el nino foxhound
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=8224726366 VBS1 including all addons except artillery module. Thought it would be nice to inform the members of GR.net of this offer. As you can see it has a fixed price, so it will only be sold if it reaches at least this price (only the seller knows that price). Right now it stands at 31 pounds, with fixed price not reached. If you want to have more info about the official prices visit http://www.virtualbattlespace.com Ohh, and dont worry, I am not the one selling it................. el nino foxhound
Its no longer allowed to offer a second hand copy of VBS1 on the official forums. So posting it on other forums is one way, but as you know the VBS community isnt the largest around. Putting it up on Ebay is another way to be able to attract some buyers to your offer. Some people need to sell it for specific reasons (sometimes financially) so I understand them. I would never do it myself.............but I wont ever sell my VBS BTW, there are now 2 more offers with all addons. First offer Second offer I hope again someone will be able to get a good deal. And if you got it............see you on the server
WP33
It's with mixed feelings you see something like that, but, really, ultimately, because CT and BIA both decided to go into the public market, VBS1 is going to be treated purely just like any other video game by some. Unfortunate, yes, but ask yourself as part of the relatively small group of VBS1 users, would you rather see it on eBay where the seller may have a little bit of control in who finally gets it or one day walking into a used-game seller like EB or GameStop and seeing it on a shelf...? (Thinks of 13 year old "1337 g4m3rz" running amok in VBS1 servers and shudders) Hopefully Sniper Andy, and whomever else is selling will exercise some care in who ends up with it. warhawk
@Foxhound No longer being able to post that your copy of VBS1 is for sale is news to me. By that I didn't know about that until you said it and I checked it for myself. That does hinder one's ability to sell VBS and sure there is no more of a guarentee that the person buying it, whether on Ebay or the official forums, is n't someone that you might not want to have VBS. In other words by selling online you don't know who you are really selling to. Keep in mind I could care less really if some 13 year old 1337 g4m3r gets it. It's been my experience those that act in that manner often find themselves on the outside looking in at most servers I've been to. What bothers me is the possibilty of this software making it's way to say those people who the ADF train to fight. For one example. Up to this point I think BIA and even (and I have to really fight not choking on my words here) CTCorp, have done a great job of ensuring that doesn't happen. I feeltoo that SniperAndy wouldn't intentionally do so himself. But at somepoint you know the genie is going to get out of the bag. Who knows though by then VBS2 will be out making it all academic. Stout Hearts |RE|Warhawk ← Good points. Fortunately, VBS1 at present doesn't have a lot of truly "delicate" information in regards to training methods or real-world locations. Hell, any joker can pick up OFP and get the same experience, or at least 90% of it. Forthcoming materials may need to be more closely scrutinized, however. It's going to be a sticky issue as training sims like this continue to be developed, and companies like CTC and BIA will have to really question the wisdom of allowing civilians of any stripe to acquire them. en4rcment
Now he's selling another copy: hxxp://cgi.ebay.com/VBS1-Virtual-Battlespace-Systems-Virtual-Battlefield_W0QQitemZ8233257655QQcategoryZ11051QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (copy and paste in browser...replace xx in hxxp with T's...http. For some reason the link will not work in the forums.) How many copies does he own? Edited November 17, 2005 by en4rcment
el nino foxhound
How many copies does he own? ← This is not sniper Andy, in fact this guy is from the other side of the world, Australia. Kaizan is selling his VBS due to financial reasons. And like I said, it is no longer allowed to offer your VBS on the official forums (public area nor member area). What would you do in need of money? Eat your disk or put it on Ebay? Again, I wont ever sell my VBS like this, but I can understand the people who do. Check this topic. You might need to login. OK thanks. Price is very NEG at this time. Wish i did not have to sell is just some personal reasons the cash will come in handy and i have no time for it lately...its currently collecting dust. en4rcment
I understand money issues... However. There is another VBS1 unit being sold on e-bay from SniperAndy from Munich Germany. Current bid is 100 GBP with 1 day and 2 hours left to go. That's the same e-bay ID that sold the last VBS1 copy that started this thread. WP33
Like I said earlier, it's with mixed emotions that I view situations like these, but, at the end of the day, it is the guy's property, and there's nothing in VBS1's EULA (I believe- I may be wrong) that one isn't allowed to sell it. Why are we getting worked up over a private transfer of personally owned software? As long as the seller is somewhat responsible in how he handles it, I'm personally cool with it. Honestly, what are all of you going to do once you're either tired of VBS1 or move onto another sim/game? Are you going to bury it in the backyard or snap the CDs in half so no one else can get it, or hold onto it forever? As I pointed out above, there's nothing much earth shattering in VBS1, real-world operationally speaking, in comparison to any other "video game" out there that would require such a cloak of secrecy or jealous lordship. My initial concern, which Warhawk skillfully laid to ease, was of Johnny "1337" Boy, fresh off a thousand rounds of Super Fast Twitch Ultra Unrealistic Mega Respawn Shooter 3000 coming in and stuffing up a good game in multiplayer by being an assclown. Thinking about the prohibitive price VBS1 goes for in comparison to those types of games and the demographic that can afford such games, I'm really not that worried about it anymore. Yes, the other concern is that a "bad guy" gets his hands on VBS1, but, really, since CTC and BIA were selling it retail to the general public anyway, what's the concern with a private owner selling his? 90% of what's in VBS1 can be had in OFP at a fraction of the cost, and OFP has been out for years. And the remaining 10% is features that enhance gameplay, not national security issues. We aren't ###### ourselves over that. I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm just wondering why so many are getting exorcised over it.
en4rcment
My point was that one user is selling multiple copies of VBS1... Just wanted to point that out.
