firefly2442 0
I need to gather information on the pros and cons of WiFi and WiMax. Both the costs associated with implementing them and technical details like range and so on. My hometown is trying to decide if it should invest in providing municipal internet access. Since the area is extremely hilly, we would probably need multiple towers to provide solid access to everyone. I need to do more research but does anyone have any experience implementing wireless networks or who can speak on the benefits of one over the other? Thanks in advance. Zeko 33
Well me and two of my buddies have WiFi link where i live (one is near and one is 3 kilometers away and speeds r constantly at max for all) and it works very good for us. WiFi is good but limited in range, security and speed. With WiMax u can have a 70Mb/s on a 50 kilometer range not to mention that u dont need towers for antennas. Costs? No idea cuz here u cant get WiMax at the moment. .We in Europe have different frequency ranges for 802.xx protocols like u guys in States and the problems is that phone providers r not so happy with WiMax like we r lol cuz they need to pay heavy $$$ for standards like G3 or UMTS that runs on similar frequencies like WiMax. WiMax is the feature so i would look into that. Sorry i have no more information but main reasons r speed, security, range and overall cost. And that is what it counts in wireless world.
