SOPMOD (Special Operations Particular Modification) is an accessory kit for the M-4A1/A2 carbine, usually referred to as the M-4A1 SOPMOD.

SOCOM (Special Operations Command), also called USSOCOM, this is a sort of branch of the military that many of the more elite spec ops forces have been chopped to (Delta, SEAL-6, 160th SAR …) its connection to any weapon does not have to do with any type of name, just that SOCOM forces use it (like the Mk. 23).

Viper, Shadow2k, isn´t it so that the SOPMOD is based around an entirely different stock hand guard, namely the KAC-rail/adapter-stock hand guard?

Is this the dreaded 1% difference that differs the M4A1 from the so called SOPMOD?

The thought just hit me...

(and yes, I know that it takes about 3 sec´s to change it)

A minigun in a pure weapons mod (I think that is what you are talking about) would be awesome I've only saw two other miniguns one was in Australian Defence Force 3 (great mod but mainly skins) and DAGRM4.8 (and we all know about that one)

Yes, that's basicly right, the SOPMOD just has a KAC FIRMS system on the hand guard, although the M-4A1 SOPMOD and M-4A2 are basicly the same thing, only the M-4A2 is more standardized; the SOPMOD is custom built for SF troops, so thier are some differances within them. (oh, FIRMS is Flexible Interface Rail Mounting System - very cool).

And since my last post may not have been very clear, thier is no such thing (to the best of my knowledge) as an M-4 SOCOM. It is just a name people made for M-4s used by SOCOM forces.

Does the USSOCOM use it then?

It´s big, it´s bulky and after all, it´s just a .45 (I´m will get flamed for this!).

Sure, it´s one of the most accurate pieces out there, but does it really exist situations where "even a SMG is unmanageble" since it seem´s to big for undercover-works.

I'm not sure to tell you the truth. I have heard alot of people don't like the size, but then again it is a offensive handgun. I have seen most Army Special Forces use standard M9 handguns, in Afghan and such. Delta, from rumors, seems to like customized 1911's (Wilson Combat, etc).

I've seen pics of miniguns and in my opinion the minigun in ADF looks more realistic.

I'd like to see any grunt holding a minigun like in DAGRM. Its huge.

check this:

The Mk.23 is called "SOCOM" becouse it is used by SOCOM forces (they wanted a .45 pistol to replace the 1911A1 that had a higher mag-cap as well as being more accurate and accepting a IRSP and supressor standard) SOCOM is also called USSOCOM, they are the same thing, just was a "US" added to the front. So SOCOM forces can use it (delta, SEAL-6, ect...) they do not always use it, but it is a nice gun - exelent stoppong power. On a random note I have herd that SEALs do not use the M-9/92FS becouse of slide problems, they use SIG P-226s, or Mk.23s or whatever they want to really.

Sig's are a old favorite of SEALs. However, on the 92fs, I have actually heard they contracted Beretta to make some specialized versions for themselfs.

PS. It is no longer ST6, the unit is Naval Special Warfare Development Group - DEVGRU.
