No need worry about GRAW for PC.

Why we don’t need to worry about G.R.A.W. for PC.

In light of some posts in reply to the information coming out about G.R.A.W. 360.

Please read.

Fact sheet.

Development;

More than 100 people are involved with the PC version

As this game is being produced, it is being worked on 24 hours a day, by Grin with other teams helping with direction etc.

As Grin finishes one part it is passed on for any idea, direction, changes that might be done. This system of work using the latest Technology gives Grin a very fast turnaround of work.

If you look at the other games this Developer has created the turnaround times are phenomenal.

So what we would call a standard say 10 hour day becomes a standard 24 hour day, between Grin, and any feedback system, so any small changes can be implemented very quickly.

IE information passed between Europe and the USA.

So Grin might be working on something uptill 10pm or later, and it can be passed on to R.S.E. and be back the following morning.

This is the main reason this game has been produced in such a short time, and obviously the engine being used is Grin`s own, so no learning curve.

They simply work very fast.

We are using our propriety engine, Diesel, that is currently at 6.0.

Grin. We started full production in November of 2004. Before that we did production design and initial technology improvements for about 6 months.

Its being made for the PC gamer:

Yes, GRAW features stealth and tactics. There will be no AI spawn hell [my words, WK].

The AI is tailor made to the game. The AI we created for GRAW is built from scratch and it is a very dynamic AI.

It will respond to the environment, and actions by the enemy. They will actively move from cover to cover when advancing to an objective and, with waypoints, will advance to the place in the stealthiest way possible.

We are concentrating on the tactical approach along with the ability to collect information [think UAV and other sources] and have AI challenging enough to create a better feel to the game. This time around you will also have far better control of the team and trust them to do their job better than any other game in the genre ever.

We leave the free player choose his manner of completing the objectives and of playing in the manner which suit him more.

We want to reward the players who develop effective tactics, without handicapping those which prefer the action. So certain elements and objectives were created in order to be played in a certain manner, our objective was however to make it possible to the players to achieve the missions in the manner which seems to them more amusing.

We are looking at it as a way to keep out cheaters.

Due to the way the game is made we will not have replays.

Remember, with the use of physics in game, we will not be able to. We would have to save ungodly amounts of data to recreate a replay, even if it is not recorded as a completely rendered scene.

Statement:

New project GRIN is currently working with Ubisoft to develop the PC version for the upcoming installment of one of the publisher’s major brands.

We at GRIN are excited and truly happy to be trusted with the development of this game and to bring the legacy forward on the PC. The name of the brand is a no brainer - but we leave it at that for the moment, going covert and stealthy just as it should be.

We want the fans to know that we are fans ourselves and are working hard to bring the classic feeling into the new product.

Too many staments are on the side of the PC gamer to be ignored.

The 2 versions are totally different, game play wise. And in some part looks wisetoo

I agree with R.S.E. you need 2 different versions for different players.

I don’t see a problem with run and gun type game in GR as long as youngsters enjoy it.

We all play a game in our own way, its called freedom of choice. Some games can only be played one way. At least now we have a choice.

In spite of what some people think GR2 and SS are doing just fine in the ratings and selling well.

So some one is buying it.

Different games for different people.

Why no PC Information

In a word XBOX 360.

As we already know the PR machine is well oiled and keeps to a time frame.

We might even have to waite until the dust has settled a bit on the 360 version, before we get ours. No probs.

I know we are going to get a great game from Grin/UBI.

UBI, Grin do what ever it takes to get the job done for the PC hard core fans.

The 360 might be aimed at a different player, why is it such a huge problem.

If I was 16 years old and had to do an Alpha mission or NY mission I would probably throw the whole game in the bin.

UBI needs to cater for all players as best it can.

I have no worries about the Pc version, WHY In a word Grin.

We will get the game we want, from a publishers point of view I probably would not have bothered.

It's funny everyone seems to be asking for more info but as soon as we get some they some members spit there dummy out & start flamming.

hmmm I wonder why information isnt free flowing

Yeah I'm happy with the direction they've taken as well - except for the first person weapon - but other than that they seem to be making a great game.

This is the main reason this game has been produced in such a short time, and obviously the engine being used is Grin`s own, so no learning curve.

Anyone know more about this engine?

I'm not worried its only a game after all, but since my order was due to arrive today or tomorow, according to Amazon, and yet as we know there is still no word as to when it will be ready i'm just tired of Ubi's incompetence...

most games do quite well when they first come out, the real test is if they will still be popular in 4-5 years as gr1 has been. Also gr2 is console only so one might argue that the people who are buying it may prefer a different style of game play from what manny of us gr1 pc gamers enjoy. In regards to your topic about worrying about GRAW im not worried at all only time and maby a demo will tell if i am going to buy it but im not worried because if it is not what i am looking for there will always be other games out that may be more my style of playing (plus we still have gr1 pc to fall back on) if GRAW happens to be the kind of game i want and i buy it then good for me and good for Grin/RSE/UBI. in the end us gamers really have nothing to loose or worry about.

IMO, it got really popular to bash anything GR/UBI since the GR2 was cancelled, even before that point when it was made obvious that they were heading to a dumbed down version of what they originally created.

With graw, I believe UBI/Grin made a complete 180, giving TONS of info about the PC version, doing ALOT to try to ensure they have a good product for the PC crowd. I dont think any game ever produced dished out as much info as Grin has. I'll say this much, I am really optomistic about this game being somthing I will truly enjoy, and completely confident that it'll at least kick the butt off of all the crappy FPS games we have to chose from.

First of all a thumbs up for the involvement of UBI in the community and their regular info about what's to come. A much more positive attitude and it's certainly appreciated.

From what I've seen, heard and read: Surely GR:AW looks like it's gonna set a new and higher standard for fps games.

I've put money on the counter, installed, started and removed games like "Brothers in Arms", "Hidden and Dangerous", "Operation Flashpoint" and two or three more. Some of them ended in the trash can, others I gave away.

Far Cry: Nice graphics, good action but when I saw "my man" swimming across a river with that huge gun in his right hand I thought: "Is this a cartoon or what?"

It's not a question of the cost of GR:AW, what I miss until date is the supported, convincing statement:"If you like(d) GR1 you need to have GR:AW".

If I buy GR:AW for PC I want to be convinced that what I get is at least as good as GR1.

From what I've seen, heard and read, I'm not convinced.

"Some of them ended in the trash can"

That is odd behaviour...

or was it a joke?     or just rich?

No joke, nor rich. I've managed to put 50 bucks aside since GR1 was released.

If you don't have any expectations, you got nothing to lose.

If you do have expectations, it's not about the cost of the game, it's about "Yeah!!" or a disappointment. That's what I tried to tell.

To Colin: LOL bro - convince me.

Although I've been skeptical about anything good ever being released with the GR name applied to it, GRIN did make one statement that made me have hope for the PC version and it was the statement where they mentioned missions lasting 2 or so hours. :) I know us die hard GR players could stay engrossed in a tactical GR mission for a very long time and still be ready for more of the same. I really can't see a run and gun mission with no tactics lasting 2 hours and I hope GRIN is thinking along those same lines. Fingers still crossed and hoping for the best. :please: GRIN don't let the PC version even think about slipping into the mindless arcade shooter abyss.

I had hope the day it was discovered that Grin had been captured with the GR Classic logos on their PC's.

To me it represented people who listen and take pride in their work because they want to deliver the best possible product to the market, just like RSE.

I have faith they can deliver. The Developers love what they do and there is nothing more pleasing to a developer than seeing people get what they want, because it means they've accomplished their goals in achieving that.

People have been quick to put things down recently only because they feel they've been let down with GR2 PC never making it.Even more reason why they would want to heal old wounds.

Yep

The scar from the GR2 incident is deep. Lots of folks didn’t say anything at the time either by disbelieve or anger, but now, each time there is news or no news, here we are trying to analyse and dissect and feed upon what could be a great game, or not, because we care. :)

But I’m also concerned about scaring the devs away with that type of awareness.

The truth is somewhere in between.

@ calius

Thought the same thing about the reaction of the PC crowd to that new Xbox360 video.

To use a sport analogy, after a victory, the crowd can celebrate or get rowdy. :shifty:

Cheers

"If I was 16 years old and had to do an Alpha mission or NY mission I would probably throw the whole game in the bin."

What the hell has age to do with it? So if I'm 16 I'm automatically an unsophisticated bafoon? Thats stereotypical....no strike that! Thats just plain insultive!

Kids of all ages 16 to 86 still love GR1 and its style of play.

Argh! I'm too tired and frustrated to rant right now.

But you all know what I mean. <_<

I was refering to me as I did not have any patience at 16.

If you read it correctly you would see I said I.

True when I was 16 i was off out trying to get into clubs and going to free parties in fields ... not wanting tactics in my games.

Its rare to get anyone in that age bracket realy into playing for example gr1 SD night mission for over an hour of stalking enemies. At 16 I would be fragging myself and my team mates to get shots for death animations for fun. :)

Its not "Dumb" but "Fun" ... thats what you want at 16.

^^^^ ahhh god bless 16, old enuf to drink, not old enuf for the pub....those parties were a god send :devil::thumbsup:

but back onto the point, i was a mere child when GR hit the shops (13 if i remember right) and i still wanted tactics in my game (think that makes me a little weird ) , half the fun of the R6:RS was the tactical side to missions.....while the rest came online.

but stalker, colin has a very valid point, he did only state his views, ddnt claim to adopt the 16y/o view point, just his POV at 16.....
