rcrph 0
I've just run into a variant of the xp/lan problem on my xp home edition. Everything has been working just fine up to now, but when I try to play a co-op game, I just get a "downloading data from server" message. I checked my firewall and GR is listed in the exceptions, but no go. Then I turned off the firewall on all my boxes. Still no go. The lan connections are working because I can move files between my boxes. Any suggestions plz ???
Cpl Ledanek 247
just my experience from this post. WinXPPRO PC and Win98SE: I removed the SP2 on my WinXPPRO PC and my LAN started working and so are other network issues I had with my printers that had Win98 drivers. Then months later, just gave up and bought another WinXPPRO disc to install on my previous Win98SE PC. Now both have SP2. No more LAN prob. The 2 PCs communicate/ found each other on the first restart. There's a SP2 "Remove the damn thing already" thread somewhere here. Hope my 2 cents help
rcrph 0
Thanks for your advice. The funny thing was I was running xp sp2 for a while and then my co-op GR just stopped. Everything else including transferring files between boxes works just fine. Expletive deleted xp. ..rcrph

GreyHaired 0
If you have a router, be aware that the router can change the internal IP addresses. Check the IP address of the host PC, start the multiplayer ->create game. Then start the game on the other PC and if it cannot find the host, try to click the "Internet" tab and type the internal IP address of the host PC, then "Add" and see if the host PC shows up on the screen. WhiteKnight77 1
Make sure that all the PCs with Win XP have had their built in firewalls disabled or set to allow GR access to the net or LAN. Yes, even the original XP has a built in firewall that causes havoc with gaming.
rcrph 0
This has been too wierd. Yesterday, I re-installed SP2 and undid the restore point to which I went back when all this started. Now, all the boxes can join a co-op game again. Many, many, many thx to all who've provided suggestions. Life is good again.
