Something I hope we don't get from GRAW.

I was playing GR2 single player a while back and in the middle of some action one of my soldiers yells "NO FEAR!!!!!". ........

lol...I really laughed my butt off. I personally don't care so much for GR2's single player, it was the multiplayer I enjoyed so much. Still I hope that I will like GRAW's single player but if I hear "NO FEAR!!!!!" ....well I just don't know how I'll handle that.

Anyone else ever notice this in GR2?

LOL. Yeah, I thought the comm was always buzzing with too much ego pumping, chest pounding, bravado. I didn't like all of the "nice shot sir", "this one is do or die", etc...

I preferred the relative silence of [GR] over that, or better yet a very active comm like Operation Flashpoint that spits out usefull info like, 11 o'clock Unknown soldier at 300 meters, 1 o'clock enemy soldier at 100 meters, etc....

Exactly! Why did they always have to be talking. It gets really annoying. Anyway who knows it might be something that can be turned off if it is in GRAW.

I also like how you can communicate with your soldiers in OFP. I often split up my squad into two or three groups to flank the enemy, but sometimes I might be almost 1000 meters from my men as some of the areas you have to make incursions into are very large. You can call for status and they will call out something like Echo Alpha 5 8, and you can locate their position on the map.

You can also tell them to pick up a new weapon and change their entire loadout, ammo and everything during a mission!

I would much rather see the comm used for things like this.

I might have to rent Operation Flashpoint. I played the PC version a long time ago but don't remember to much about it.

Sounds good though...

At the start of some GR1 missions, your squadmates have some oneliners like that. I thought they added a bit to the game. I am not sure what oneliners were used in GR@, but at least with GR1 they seemed relevent (to cold).

Those were good, but they didn't blurt them out in the middle of combat, so I didn't mind them. Actually in the Ivory Horn mission (I think that is what it is called) one guy says "mmmm seafood" when they are on the dock, and someone quickly chimes in with "keep it quiet".

Still love [GR], despite all of the problems it has, I still love it.

I liked the one liners in [GR], or they way they verbally acknowledged orders or sometimes reported things like "pinned down", or "they're close". They sometimes say "No Fear" in [GR] when you change them to move at all costs (double arrows, can't remember exactly what it's called), and it sounds good then, but I think I'd be turning off speech if they start shouting crap out all the time.

Yes, the talking is very annoying, especially that Jennifer Burke. Ugh... if you could only choose your characters...

[GR] is so much better than anything that came after.

Shame, shame....

In SOCOM 3, they have a good mix of humorous one liners and useful information. I don't mind your men throwing out jokes every once and while, or having observations of their own (Whoa, this place is a dump, etc). Too much of that stuff though, and it just seems like you're in a bad comedy club. The "Nice shot, sir" crap gets annoying too. Especially when it was not a nice shot, but you just wasted an entire magazine on the guy.

I really hope GRAW allows you to communicate with your squad. In OFP The chatter changes depending on what you equip your men with.

If a guy has binocs, he will almost always call out with positive IDs. For example "10 o'clock enemy T72 at 400 meters", "2 o'clock enemy BMP at 500 meters", "9 o'clock enemy officer at 300 meters".

If he does not have binocs then you might hear "5 o'clock unknown soldier at 300 meters".

I always equip as many of my squad as I can with binocs unless they have a rifle with a scope. I hope there are elements like this in GRAW.

My feelings on the GR2 one liners:

You know when your sat at home and your kids are all busy doing there own thingy happily plodding along, at least they are right up until someone phones u and wants a chat, at that point the kids suddenly decide they want your attention, not because anythings wrong or they even want/ need you but simply because your doing something else and you should be there ready to pay them 100% attention regardless of whether they want it or not. so they stand there nagging and tugging at your cloths for quite some time while you patiently try to ignore it, Of course when this happens no matter how calm you try to be you eventually lose your rag and end up telling someone to shut up and then attempt to remember what you were actually talking about before they interrupted but for the life of you cant remember.

Thats how i feel about the one liners, irritating children after your attention and only succeeding in irritating the hell out of you

p.s no im not a bad mother lol but anyone with kids will know exactly what i mean with the above

Ah, Klean makes another appearance. Have you bought your three Xbox 360s yet? :D

Another thing I hope we don't see in GRAW is sole ownership of explosives. I can't tell you how many times in OFP where the enemy drilled my aquad with a grenade launcher, or an RPG round. Also, if you equip one of your squad with an M16 with an M203, they don't hesitate to use it.

Don't take this the wrong way. OFP isn't an all explosives fragfest, but I hated how in GR you would equip your squad with a perfectly good grenade launcher, and unless you assumed control they wouldn't use it.

Only one? Hmmm, you also claim you and your husband are ordinary folk. :shifty:

I just know there is a room in that castle or chatteau that has several 360s hooked up. :o

BTW, have you run [GR]/GRIT on the 360? Do the graphics look any better? How about he gameplay? Does it still lag with explosives?

I'm waiting for GRAW to come out first. Not to mention the fact that you can't find anymore 360s here in the States.

jchung,

The 360 does not "improve" the graphics. It simply increases the resolution if you have a HDTV and it does use FSAA (anti aliasing). So you may notice a little improvement if your gaming on a HDTV or a Monitor. On a SDTV you most likely will not notice any difference. As for performance I can't tell you about [GR] and GRIT since I traded them in before GR2 came out

At least I have a PC copy :)

I have played GR2SS and I actually think it runs a little slower than on xbox but then again it didn't even run at 30 fps all the time on xbox. As for gameplay the controller works perfectly with all the xbox titles.

Thanks for the "tech lesson". I didn't quite phrase that properly.

I was really hoping to find out what [GR] and GRIT looked like, as I have already heard that Halo2 looked absolutely incredible.

I have already heard that SS looks real nice to, although you are the first to say that it seems to run slower. Do you have the first Halo? How does that look? What about the Splinter Cell series?

There is a difference if you have HDTV. I have a SDTV so it looks the same except there is less aliasing. As for the slowdown I said about GR2SS I think its just the game because I played it on xbox then 360 and the gameplay is the same. It is playable I played a few online matches and I was not at a disadvantage at all. The splinter cell games play well except for Chaos theory that has some problems with the single player and co-op mode. Not a big fan of halo, I have Halo 1 around somewhere but I traded in H2 it was just not my kind of game.

In fact, "No fear" was often heard over the comms in OG GR when you ordered an advance at all costs order.

While I agree that GR2/SS (Xbox) comms were way too cheesy and gratuitous, OFP's comms, particularly since they were very very bland and repetitive, while informative, also got a bit annoying.

No doubt, a balance is needed.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. The use of the comm was by far the best in OFP. Just my opinion.

The funny conversations occur while you are sitting in the back of a truck, or in the helo on the way to the insertion.

Also, the "no fear" in [GR] was a response to an order to move in at all costs. It was not a crotch grabbing , finger flipping, in your face call for bravado. I don't think you can really compare the two.
