CR6 0
I'm surprised not too many people were wondering why they needed to install "DirectX drivers" with the Lockdown demo even when they have what should be the latest version of DX9c with Service Pack 2. Well, while installing 3DMark06, it mentions that there IS a new version of DX9c updated on Dec 2005 which you can download here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en This download provides the DirectX end-user redistributable that developers can include with their product. This update includes the DirectX for Managed Code Update from the DirectX SDK Update (December 2005). However, if all your games are running fine, there's no rush to install it until you have a game the prompts you to. Edit: New post and link below about the Feb 06 DX9c update ... CR6 0
Did mine back in Dec, but DX 10 is out there some where. ← DX10 won't likely ship until Windows Vista, and is not backwards compatible (although there will likely be emulation) with previous DX9 and below versions. So I'm doubting that we will get DX10 for WinXP ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX The future of DirectX Microsoft is currently working on a large update to DirectX. Originally called Windows Graphics Foundation, but later renamed to DirectX 10, it will appear as part of Windows Vista. Version 10 will represent a departure from the driver model of DirectX 9.0, with the addition of a scheduler and memory virtualization system. DirectX 10 will forego the current DirectX practice of using "capability bits" to indicate which features are active on the current hardware. Instead, DirectX 10 will define a minimum standard of hardware capabilities which must be supported for a display system to be "DirectX 10 compatible". According to Microsoft, DirectX 10 will be able to display graphics up to 8 times more quickly than DirectX 9.0c. However, DirectX 10 will not be backward compatible with current versions of DirectX, so computer games made for DirectX 10 will not function on any other model of DirectX. In addition, DirectX 10 will incorporate Microsoft Shader Model 4.0.

Specter 0
I always liked being able to get the redistributables. Then I don't have to do web installs and such. And since directx should be installed before drivers are, it's nice to have the files to do so right on your drive. Edited February 14, 2006 by Specter
