MarkVanDamme 0
I have bought a AMP CPU on ebay It is "AMD ATHLON XP 2400+" Can anyone tell me what MHz rating it has? Thanks Is there a website that correlated such info?
Dan 0
google would be your friend in this case, but im thinking somewhere in the vicinity of 2.0ghz
MarkVanDamme 0
My BIOS says 1.50 GHz, which I was quite disapointed to see. I too expected 2000 MHz. Ta Mark
Dan 0
hmmmm, here, get yourself CPU-Z: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php Itll tell you all the vitals
WhiteKnight77 1
It is supposed to be 2.0. Did you set the multiplier properly?
MarkVanDamme 0
Now set to x15, and I have 2000 GHz. Perhaps I can push it that little bit more... The FSB is at 133, I will try 166MHz
WhiteKnight77 1
I practiacally ran mine as a 2600 for the whole 2 years I had it in my rig.
MarkVanDamme 0
What CPU temp did you reach? Mines running at around 50 C
WhiteKnight77 1
I think the max I ever reached was 48 one time. Sounds like you need a new case or more fans. Get them wires routed out of the airflow.
MarkVanDamme 0
You're obviously in the know - what temp do you consider dangerously high? My fan is beefy enough I reckon, it spins up at 4000 rpm, I've not seen any bigger ones that that! (I'm not going freon-cooled )
WhiteKnight77 1
With the Vantec Aeroflow that I had, I don't think temps got much above 44. Dangerous is over 70 or more. Your motherboard should have a setting to turn the PC off it the chip reaches a certain temperature to keep from damaging it.
MarkVanDamme 0
Ooooo http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...Y_BIN_Stores_IT Thanks for your help WK. And I know you guys work in Fahrenheit not Celcius like we Brits
MarkVanDamme 0
Damn! I upped it to 166MHz and I think I blew it up :S Back on the old CPU now. Are CPU's really so fragile? The strange thing is, my m/b is rated up to 200 MHz. So what's going on?
WhiteKnight77 1
I was using C too. I don't remember right off at what FSB setting I had my chip at. Try this though. Take the battery out and let the BIOS reset. Insert the battery and see if everything boots up properly, if so, restart and go back into the BIOS and set everything back to proper settings. I think what I did was up the FSB and reduce the multiplier to get the fatser speeds, but do not quote me on that.
