Specter 0
I was just Dl'ing and trying to run the Ms Anti-Spyware Beta that so many swear by, and again, we run into a product that has been "versioned" to death. Anyway, I installed it, tried to run it, and keep getting an "Critical Error 101. Shutdown and restart the application. If it fails, uninstall/re-install it." Only it doesn't run and turns up that stupid error everytime. Any ideas?
RatoN 0
That is what I could find Directions - So you are receiving the classic 101 error too? It's an odd error that is caused by several things... usually it because of a permission issue. An update or a reinstallation will usually work. Here's how to Update: 1. Logged in with admin privileges, open your Control Panel 2. Select Add/Remove Programs 3. Select Microsoft AntiSpyware 4. Click Change 5. The Maintenance Wizard will open. Select Next 6. Click Update Microsoft AntiSpyware 7. Select Install and the product will install 8. Click Finish If that doesn't work, you can uninstall it completely from the control panel and reinstall: The newsgroups have also been suggesting making sure your DCOM service is started: 1. Click Start 2. Click Run 3. In the textbox enter C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunch 4. Click OK this one i like... Since Microsoft just *now* started to care (it's 2005, and spyware has been around for 8 or 10 years), I would run other anti-spyware programs with a lot more experience. (Lavasoft AdAware, and Spybot Search & Destroy). Also avoid the 'pay me to protect your system' programs; many will install as much spyware as they eliminate. Others are simply pieces of ###### that find 10% of the spyware out there, or are afraid of lawsuits from "legitimate" companies like Gator. Microsoft's security responsiveness has been about as abysmal as possible. A spybotsearch&destroy+spywareblaster HEEM

Specter 0
I just wanted to see if it was any good. I got ahold of 2 particularly nasty spywares, that AdAware and Spybot couldn't dispose of. But Spyware Doctor nailed it. I never did get the MS thing to work. I found out that the one at the DL sight is expired, but still up for DL, but if you turn on Auto Update, it will, at the appointed time, update it to the current, un-expired one. What a frickin' joke. Just like all things Microsoft: Pure CRAP ! !
