Setting up GR LAN multiplayer on Mac

Recommended Posts

I am running GR on Mac Mini and IMac G4.

I have connected them with an ethernet cable.

Please can anyone tell me how I set up multiplayer so my kids can beat me on the comfort of my own machine!

thanks

Are you using a router or just a crossover cable between the 2 computers? I am not familiar with how Mac's use TCP/IP protocols or even if there is a software firewall that needs disabling, but start with making sure that the firewall will allow GR to pass between the machines. Start up the game on one machine and start a game. The other game should see it in the server list.

You need the same workgroup name, different IP's if using static ip addressing versus DHCP. If using a firewall, ports 2346-2347 must be enabled to pass through to each machine.

Both machines must be running the same version of the game, and the same mods, if any, and those versions must be the same also.

Using a direct connection between both computers, regardless of being a PC or MAC, requires a crossover networking cable, not a standard one.
