Ranking system

Stats and more stats.

Head shots.

Hit percetages.

Kill to death ratio/Effieciency.

Accuracy percentage.

Win to loss ratio.

All these statistics should be factored into your rank.

Some other interesting stats but not neceary for rank are things such as.

Longest streak of kills before dying.

Longest streak of death before getting a kill.

Favorite weapon.

Gameplay style.

Single fire accuracy.

Full auto accuracy.

One more thing that would be nice would be a round standings list at the end of each session. Have a round MVP and then put the rest in order on a list from best to worst showing in a little table to the right each persons statistics for that round.

I see your point and I definately agree that your rank should be influenced by how many times you are on a winning team. If you win a lot that should reflect in your rank. If you are on a lot of losing teams that should reflect your rank as well. I think this system would promote more teams and better competition due to the fact that people will want to learn how to play with certain players and stick with them.

However, from my experience on xbox live people like to play as individuals as well. People like to hop into rooms and just start playing regardless of who is on there team.

If you are really good (which I consider my self) you dont necesarily need to work with your teammate, but you should definately work off of them. What I mean is you should have a good awareness of your team and the situation. This is achieved by following your "uncoperating" team mates. When they get shot at you are there for the kill (bait). When he is exposed, try and cover his exposed angle. If you can use teamwork without even the team knowing it is a sign of an ultimate team player. Also, look at your map, know where your teammates are and find a good position for your self to work off of them and in essence, help your team. When nothing is happening and my teammates are in good position, I'll just sit with my map on and wait for gun fire or one of them to die to go and hunt down the target. That way, I'm moving when the enemy is looking at or for something other than me. I believe that playing by your self within a team is definately an art form. Once you learn the art you will be doing well and doing well while helping your team. However, once you get a team mate on the same page as you it really will get ugly. I could write a book on some of the little traps and tricks we get people with.

I understand your point about being a team player but I still believe that there should be an MVP. When it comes to the end of the game someone is going to have the best stats, teamwork or not. Its the facts I would love to see who really can put up the numbers that count (Kill/death ratio!). I loved to see my name lit up as MVP. I love it because it shows the results of what I proudly and very systematically do. I use my team, I play off of what my teammates are doing. Not all people have the cognitive ability to play strategically (especially on xbox live). Not all are compatible with eachother. I use them as my bait. It may not sound very "team oriented" but I believe I'm helping them much more than they are helping me and they dont even realize what I'm doing.

I much rather play as a team with people I know to strategically attack the enemy. I believe they should extend this stat tracking to the clans as well (kill/death ratio especially). The better your clan does the better your rank is. But I also believe that playing GR with a bunch of players you dont know and doing well consistenly is an artform and I would like to see some rewards for that as well.

Jammo, you're welcome to play w/ me any time you like. We think exactly a like, as far as how we try to play off our teammates. I understands using teamwork in a pub server with a bunch of rambos IS an art form. I’m pretty good too.

However...

(And this comes from a person who's run various Socom & GR leagues and clans for a long time.)

I still think MVP's, and ranking systems in general are worthless and bad for the gaming community, overall.

That’s just my opinion though... I love the stats, and always get a rush from being MVP, but sometimes I think the communities would be healthier and more accessible to noobs if so many people weren’t so concerned w/ mvps or what rank is displayed next to their name.

Ranking systems make people irritable and mean. imo. So that's really the main reason I don't like them.

Sounds like a plan. I look forward to playing with you and exchanging some ideas (I've got some tricks up my sleeve).

Also, I enjoy people that dont confuse a "difference in opinion" with their own ignorant narrow minded thinking. On that note, I have to reiterate that stats are accumulated at the end of each round and exist wheather they are displayed or not. Which brings me to the point that someone is going to have the best stats at the end of each round, displayed or not. I believe these stats should be displayed to all players in the room at the end of each round. They already do but its very limited to say the least. I find my self comparing my kills/death ratio to everyone eles. I would just like to see it more in depth and more accesible at the end. Maybe not call it an MVP. Maybe just put the players in order according to their stats.

I believe this gives the players an objective. Something to work for past just trying to get that one kill that of the guy they saw and decided to chase from the opposite end of the map. I believe it gives players more of a sense of a stratigic way of playing beyond just running out in to the open like rambo. In all honesty, I dont believe that a game such as GR should be cattered in any way, shape or form for "noobs". I believe that GR is a game with more depth than most and is catered for more of the cognitive players. I believe that stats in GR almost a necessity for the game at this point. I would really love to see exactly how I compare to the other top players in different categories, rank and a detailed description (stats) of how others as well as I have achieved our rank.

I do agree that the rank system can sometimes give people a big head and a big mouth. Hell, it does to me sometimes. But thats why I love it. Because I'm usually on the upper end. So, in that perspective, I understand your point but its not so much of a concern for me as it is for you. Not to say that I'm superior to you. Just saying I like the competition stats create and the drive it creates to beat that other team running their mouth.

Something you might agree with. Winning should the number one goal, therefore a winning statistic should be the most infulential stat. Maybe MVPs should only be rewarded to a member of the winning team.

At this point I dont know where this debate will go. I'm just rambling my different thoughts at this point.

Anyways, I would like to play with you. Once I explained my tactics to my teammate he began to really catch on to what I try to do and we becom much more efficiennt. I would like to try and work with you to see what we can come up with.

Jammo, I’m about ready to head home (work shift is finally over) and while I'd like to comment, in-depth, on your last reply, I don’t really have time atm.

but... I will say one thing before I roll out.

My comment about catering to noobs was more about the community being accessible, as opposed to the game being dumbed down for them. There're are a lot of jerks on line and people like that drive away new players who just don’t want to hear a bunch of people whining about how they got jipped on some irrelevant stat - a lot players that would otherwise be a welcome addition to the community are turned off by the bickering. And I’m of the opinion that ranking systems contribute to that type of angsty bickering.

I've found myself nodding in agreement at various statements you guys are making but in the end agree 100% with recklessmind:

I'm sure this is a reason some people are reluctant to move from SP to MP, despite loving the game. Also, clans/teams w/rankings tend not to be willing to take on the task of getting a new player up to speed, so maybe new players can only play w/other noobs (disappointing/frustruating) or risk a bad experience w/ those run n' gun... er... jerks you experts "play off." :D

At this point I've said my peace and I have a different viewpoint. I love to see stats and see exactly what I am good at and what I need to work on. For me, stats is the defining equation that tells where I stand vs others in the community. I am a very competitive person in every aspect of life. I need them. On my 360 my motto is "play to win". Stats show me exactly where I stand and what I need to improve on. The game would be much more addictive for me if I had stats to work for rather than just trying to win each individual game and foregetting about everything I'v done in the past to gain the knowledge and the skill it takes to win.

I would love a record of everything I take pride in when playing GR.

Let me know when you would like to link up online. My name online is Jammo 03.

I know I asked this before but I didnt get a response. Is there any information on how the ranking system is going to work. Also, is there going to be more stats above and beyond what GR2 provides? If so, what?

from the dev chat:

<Alfie> Can you tell us more about how the ranking system in multiplayer will affect gameplay? Will each rank give the player more accuracy in shooting, for instance, and other skills? Will there be RPG like skills that each player can improve?

[+rsePrince] The ranking system is the more for a quick way for you to tell how experienced players are. You won't recieve a performance boost by being a General as opposed to being a Private. However, if you're a higher rank than someone else, you SHOULD be better than them, because ranking up isn't the easiest thing to do.

EDIT: Actually, I just reread that quote, and now I don’t think it very relevant to your question. Prince is talking more about rank affecting gameplay (who would even think that’s a good idea?) and not so much about the ranking system itself. So I guess its still up in the air at this point.

You know whats funny? I remember a while back, on the RSE boards they posted a topic asking for fan input for future iterations of GR. It was a very long thread. I probably had one of the lengthier post in the topic. But I remember very vividly talking about leting us dress our character so that we can recognize each other with out having to see a name above each others heads. Also, I remember, describing in detail how they should let us pick a class of character and then pick our gun. And depending on what class you pick would affect how you operate your gun.

Its almost as if they took my post and incorporated it into GRAW. I dont know for sure but what they did is almost spot on with my post. Just thought I would throw that out there. Also, I did discuss how I believe that the ranking system should be off of kill/death ratio and win/loss ratio. Who knows, maybe my post did have some influence over GRAW. If so, I just hope they do base the ranking system off of the above mentioned ratios.

Its kind of cool to see what you recomended to them over a year ago incorporated into the latest game with so many similiarties with your ideas.
