(Thunak): Hello and welcome to today’s GRAW chat!

(Thunak): Thanks for joining us. Our guests this evening are:

(Thunak): Christian ALLEN – Lead Multiplayer Designer

(Thunak): I believe it's Serellan

(Serellan): hey

(Thunak): Christian ALLEN – Lead Multiplayer Designer

(Thunak): Spearman

(Thunak): Gilles MATOUBA – Game Designer

(Thunak): oops :)

(Thunak): And Adrian Lacey, random punter hiding somewhere

(Thunak): Let’s begin, then. The session will be moderated: only the GRAW team and I may post.

(Thunak): Let’s begin, then. The session will be moderated: only the GRAW team and I may post.

(Thunak): This is how we’ll proceed: you may send your questions only to me and I will relay them. Please do not send them directly to the GRAW team, they will only answer to mine. To send me a question double-click on my nick (Thunak) on the right hand column and a new window will open in which we may chat.

(Thunak): We will post a full transcript of the chat on www.ghostrecon.com and on the boards ASAP.

(Thunak): Here we go!

(Thunak): (shogun): How will the game support clans on the 360?

(Serellan): Due to the early stage of Xbox Live on 360, we are not currently planning to support clans initially at launch.

(Thunak): (Crunker99): Hi, I was wondering will the X360 version of this game feature a co-op online play mode?

(Serellan): *

(Serellan): Yes, we are fully supporting Co-op play, both with the customizable game mode system, and a all new co-op campaign

(Serellan): once you finish the SP campaign, you have a whole new game to start*

(Thunak): (kleaneasy): Theres a lot of confusion over the in game view for GRAW on xbox, is there a weapon view? and is 1st person still in the game

(Spearman): On xbox it is a entirely FPS view

(Spearman): For X360 we chose to stick with OTS like in SS and GR2.

(Spearman): For the X360 version, we also feature a Precise Aiming view, like a close-up Over the Shoulder view

(Spearman): *

(Thunak): (shogun): What is the max numbers of players in a room on Xbox Live(360)?

(Serellan): 16*

(Thunak): (Crunker99-Continuum): will you be able to switch weapons with weapons from dead enemies and allies?

(Spearman): Yes of course

(Thunak): (CriticalHit9999): what are your impressions working with the 360 ?

(Spearman): all weapons visible during the game WILL be playable*

(Serellan): for MP work, it is great. We can have detailed maps, customizable characters, and thousands of game mode combinations...

(Serellan): *

(Spearman): We were able to push the power of the 360 using our Multi Core technology, which means we can push the 3 processors to the max i terms of animation, post fx, HDR and so on...*

(Thunak): (Smis): How many players can appear on-screen at once?

(Spearman): A lot of them

(Serellan): in MP, 16 ;)

(Serellan): *

(Thunak): (santtu): tell me please, is it possible to go into buildings?

(Spearman): You don't open doors etc, but using climb etc you can go into warehouses and stuff

(Spearman): The mai core of the actio will be street to street and outdoors

(Spearman): *

(Thunak): (ReapeR): Tactics v Run & Gun style….It is always stated that PC gamers want tactics and we console drones only crave the Run & Gun approach…..what will this ‘next gen’ gaming experience give us on the 360?

(Spearman): For 360 we wanted to give people the option of moving yur team, drones and support troops via the 3D tactical map

(Serellan): I don't think that is necissarily the case. Tactics are just as important for console players, it is just the experience is taylored for the interface. When you are sitting in front of your PC, you have a different connection with the game then when you are on your couch. A lot of the differences are based on controller differences, etc

(Spearman): *

(Serellan): *

(Thunak): (shogun): What is the total number of weapons in the game for online play?

(Serellan): just a sec, gotta count ;)

(Spearman): 25 for single not counting vehicles

(Spearman): *

(Serellan): right around 35 in MP

(Serellan): *

(Serellan): on ship, for MP we added fan favorite weapons from GR1 and GR2

(Serellan): *

(Thunak): (Smis): How many polygons on a character?

(Spearman): 15000 polys plus normal mapping

(Spearman): *

(Thunak): (benny): what happened to the GR look in general, doesn't look quite the same as the ones we saw at the 360 presentation?

(Spearman): At the time we weren't even running off the final kits!

(Spearman): Since then the post fx, filters and the engine itself has evolved

(Spearman): Not to mention the HDR, animations and so on*

(Thunak): (NateTXB): If there's one clear area that Microsoft has concentrated on improving when comparing development for the 360 to the Xbox what would it be and why?

(Serellan): the greatest thing for us is the new live interface and rich presesnce. Now players have a consistant profile, friends list, etc. This takes the work off of the plates of the developers, and ensures the players have a consistant experience across all Live games.*

(Thunak): (Osok): Have they limited the ability to look over objects then with the OTS view?

(Spearman): The OTS view has been tweaked to impove the experience, we also added an advanced cover and peak mode

(Spearman): *

(Serellan): also, in MP, servers can restrict OTS view with a host of options*

(Thunak): (Vth_F_Smith|SCMod): Which Engine are you using for the Game?

(Spearman): We are using a Ubisoft proprietary engine;

(Spearman): It has been developed specificaly to use the multiprcessing power of nextgen consoles*

(Thunak): (santtu): can player moderate ghosts equipments?

(Spearman): You can still select with which teammate you're going to play

(Spearman): But they will have pre defined jobs: Rifleman, grenadier, Marksman, etc.

(Spearman): They will stick to their skill and emain only as your team mate, you can't play as them

(Serellan): in MP, you can customize your own character and safe default weapon loadouts*

(Serellan): "save" *

(Thunak): (Osok): Have they intentionally done anything from a design standpoint to try and keep GRAW from becoming run and gun gameplay online?

(Serellan): we focused a lot on weapon balance, to make sure that people that try to hightail it around can easily catch a bullet ;)

(Spearman): Cross Com, allows you to be more tactical i the sense that you see what your team sees in real time as well as what your UAV drones are seeing

(Serellan): *

(Spearman): *

(Thunak): (KS-Grizzli[ModoFR]): Is a map editor provided ??

(Serellan): no, instead we focused on a customizable game mode system to allow you to build your own play experience;

(Spearman): :-)

(Serellan): with over a thousand combinations of options, and easy to use presets, you can make solo, team, and co-op game modes

(Serellan): *

(Thunak): (santtu): is the story same as in PC version?

(Spearman): All versions have the same story, we wanted to keep Mexico as it is a unique environment

(Serellan): in addition, the 360 has co-op campaign that starts out after the SP story ends, taking you to Nicuargua against a whole new group of enemies*

(Spearman): *

(Thunak): (ReapeR): It has yet to be revealed if we can turn off the Red and Green character outlines and massive blue objective icon…….is this part of the widely publicized custom features?

(Spearman): Yes you will be able to turn them off

(Spearman): But intel is an important part o the tactical gameplay so you will have a lot less info about the enemy

(Serellan): in addition for MP, there are server options regarding them*

(Spearman): When you are actually playing it is also a lot less intrusive!

(Spearman): *

(Thunak): (brainiac): To what degree can we alter the character appearances in multiplayer?

(Serellan): there is quite a bit of customization, with a whole range of real military gear that you can use

(Serellan): in addition, you can choose from four different classes that affect your weapon handling, and serve as your character identity

(Serellan): *

(Thunak): (Brimstone): How realistic are weapon ballistics and how bullets penetrate objects?

(Serellan): we do a lot of work on ballistics to ensure a realistic handling experience taking into account range, body armor, etc.

(Serellan): in MP we remove bodies, otherwise you would have hundereds of bodies lying around and bogging down your system

(Spearman): :-)

(Serellan): *

(Spearman): *

(Thunak): (Stpehane_VR): what does the crosscom do exactly?

(Spearman): This is your order interface between your support teammates, apaches, tanks and drones

(Spearman): It also gives you intel from no playable charaters

(Spearman): Generals will contact you, you can see newsflashes

(Serellan): in MP, it is a team commo device, allowing you to set different kinds of waypoints to facilitate team communication through the voice com

(Serellan): *

(Spearman): the cool thing is that you will see everything your team or support units are seing in real time

(Spearman): *

(Thunak): (Osok): Does the crosscom come into play with multiplayer?

(Serellan): see above

(Serellan): *

(Thunak): (Vth_F_Smith|SCMod): Which Feature in the Game you're most proud of? ;)

(Spearman): CROSS-COM

(Spearman): the gun rides are cool as well

(Serellan): in MP, it has to be the customizable game mode system. It gives you a host of options, while keeping it simple for the players and clients. Plus, the way the map layout works allows you to learn maps, regardless of the game mode

(Spearman): *

(Serellan): oh, and character identity

(Serellan): oh, and international ranking system...

(Serellan): too many too list

(Serellan): and the ghraphics

(Serellan): ;)

(Serellan): *

(Thunak): (ReapeR): There has been much chatter surrounding the size and color of the new look aiming reticule…….will this feature be customizable?

(Spearman): No not customisable but it is still being polished

(Spearman): We are trying to give evey weapon it's own aiming reticule

(Spearman): *

(Thunak): (benny): next gen platforms, aren't all about graphics, how did u guys improved other areas like AI, physics...

(Spearman): Physics ae definitely impoved especially veicles i terms of what falls off explodes etc

(Spearman): Fo AI better animations, they search cover much better, they don't stand i the open

(Spearman): The detail in the animations also gives them a lot more life

(Spearman): *

(Thunak): A question from a secret admirer from Montpellier: what colour underwear does Christian usually wear?

(Spearman): Multicam

Would be nice to change the color i always hated that yellow color! Maybe they need to add that 1000 options to 1001 options.

Anyways good read can't wait to play the game.

I hope the Tactical Approach is really there; I miss the original GR feel; those first games kept me up for hours planing how to approach my next goal. I was glad GR:SS gave us back the freedom to randomly accomplish our goals within a map. Im hoping GRAW bring us even closer to the original GR feel.

*Wow, I just realized this is my first post here. Hi everyone, the newbie here... well, not really... I enjoy reading this forum and finally decided to join forces.

Everything is sounding "so far, so good", as long as it is an expected improvement over all the other GR's on Xbox1, then it should be a winner.

Our clan Old School is having high hopes for this 360 title. Call of Duty 2 was such a major dissappointment for Xbox LIVE. I can't imagine Ubisoft doing anything as crappy as Infinity Ward did with the Multiplayer on COD2. I would never have beleived such a crappy bit of LIVE offerings for COD2 could have made it out the door. COD2 on 360's LIVE functionalilty is far below Xbox1 LIVE standards.

I know all of my friends and teammates are eagerly awaiting GRAW for 360.

I hope it makes Feb2006, but as long as it is out before May I think most will be happy.

Thanks for posting the transcript by the way.

Agreed, i havnt even tried to take it online since discovering it was only 9 player online. Im going to give the single player a go tomorrow (not had chance yet) but ill be honest i was looking forward to a title to keep me going until GRAW only to find its only 8 player online, and friends tell me you cannot start your own room so setting up a game with friends only is apparently impossible. Again ive not tried it yet so this may not be entirely accurate but its what im being told and doesnt sound good at all

So, no FPV on 360? What is this, broken promise?

Serellan just confirmed over at the ubi forums FPV IS in GRAW xbox 360

EDIT*

To clarify: GRAW 360 has OTS and FPV.

No FPWV, but you can do a "short zoom" with your left trigger that brings the weapon closer to you, almost like a FPWV (similar to SC zoom).

Server can restrict views.

wonder why they can't implement clan support with so much time before release. Rainbow six on the Xbox had the best clan support. Developers should use this as a model. Oh well, hopefully they will have a lobby system still cause that is a crucial part of setting up clan matches and that should be in every single online MP game made.

Hopefully they improve the reticule and make it smaller and less obtrusive. I always thought the GR reticule was damn near perfect. The way it slowly close down to simulate steadying your aim, the precision of only being accurate when it was closed made the multiplayer feel really intense too. You and an oponent seeing one another across the map and waiting til that reticule closed while lining up the shot. Those were the days. Hopefully they bring it back like that so there is less spraying and praying kills going on. Thanks for the info though and taking the time to answer questions. Much appreciated.

wow. awesome, same lame answers to the same lame questions, except one regarding the blue diamonds, etc. who asks how many polys are in a character, that is bs, and just a way to keep really intriguing questions from being answered. And the answers to me seemed very vague on certain things, like they are dancing around it, when ever someone asks something they fall on this customization stuff, but still wont say WHAT THE HELL IS CUSTOMIZABLE. this was just a lame pr stunt, too bad, i was really hoping the Q&A's were gonna be worth a dam.

Well, Serellan clearly said the MP gametypes are customizeable and has been saying that since E3.

What does that mean? You want to mix up how a LMS game plays? Customize it. Wanna play a variation of SAR? Customize it. The gamers get to make the gametypes.

yeah....AGAIN, got that. the gametypes are customizable, ....got it. to be honest with you there are plenty of customizable game options in summit strike as well, what i am curious about is the customization options as far as hud, weapon loadout, character avatar, etc. all the stuff that is in pretty much every game of this type except for this one, and one of the few things that when ever it is asked, UBI, says"there are plenty of customization options for game modes. but that is not what is being asked, this was asked by some other blog sites, and other gaming sites back at e3 and x05 and no answer was give there either. guess i will have to wait till the demo.

There are no words to describe how mad i am at ubisoft and red storm. They've taken a great chance to improve the GR franchise and wasted it. Churning out the same old crap.16 players online, what happemed to the 32 players online that was bounded about. No clan support. Still with the OTS.No map editor. It seems ubisoft dont want the support of the online clan community. It feels like a slap in the face. Everything they could have done to ruin a great game they've managed to do. I was so looking forward to this game. My clan are going pro for GRAW, but i doubt if i'll be joining them now. I feel i'll have to find another game to invest my time and money into because at the moment GRAW looks like it will turn out a mess. Im sure all the run and gun kiddies will love it though, so they'll make loads of money out of it. I really thought ubisoft cared for the online community, but this interview shows that they don't give a toss.

Some good things from the Dev chat...

Man was I happy to hear Serellan say that. I get so sick of people thinking all console gamers are a bunch of 8 year old Halo run & gunners. I think it's about time people start realizing that there is a huge number of older consoler gamers out there...especially on the 360.

We play Halos for run & gun and we play GR for the opposite reason.

(Thunak): (santtu): tell me please, is it possible to go into buildings?

(Spearman): You don't open doors etc, but using climb etc you can go into warehouses and stuff

Another good thing to hear and something that was missing from GR2.

Nice...lets put an end to the run and gunners. :o= Though he didn't really answer the question...I hope it was a round about way of saying "yes for the most part".

we'll see when it drops. Alot of those same things were said about GR2, and online it's all strafe back and forth real fast and spray. I'm curious how many people responsible for Ghost Recon's MP were involved in GR2's multiplayer development and are still around for GRAW.

16 online is just fine for me as long as it doesn't lag, However I think clan support should be must with any new game being developed for xbox live. When rainbow six was doing it years ago, there is no excuse for it not being implemented on the next level for all games. I don't think you would find 1 person on xbox live that would disagree with the fact that every new game being releaseed should include clan support, a lobby system, a way to make custom games, and a way to easily boot trouble makers from the server. Those things should be mandatory, and enforced by Microsoft before release if you ask me. I

Hey guys....and gals!

This is my first post on this forum, so let's go easy on the new kid.

I was part of the online chat yesterday with the dev team and thought that they gave a reasonable account of themselves and answered most of the questions thrown at them...........

I think we are all fans of the GR series and have been spoilt to some extent with great game play and fantastic online battles, GR1, Island Thunder, GR2, Summit Strike or any of the PC versions along with multiple downloads to keep us fresh and interested in the franchise! Not many games out there today can or have offered me personally as a gamer these experiences and for that I will continue to support the GR team.

GRAW may not be the game to end all games, it may not have clan support or feature a much desired map editor, however I think it may just entertain and excite us enough for us to log hundreds of gaming hours glued to our HDTV's listening to bullets fly overhead in glorious 5:1 surround sound.

.............for me personally, I would have loved 32 players online and the ability to be creative with the aid of a map editor. For now, I'll settle for total game immersion with stunning graphics, top quality sound effects and simply.............the next step for GR fans!

I agree.........!!!!!!!

When I asked the question regarding the run & gun style, I was hoping the response was to confirm a more tactical game and less RAMBO!

Let's hope that the multi player maps also promote a more 'team' oriented method of attack.........all in all, good feedback from the RS team.
