swartsz 7
Ever since i reinstalled Xp Home a couple of months ago i am having this problem which is starting to annoy me. Let me explain; whenever i am using IE with multiple windows open, like more than 5, it slows down big time. So much it can take something like 10 seconds just to close one of the IE windows. Most annoying is that i do not have a clue why this is happening and what i can about it, except for switching to Firefox completely. any ideas?
T_1 0
Get the IE plug in for FireFox and switch completely
Specter 0
Get the IE plug in for FireFox and switch completely ← Ditto. IE is a big resource hog, and is tied to the Winblows kernel. The more windows open, the bigger the load. Firefox and Opera however, are not tied to Windows at all, and therefore use alot less resources.

I routinely have 10+ IE windows open (running at the SAME time as Firefox) and don't have probs. First thing as always is to scan for viruses and spyware. Also check what other apps are running in the background using msconfig.

This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. Although switching to FF will speed up your browsing, it would be in effect running away from an issue on a clean install that may display itself in other areas of use. So personally I would percevere and find the route of this problem rather than just switching browser. I've googled but can't find anything that would cause this issue though, so I'm at a bit of a loss. You said it was a clean install, have you installed anything at all that could be interfering? How about RAM usage, is that what's slowing it down?
swartsz 7
yes, it was a clean install of everything, XP and all my programs, or in short a Format C: and that is one of the strange things about this problem, it is only affecting IE, everything else runs fine. I have 1Gb of RAM with the swap file set at 2x on a seperate partition.
Specter 0
Have you gotten all of your updates and service packs for both XP and IE?

Cpl Ledanek 247
Same here as FireFox user. Super fast almost no pop ups. If you still get pop up, you can get this AdBlock plug-in at their support site. though with one of my pc, I see "user posted image" with a line going thru it. doesn't do it for my other 2 pc running on FireFox.
