THF 0
Hello, I am having problems hosting a direct IP game. The client computer is connecting to my game server through the internet. I have a DSL connection with a Linksys wireless router. I know for a fact that the router is the problem since I connect the DSL directly to my PC and it works fine. What I have done: 1. I have setup my router so that it will accept connections through the ports 2346 through to 2349 for both protocols. I indicate my internal IP address for the PC hosting the game. 2. I have selected the option: Accept remote connections in the multiplayer tab. 3. I have disabled my zonelabs firewall completely. 4. My windows firewall is off. NOTES: - I have windows xp - I have GR gold - The message the client gets is " Downloading data from server", it stays on that screen and i am eventually booted. This happens both on the dial-up client and on my pc attempting to be a client (DSL) I can disconnect my router everytime I want to play, and that's what I have been doing until now, but it's becoming a pain and my other computers can't access the internet while my wireless is offline. Any help would be appreciated. THF
Specter 0
You need to note your EXTERNAL IP, not your internal IP, as that is invisible to the outside world. Anyone trying to join your game, needs your internet IP, not the IP your router assigns your PC. The router will get the request to the right place. But if you don't tell the joiners what public IP to look for, they won't see the game. Also, the ports that need to be opened are 2343-2346 for both protocols. That should get you going. Specter 0
Correction on the port numbers: they should be 2346-2347.
THF 0
Correction on the port numbers: they should be 2346-2347. ← Hey Specter, Thanks for the reply.... I am using the external IP...sorry I didn't mention that before...! I have done some minor changes, but I have yet to try it out... I have read somewhere (maybe the linksys support site, can't remember now) that if you wish to open ports to let a PC on a network be joined, you need to set that PC up with a static IP, rather than DHCP ... I have setup the router to forward the ports 2346-2349 for both protocols to the static IP that I have set the PC to. Hope this works, I'll let you know. thanks, THF
Tankbuster 0
It would probably be easier to use the DMZ option in the router. I have on mine and it works fine. Be aware that wireless and online gaming, especially hosting, make unhappy bedfellows. My wireless is now turned off with cabling run around the house.
