure my vocabulary or word order was correct, men så er den klaret

Thanks for you kind comments. As for the new webbing and stuff, don't forget this mod is intended to be set during the NATO intervention in Kosovo.

Some will notice a lack of flak vest on the RAFR skin. I haven't to date seen a pic of a RAFR soldier wearing a flak vest, atleast, not over the top of their jackets (maybe underneath?)

I think you misunderstood me. What I meant to say was that I left before the new webbing was introduced (we had WW2 Brit webbing  ) so I wouldn't know if your depiction is accurate or not (it's probably spot-on, I just don't know for sure), though at a glance it looks OK.

And you Danish is pretty good. When the mods aren't looking I'll teach you some really dirty words ;)

And you Danish is pretty good.

Tak.

When the mods aren't looking I'll teach you some really dirty words ;)

What, like the words I've learned from listening to a certain Anna David song (the Danish version that is). Mind you, those aren't really dirty, just downright obscene. She sang the same song in German too (and in English), but I already knew the words in those languages....

It's funny because my French colleagues at work insist on talking to each other in French (even though I'm not in France), so in return I bust a flow on them in German, Danish, Swedish or whatever. They don't understand what I say, I don't understand what they say (see I did say 'jeg som lege med ilden'. Treat people as they treat you, it works wonders.

WW2 British webbing? Cool. The WW2 Denison smocks are still one of my fave peices of military clothing. The Danish webbing now (well for the era when my mod is based) seems to the current British army webbing (in Danish M/84 of course)
