[TCS]BlackMamba 0
Is it worth updating from a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro to a X800 Pro. I can sell on the 9800 for similar to I can get the X800 for. Is it worth the roughly £30 differance though? Edited August 29, 2005 by [TCS]BlackMamba
Crimson 0
That would be a nice upgrade, but how much is the X800 Pro exactly? I know ATi was selling refurbs with the full three year warranty on X800XT's for about $220. (Might look into seeing if they ship overseas.)
GreyHaired 0
Depends on your needs. Graphic intensive programs or games will definitely run better with the X800pro as it's a younger and faster generation than the 9800Pro. you can compare the details by checking the two cards on this site: http://apps.ati.com/ATIcompare/index.asp rage3d.com has detailed info about the latest news about ATI's new chips (RV515, 520 and 530) saying those will be launched by the end of September. That'll mean price drops of the X800 serie. I'm happy with my 9800Pro and just sit on my hands another month. At least.
CR6 0
That would be a nice upgrade, but how much is the X800 Pro exactly? I know ATi was selling refurbs with the full three year warranty on X800XT's for about $220. (Might look into seeing if they ship overseas.) ← A X800 Pro (12 pixel pipelines) is faster than a 9800 Pro (8 pipelines) If I were you, I would see if you could upgrade to the X800XL which has 16 pipelines, and even though it is clocked slower than the X800XT, it is faster than the X800 Pro. Regarding the X800 series, from fastest to slowest: Fastest X800 XT Platinum Edition X800 XT (16 pipes) X800 XL (16 pipes) X800 Pro (12 pipes) X800 (12 pipes) X800 GT (8 pipes) Slowest So to answer the original poster's question, it depends if you feel that the £30 is worth an approx 1.5x (50%) increase in speed over your 9800 Pro Crimson, can you post the link to refurbished X800XT's for $220? That is a deal. With the release of the next-gen ATI tech (read: the R520 is 2x faster than the X800XT and equivalent to the GF 7800GTX), I agree with GreyHaired that at this time, I would wait til later this fall to upgrade as ATI will be looking to clear out some of their X800 inventory and may reduce prices more. NYR_32 6
Crimson, can you post the link to refurbished X800XT's for $220? That is a deal. They were on sale here, but they sold out. I was very, very, very close to ordering one, but waited too long.

CR6, you forgot the X850XT and PE on your list. He may want to look for a deal on a 6800GT (I have one I need to sell... ) if he likes nVidia.
