Still sharp but i can tell its going anyways just today as a matter of fact i went out looking for a new HDTV in 720p for my game room so i might have two very soon! I know it's not the latest and greatest technology but I was shocked at how good everything looks in 1080i. This thing blows as much hot air as my pc. People seem to have a hard time understanding that this thing is not a N64....must keep the heat out. This is an older pic also. Mine are fairly good, though big, they sound really nice and block out the sounds around me so I hear every little thing in the game. This is the reason why I posted this forum, so ppl who actually have the equipment(s) can post their opinions. I have a 55" Mitsubishi Diamond something and it does have a marking that it can do 1080i, but right now since I have only basic cable, no subscription nor receiver for the HD channels, its currently set to 4-something and 980-something for the likes of Discovery Channel and DVD movies viewing. We only trully appreciate the quality of the TV when we're watching something digital, i.e DVD. Even better at nighttime. I do need to paint my walls darker to help in viewing. The room is wired for 7.1 but I only have 5.1 settings right now. I have a 5 yr old Pioneer Elite receiver that has THX/DTS/DTS-ES/DTS-EX??? but it only sets in on certain movies. I hope to meet someone with a 360 so I can see for myself how it would look like. Please, don't hesitate to share your ideas and input, for I'm sure I'm not the only one benefitting. The older games that were not originally made for HD don't look that much better but the new games like Call of Duty 2 and Perfect Dark look amazing. When you get a 360 make sure you get the premium version and on the Cables there is a switch for HD..make sure you move it over and select HD. Change it in the 360's settings also. The lag is so bad most the time that it drives me crazy. You can tell the multiplayer side was an after thought for the devs on COD2. OPSIXDELTA Posted February 3, 2006 Share Posted February 3, 2006 ← 720..1080 I don't really see much difference myself. ← here is the differnce between 720p and 1080i 720p is 720 progressive scan, meaning that the television draws the image on screen in a complete manner. i.e it draws the scene in one pass. 1080i or 1080 interlaced draws the scene by drawing all the even number rows of pixels then drawing all the odd number rows of pixels. So basically you get one half of the picture , then the television draws the other half. This causes a "flicker of the picture" HOWEVER this flicker happens so fast that your eye doesnt really register this effect. Your eye especially doesnt register it when it is a 1080 interlaced image. the reason there isnt much of a difference between the two visually though, is that while 1080i has a higher resolution than 720p, it is displaying only half the image at any given moment because it is an interlaced image. while a 720p image is a progressive scanned image, showing the whole picture at any moment. so while it is a lower resolution technically, it is also technically playing back picture at 60 fps, which produces a smoother picture. what all this amounts to is that 1080i and 720p are pretty much the same viewing experience. HOWEVER 1080P or 1080 progressive, (which no 360 game takes advantage of) is the current highest resolution level currently supported by hdtv's, but it is of note that 1080p is not supported heavliy by hdtv's yet, but will in the next ....mmm maybe 2 years. hope that clears it up a bit for anyone who didnt already know. As LCD sometimes have low refresh rates, which will cause the stuttering, or bluring, or sometimes called ghosting effect seen in games. If you are looking to buy an LCD hdtv, please make sure you research the recommended refresh rate for typical game playing. you can probably find this on some hdtv board. . Edit: Had wrong quote :Opps: ← It really does depend on what you’re doing. A slow moving game like GRAW is for the most part is fine for 1080i. In fact I have played racing games and noticed very little blur and that’s about as fast as it gets. And really 1080i is a cleaner picture than 720p when you are talking about a still picture or slow moving screen. However, most games are not slow moving. But like I said I have played Call of Duty 2 and Project Gothic Racing and others and never seen it get real blurry at all so I don’t know. Really I never saw COD2 get any at all. Not only that but TVs are either 720p or 1080i native. You can’t really just switch it to 720p if your tv is native 1080i. You can tell the 360 to play in 720p but it’s really just being converted to 1080i anyway if that’s what your tv displays. So to switch to 720p would mean to get a new tv. And it's not worth that considering I have seen both 720p and 1080i running on their native resolutions and the difference is very small most the time. I know its small, but its big enough and i just plain know better that im messing out when in 1080i. Like someone else here said, must people with a HDTV that has 720p knows and mostly perfer 720p when it comes to games. 1080i is fine if you don't have 720p it's much better than 480p all day. Yet Again if your happy thats all that matters right? Its a small diffrence thats true but for the untrained eye you wont even know the diffrence anyways becuase its so small and like you said, you have to get a new TV!
