firefly2442 0
I've got two computers here at my desk and two sets of speakers. One nice digital Boston 4.1 set that I use with my Audigy 2 Platinum. The other a Koss 2 speaker pair that just plugs into motherboard onboard audio. The cheap Koss speakers work fine but the Boston speakers and producing loads of "popping" noises. Could this be interference from other cables? They are all fairly jumbled together underneath the desk. I've looked at all the settings and I can't figure it out. Even with my headphones there is popping. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. If not EAX capable, make sure that option is turned off. Could be cables I suppose, but I highly doubt it.
firefly2442 0
Well, I tried turning hardware acceleration down and even off, this had no effect. I'm going to try reinstalling the drivers and software.
firefly2442 0
Nope, didn't do anything. I'm gonna try the other set of speakers and see what happens.
firefly2442 0
Well, the other speakers do the same thing so it must be either the drivers or something is wrong with the sound card.
firefly2442 0
I booted up into Linux and the speakers sound fine.... sigh...
Specter 0
I booted up into Linux and the speakers sound fine.... sigh... ← Sounds like a typical WinBLOWS driver problem.
firefly2442 0
Well, apparently the latest drivers from Creative are no good on my system because of the popping. However, after installing the old ones via the included CD it's fine..... If it ain't broke, don't fix it? Strange.
firefly2442 0
Well, the issue came back. I was so frustrated I started looking around for alternative drivers and came upon this: http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/ I uninstalled Creative drivers and installed these. No problems as of yet. Although they don't have all the bells and whistles that Creative does, they sound the same to me. I just want to be able to hear my games and not hear this terrible hissing pop in the background. Sheesh. This makes me think twice about getting a Creative Soundcard....
firefly2442 0
It's back. It will work for a little bit, when I install the driver and start the computer up for the first time it will work but then when I launch some apps and start using the computer it won't work anymore. I tried running Driver Cleaner on the computer and it took out a bunch of Creative stuff, however, this didn't help. I'm considering reformatting my computer and trying this again. Ugh, this is unbelievable.
Specter 0
Check device manager and see if Winblows is changing the driver...IE reverting it back to a previous driver, or during updates, using the Microsoft version of the driver. Do you get this issue when you run Linux on the box? I'll bet not.
firefly2442 0
When I get a chance I think I'm gonna try opening up the box and reseating the cards and connections.
firefly2442 0
Well, I tried reseating the sound card, unplugged all connectors and plugged em back in again. Still popping. Now my headphones aren't working... I wonder if this could be my soundcard is on it's last legs. I've never heard of a sound card dying before. Weird. When I go back for Spring break I'll grab an extra sound card and see if it works.
[TCS]BlackMamba 0
I think it could be your soundcard thats gone hence the output is buggered wotever you seem to do. Though it wouldn't explain why it works for a bit then goes off. If all else fails a full system reload could help. At least then you know it isn't some random bit of junk that windows left lieing around thats messing it about.
firefly2442 0
Yeah, *sigh* another system restore. Oh well, I might give it a shot next weekend or so. I wonder if I could have blown out my speakers? I'll have to try them out on another computer, see if they are OK...
firefly2442 0
Well, I can't try the speakers out on my other system because the onboard audio on the motherboard only supports simple analog speakers. edit: It's not the speakers because I just tried another set and I got static. Gonna boot up into Linux and see if it's still there... Edited January 22, 2006 by firefly2442
firefly2442 0
Yeah, under Linux the sound is fine. Argh. Well, it must be a driver issue. Either it's a driver issue or Linux is somehow getting ride of or removing the popping sounds. edit: Nevermind. It does it very faintly under Linux too. Not as much as in Windows though. Looks like I'll be in the market for a new sound card. Time to check for a warranty..... Edited January 22, 2006 by firefly2442
firefly2442 0
So the warranty is only 12 months. Darn. It's been WELL past 12 months. Are there any other sound card manufacturers out there besides Creative? They seem to be the most popular but I'm not sure if I want to buy another one of their cards... Dannik 43
Are there any other sound card manufacturers out there besides Creative?← You betcha. Hard to find a store with them in stock, but they are very highly regarded.
firefly2442 0
Well, I'm going to try installing the drivers ONE LAST TIME. Then it's probably going to be off to newegg to do some searching. Thanks for the tip about turtlebeach, I'll look into them.
firefly2442 0
No dice. Removed it completely and reinstalled. Still a problem and my front headphone jack doesn't work still. Off to newegg!
firefly2442 0
Well, I'm still trying to decide what I want to do about this soundcard. Is it possible to just buy a new sound card and keep my old front slot drive with the headphone connectors and so on?
