I have now made new character models for all three of the [GR] female specialists. You can see an in-game screenshot of them below:

You can also see my new animations in use in that screenshot. They are to be included in the Bonus Content section of the mod. All three of them need to be 'field stripped' yet, that's why they haven't got any mags in their weapons.

I'm sorry for the recent lack of progress/updates. I've come back from my snowboarding trip with a trapped nerve, or possibly something more severe, to the left side of the base of my neck - which is flaring up every few days at the moment.

Painkillers don't seem to be working. Even the three (or was it six?) pints of beer on Sunday night didn't give me any pain relief. The only thing that has so far give me any pain relief (although it doesn't take the pain away completely) is the deep heat gel-like stuff I was given by my [concerned] colleagues.

Last Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday have so far been the days when the pain has been at it's most, where it almost gets to a stage I where I can't even move my head or arm. I spent those days in constant pain. It's more or less alright every morning when I wake up, but mid-afternoon, the pain starts to come back. On the first few days after getting back home, I also had this kinda jabbing pain in more or less the same place. But that pain was wierd - when ever that pain came, it would make my whole body twitch. That's definitely not normal for a trapped nerve, which is why I'm sure it could be something else. Maybe I should take some time off work for it. Or maybe I should see my doctor afterall (I'm reluctant to do this because I know what it'll be - "go home and rest, there's nothing you can do for it but let it run it's course"). Driving is a mission in itself at the moment, especially when I can't turn my head to the right when it hurts so much.

  • 2 weeks later...

I spoke to CC about this the other day, it's only fair that I notify you guys too.

Since I got back from my recent excursion, I haven't felt to continue work on DANFOR. I've been back for nearly a month now and haven't felt like working on anything in the mod during that time. Truth be told, DANFOR is taking up too much time. Bear in mind that it's mainly just me working on the stuff now. I'm still waiting for some content from some other modders that said that they wanted to submit content for the mod (one has recently gone AWOL). I also still can't quite get my head head around a few small areas of texturing/exporting the models from 3DSM.

The mod is on average around 70% complete. The models just need texturing and exporting, skins need to be finalised and I'm about done - minus the missions (shame because there's a few new vehicles in the mod too, would be a shame to waste those) and the remaining weapons that I need to complete the arsenal. IMO, it would not be the correct course of action to release an incomplete mod.

The mod is not dead, cancelled, dropped or whatever, but I am for now postponing the development of the mod for the time. Development on my smaller GR projects, for the Free Stuff section will resume as normal. After DANFOR is out (if I ever get round to seeing it through in the final development phase) I'm jacking in GR modding for good. I should be releasing a few other GR mods in the coming weeks though and some of my work is to feature in an upcoming GR mod by another modder (see my recent activity in a certain thread in this same forum section....) DANFOR's future hangs in the balance. More than likely it will get finished, but when I don't know.

As I recently discussed this with CC - I will still be around and willing to assist GR modders if they need anything, anything at all. I'll be glad to help, even after my departure from the GR modding scene.

I have recently started modding another game, of which my mod is way more complete and comprehensive - I've got it that far in a matter of three months. The mod tools for the game in question are alot better and way easier to learn (everything I've learnt to do modding-wise in that game I've learned myself, and I've pulled of some pretty amazing stuff in that mod). And absolutely anything in the game can be modded. Which helps for unbalancing issues.... Moan about me unbalancing stuff, I don't care - real life is not balanced, therefore, neither is this mod I'm working on for the game in question.

We ride together. We die together. Ghost Recon for life.

Sad news but I know how you feel. All I can suggest is put DANFOR on the backburner and when you actually feel motivated to do a little more, that's the time to start again. I'm lucky in that UKSF is now almost wholly in the hands of Mig, Phlook, CC and a few others. Rather tham new missions, we're simply pulling a few existing missions and converting them to a slightly more British flavour.

Some of the stuff I planned to release in DANFOR is to be released in a few other upcoming mods (by other GR modders). One of them will feature what is my best work yet - there is a certain area of modding that I'm currently shining in more than ever before. Soon all will be revealed.

Sad news, still looking forward to get "own" mods in denmark

And you will get it. But when I don't know. A few people have emailed me directly about 'the news' regarding this mod aside from those of you posting here. Nice to know that when I speak people listen, even if it isn't great news.

All is not lost though. As I said before, some of stuff originally planned for release in DANFOR will be released in other upcoming mods by GR modders. Maybe the mod got to this stage because it grew too big. Taking out some of the stuff and releasing it separately, be it in one of my mods or some-one elses, should spark my motivation to start working on it again.

Unfortunately, GR1 modding scene seems to be dying, and fast.

Let's hope not eh? ;)

WD:

How much still needs to be done (and what's missing?)

How much is required from 3rd parties?

What did you mean when you said you had trouble exporting from 3dsMax?

Just trying to get a handle on what's required here

I admit I can't really put anything concrete into the mix just now (the list of mods I'm involved in is growing) but if I can help in some small way (advice, helping out with technical stuff etc I'll do what I can).

It'd be a shame to see this mod fall over at the last hurdle (and it must be tough knowing/ thinking you're on your own)

Cheers, Phlook (sorry, I mean, Tourrettes boy)

(PM Me if you want to keep anything here under wraps  )

To answer some of the above questions:

- I'm still waiting for a TRG-42 with bipod up, TRG-42 with bipod down, MG3 with bipod up, MG3 with bipod down, MG3/Elcan with bipod up, MG3/Elcan with bipod down, C7 CT with bipod down and C7 CT with bipod up from 3rd parties.

- All the weapons need texturing, helper points and exporting.

- The issue with exporting from 3DSM is that I can't get my skins to fit right when exporting the model (and for some reason, I can only see the skin on the model when I do a render, but I don't see the skin applied to the model in any of the viewport windows). I understand that I can export the models with a base skin, then do the actual skin as a .rsb file after the model is exported. There's somewhere in the region of over 50 character models to export.

- The female character model "Mia" has the following issue: her pony tail protudes into the neck protection of her flak vest and there doesn't look to be an easy way to fix it so that it's not protuding into the neck protection.

- The mission briefings which I've completed are currently declared obsolete as they have no missions to go with them.

I'm surprised, you didn't swear once in your above post Phlook. You must be back on your medication?

Also send me one of the texture problem Chrs Max file (+ textures)

@WD,

I hadn't noticed this thread before (still a GR.net newbie). I do hope your work gets released.

Given the age of the game, I really don't see much future for GR mods. Of course, if we'd gotten a proper GR sequel, things might look rather different.

PS: Let me know if you need any info on Danish forces, for this or any other project :)

I realise that this is going way off topic, but I have to disagree

The lack of any in built longevity in modern games pretty much mean that their modding capability never gets really explored before they are dropped by either by the publisher or the audience

It's only older games that were meant to last past the initial sales rush or were made with us modders in mind (unfortunately not the case recently)

The real threat to GR is from game code incompatibility with OS changes (but there are still a hard core of modders who have stuck at it) ;)

Don't get me wrong, I'm in absolute awe of GR modders. Not only because their skills are so far beyond my comprehension, but also their work discipline  And I'm sure GR mods will be made and played for quite a while yet.

But all good things come to an end. Eventually, the number of people playing [GR] will decline, and modders will eventually move on to new game engines that offer more possibilities.

I do agree that the "game of the month" state of affairs these days hardly inspire anyone to take on a major modding effort.

Hello krise madsen

GR1 has a Heart. 6 Years old now, and many to come. Not sure how many people will stay play it in years to come, as you say, they move on. But this game out-shines any game, in many peoples eyes. Many Real GR Co-Op Fan, will always be here.

This game, GR1, has allsorts of goodies to come. There will be many years of mods to come.

THEY may move on.

But so do others.

I do agree that the "game of the month" state of affairs these days hardly inspire anyone to take on a major modding effort.

You hit that nail on the head!

Tinker

It looks like things could be on the up on the character model front, but the weapon model front is still at a stand-still. I've had to let go of my beloved 'Mia' for the time though, but for the greater good of course. Hopefully things will be sorted on the character model front when she gets back.

I'm in absolute awe of GR modders

Tak!
