Ubisoft To Release Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter in February 2006

London, UK– OCTOBER 7, 2005 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, is pleased to announce that it has decided to devote additional time to perfect the next installment in its award-winning squad-based military shooter, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™. The game will launch worldwide for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in February 2006. The additional time devoted to the development of this title will allow Ubisoft to offer gamers the best episode ever of the award-winning Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon franchise and will enable the game’s development teams to optimize the application of Xbox 360™ technology. The delay of the release date will not impact Ubisoft’s revenue forecasts for the fiscal year.

At the X05 event in Amsterdam earlier this week, Ubisoft astounded attendees with playable single- and multi-player demonstrations of the thrilling new title. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™ was extremely well received by event participants, and Ubisoft expects the game to quickly become a blockbuster title.

“In Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™, players will be able to truly immerse themselves as soldiers of the future,” said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing at Ubisoft North America. “This game will continue the tradition of setting the bar for intense multiplayer action and cutting-edge technology. X05 attendees experienced the stunning results of the work Ubisoft’s award-winning studios have done in perfecting innovative multiplayer content and taking advantage of next-generation capabilities.”

About Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™:

The face of war has changed. Enemy lines blur and there is no longer a clear opponent. New enemies and new threats require a new type of warfare - a new type of soldier. Enter the Ghosts. In 2013, the U.S. Army will implement the Integrated Warfighter System (IWS) evolving what we know as the modern soldier. IWS combines advanced weapon systems, satellite communication devices and enhanced survivability into one fully integrated combat system. The IWS program has been developed to meet these new threats head on. Now, it can be tested on the battlefield. Following an insurgence in the heart of Mexico City, the U.S. Army’s most elite Special Forces team is deployed to the center of the conflict to regain control of the city. Greatly outnumbered but fully equipped with the IWS, this elite team is the first and last line of defense on the battlefield. They are the “quiet” professionals. They are the Ghosts.

I dont think I'd be "pleased" to announce that its devoting additional time to it, plus it only mentions the xbox360 so is it just the xbox360 version thats taking longer to get how they want and does this affect the pc versions release?

Yeh the wording is a little strange, the word "pleased" sticks out like a sore thumb.

The press release says that GRAW will still launch on the 360, so it would appear the PC version will also be delayed, until sometime after February.

also february is a significant delay as well i mean. what.....3 months, so at least 2 and a half months of extra development. do you think this has to do with reactions of the past week, ? guess so but to be fair they have been pumping GR games out pretty quickly maybe this extra time is a great thing for all the platforms

That is not my understanding of it, or is it denial on my part?

Seems quite clear to me.

Its all a bag of crusty turds.

It is very confusing as it does not actualy say the word "PC" in any of that. Is it assumed we should ummm, assume that its same for PC?

I read that and it doesnt say anything to me to hint for PC ... If this was a car you had ordered and you had 2 versions of it and yours wasnt mentioned that it was a delay in production .. would you assume yours was still on its way?

AAH, cleaneasy posted and I didnt refresh in time .. that anwers that then.

If its for its benefit, then good I wlecome a delay.

well i think we should make a decent intelligent thread with requests and or changes to what we have seen. maybe this delay means they are hears some fans and are retooling some stuff, they may be keeping an eye on the forums more. I for one think the consolse version can be a bit more like summit strike than say GR1. however outlines on soilders and other of the complaints we all know are due to be addressed.

I take no pleasure in saying i told you so.

I said it many times but many of you let your hope get in the way of your sense of probability.

To be honest i dont mind the delay. I mean, a company releases a game when it's done, i just sucks that we have to wait longer than we expected.

Now . . . what i do mind is that we expected a release date that was never gonna happen. I am more and more convinced with every occurance of this kind of thing that unattainable release dates are blatently put out when the companies know full well that it aint gonna happen.

I guess the thinking is that it will concentrate the media coverage. Magazines and web sites are less likely to give coverage to games that are way way off but the closer the expected date gets the more they start to look at the product which translates as free advertising. Then just before the release date we get the 'need more time to work on the game' statements.

There is just something totally 'practiced' about the way it all goes for it to have 'just been the way it worked out'.

I don't think i'm being cynical here. I really think that this has developed to be an industry SOP.

If anyone has the dates can you tell us how long the wait has been since we heard GR2 was scrapped for the PC (starting not from the scrap declaration but from the initial release date) to the projected release date of GRAW PC (my guess is June 2006)??? I think the space is long enough that they might as well have givven us GR2 and SS for thepc and been at work on GRAW. Hell we'd have all bought GR2 and been ready for GRAW in 2006.
