Ubi Can't Stop EA Takeover

Recommended Posts

Wow, if  EA bought Ubi... EA would be huge.  I mean, they already are the largest player but they could add on a lot of popular titles that Ubi has produced.

'Splinter cell, published by EA. Now with Motion capture!! 12 EXPLOSIVE WEAPONS WILL KNOCK YOUR OFF YOUR FEET!!!

King kong2 --- THIS TIME WITH MORE HUD!'

Ubisoft employees who hold stock in the company were surely pleased by the results of Guillemot's comments. Rumors about a possible takeover boosted the company's share price, which rose 1.36 euros ($1.66) to close the day at 42.40 euros ($51.98).

I never knew that, thats realy interesting, So if they did get bought, the people that have shares would get a windfall of money?? or would they keep the share option with the new owner??

it depends on how the employee option plan was written, particularly with respect to vesting periods and change of control situations - as an employee they would be better to have it transferred over to avoid capital gains.

as to ubi ... i would be very surprised if france actually let its entertainment crown jewel be swallowed up by the 'bad americans. if they really didnt want to get acquired, its not hard putting in a mechanism that automatically splits the stock once any given shareholder breaches a specified % of control (poison pill) ... so frankly, i think guillemot is just throwing jabs at ea to continue its buying spree to pump up his own net worth. that ######.

one interesting point on the stock options, recently, securities regulations mandate that all companies now have to treat options as an expense ... therefore this boost in the options value is gonna cause massive hemmorhaging in operating costs for ubi so their earnings per share in u.s. standards may very well plummet.
