Team composition

Recommended Posts

Do people stick with a fairly constant team structure or do you mix and match based on mission parameters? Either way, do you have set structures that you operate with or is it totally free form?

I tend to keep the same team structure but to change equipment as needed (normally only demo)

So:

A. 1 rifleman w/ m16a3 + frags Or sr47sd + frags

B. 1 rifleman w/ m14 (aimpoint) + frags

1 rifleman w/ m4 + frags

1 demo w/ m4 + frags / m4 + demo / m4 + at4

C. 1 support w/ m240b* + frags

1 rifleman w/ m16a4 + m203

* I've modified the m240b .gun file to be motiontype 2 (IIRC) so he drops prone as opposed to trying to fire it at a crouch.

The main team are "B". The 2 M4s form the bulk of the firepower (ahem) but with an m14 in a sort of dedicated marksman role. The demo guy is there as this team is the one that tends to move to objectives etc. "A" scouts in front and provides another rifle for when "B" engages. "C" hangs back and sends suppressive fire in the general vicinity of the target (with a 240 "general" is about as good as it gets). I've found the only safe place for an AI with an M203 is far away from the rest of the team. Hence he sits with the 240 gunner and occasionally lobs grenades. He normally fires at walls and unoffending foliage but will occasionally drop a grenade onto a big clump of enemies and I figure that justifies his pay.

I find I can do every mission type effectively with this setup. On the quiet missions I'll replace the M4s with sopmods or mp5s but keep the Support team as is.

You'll notice that there's no snipers. I don't think they're really necessary in GR. I just find them pretty ineffective with the low range engagements and the arbitrary stabilisation time penalty associated with putting optics on a rifle.

Now, this contrasts with a friends setup which effectively turns the ghosts into a weapons section like so:

A. 1 rifleman w/ m4 + frags

1 demo w/ m4 + at4 / m4 + demo / m4 + frags

B. 1 support w/m249 + frags

1 rifleman w/m16 + m203

C. 1 sniper w/m24 + frags Or m82 + frags

1 sniper w/m16 + m203

"C" scouts up front and sets up shop. "B" follows and covers a different angle. "B" moves in and does the job. He tells me it's a very effective setup but I normally do badly if I try to mirror it.

Opinions?

Incidentally, does anyone have a decent unsuppressed SR47? Earl's suppressed one is wonderful but I like being noisy.

1. What mods are you using for your team combonation?

2. my team for regular GR+DS+IT

A.Rifleman M16/M203

Demoman M4+M136/Frags

B.Rifleman M4A1 socom+Sensor

Rifleman AK47/AK74+Frags

C.Sniper PSG-1/M24+M9SD

Support expert M249/M240G+Frags

This combo dont work for most but it works for me.

Alpha is main team, they take point, hold postion till others move up.

Beta/Bravo move into area, opens doors, covers 6 mostly.

Charlie covers the other teams from afar (god) the SAW gunner covers the snipers 6 and rips up those sneaky tangos that love to get the snipers.

I have B open doors while C aims from afar at the door so if there are others behind the door they wont be for long.

This combo works for almost every mission for me except the one where you gotta protect allied tank ( name escapes me at moment).

I know the one. It's Zebra Straw isn't it? It's certainly tricky but there are ways. I'd guess the best thing for you would be to send "B" towards where your friendly tank comes in. If you head towards where the enemy tank (that gets destroyed by the friendly tank) you'd be in a good position. "A" moves to the other side of the village (near the humvee). Put "C" a safe distance back covering "A" (they'll need it more). The tank'll come through, "B" joins it as it demolishes the village and clears up after it. Once you've shepherded these people to their destination you can get on and do *your* mission.

I use Standard Upgrade to give me the M240 and Sr47 (and the M16s and M4s). The M16a3 is just a modified gun file that replaces the three round burst with full auto (the sound file is already in GR). The M14 is from Nishi's mod (he calls it m14c).

If you like the Ak you should try the M70 from the Croation Army Mod. It's a lovely weapon and a great mod.

Earl and Black Sabbath / Streinger have really spoiled me. Now, if it isn't anatomically perfect, crisply textured and with correct hand positioning and holsterpoints I just don't go for it. Nishi's m14 doesn't have the holsterpoint but the only alternative (I think) is Navy Seals and IIRC it doesn't have the hand positions (some time since I checked though).

A)

Rifleman - SOMCOM+frags / M16A2+m203

Support - M-60+frags

B)

Demo - M4 + Demo charge/AT (depending of mission)

Rifleman - P90+frags

C)

Sniper - SL9SD+frags (I dont like those loud .50 rifles)

Some times i bring a Rifleman (SOCOM+frags) along, as an observer.

*Demo - MM1 AGL+Extra Ammo/AT (this one may change teams for each mission, or maybe not fight in some)

This composition can fight anywhere.

I use A team for covering open areas. B for demolition and CQB. and C for taking out specifc targets, off-course

When the MOD allows, i like everybody to carry SD weapons like M4s (Sopmod, SOCOM, all SD),

and my CQB team will carry P90, MP5 (SD, always), or shotguns.

I live by the code that if the enemy sees me, hes already dead.

recon configuration: alpha recon fireteam 2 silenced rifleman, bravo support fireman 2 rifleman 1 support, charlie long range obs sniper.

assault configuration: alpha forward assault 2 rifleman, bravo rear 2 rifleman 1 support, charlie sniper.

in urban settings, i will typically trade off the sniper for a rifleman.
