3DCHARACTER-- My 'Highpoly(ish) modeling project'

Recommended Posts

Modeling a character, likely to be meshsmoothed and highpoly modeled.

This is my first real attempt at character modeling.

Character modeling.

(The image for reference is temporary, and from GR2. It's not my work, and not the final concept I'll be modeling. I just happened to have it on hand.)

Update: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v229/SupRore/Progress5.gif .

'Getting past use of that reference.

2300 polygons...

Lots of flaws on the back. :(

Not at all mate. I'm just alittle bit further along with my model and that always seems to attract a crowd.

Have to say it looks good so far. I'd have a little look at how the shoulders and knees are built up though, if you want reliable deformation here you really would need some more edgeloops. But then again it's early days still and you were most likely planning to add that geometry in anyways.

Awesome work sup! I must say that the body is nicely build. I agree with SF on the shoulders and knees. With the way his shoulders are now, he looks kinda small. Maybe try building his shoulders up a bit more. BTW, Is this model going to be used for anything? Or is it just a personal experience type project?

I happened to have the eye area of a face modeled for another project, so I went ahead and put it in the model just to get an idea how the final version would look...

So, with the temporary face and a smooth (not meshsmooth) modifier applied to the early version of this model:

Element: Just personal practice. I'm trying to learn how to apply my knowledge of character modeling to actually doing it.

looks good,

not that im any good at it, but an easy way i would do it is start with a guide, (im sure u did)

http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/7995/lay1xc.jpg

that is bassicly naked, Make the basic figure and then model over that with making a jacket or any model of sort.

Its a better refrence the a 2d image and you can curve the clothes to the actualy shape of a person instead of making them from a picture. Its like a super fine guide

but im no character modeler.... good work thoe

Yeah. I chose not to do that with this model since it's entirely covered in 'baggy' clothing. As this is, I really don't think you'd see a big difference in quality or speed with either method.

Thanks for the suggestions (and praise), though.

Latest changes are some minor (likely not final) changes on the chest, and removal of the arms.

Also, a complete restructuring of the shoulders, the by far biggest flaw of this model. The topology has been vastly improved, but the shape is unfinished.

I'm calling this modeling exercise done. I could make hands, but they wouldn't look good on the arms anyway. Most of this model's big problems are all actually technical ones, from mistakes I've now (mostly) learned to avoid.

The next model will be a whole lot better.
