My homemate just bought a new laptop with Wifi and having one myself we thought to connect them together to play GR and other games (we are not itnerested on sharing internet connection). Is it possible? does GR recognize a WiFi network or do we need the good old network cable?

Thanks

It's not a matter of GR recognizing Wi-Fi. GR will use whatever network is available in Windows ... wired or wireless.

So if you just want to hook up your 2 systems for gaming, wireless is definitely not as solid a connection as hardwiring your 2 laptops together. If you don't have a hub or router, I'd just use a "cross-over" ethernet cable between your 2 systems :)

depending on the set up of the wireless, you should be able to make an 'ad-hoc' connection (thats what netgear calls it), so just the 2 computers are networked. How you would do this i dont know....

My mate and I stayed up till midnight yesterday night in order to create this ad hoc connection with no result :wall::wall:

Then I went to bed. After half an hour he woke me up, I thought it was morning, time to go to work, saying he succeded. Indeed this morning we tried it and it works but have no idea how

Ok I confirm now thet the 2 computer, despite the 2 different languages of the OS (one is in English the other is in Italian :P ) communicate together like a charm.

I was able to do it assigned both of them a fix IP specifically 192.168.1.1. and 192.168.1.2.

Now there is the enxt step: how can I share an internet connection. Again yesterday no result despite we went to bed at 12:30 (I have to admit that from 8:30 to 11:00 I had to script Armenia mod...)

Please forgive me but I have not try to play GR in multi

The internet connection is a simple dial-up in one of the PC so it might be possible for the other computers connected to the main PC to share the internet connection

Right click on the networking icon in the online computer's tooltray.

Then, select status -> properties -> advanced.

Check the box under the heading Internet Connection Sharing, and make sure the sub-selections are appropriate for your network.

That will configure the host to route Internet to the other machine. For the other machine, I believe all they need to is ensure that the wireless connection you have set up is marked as the default Internet connection as well.

I will try it this evening Dannik <\crossfingers> but I have doubts that it will work smoothly since on my googling I found out fixed IP and DNS rather than dinamically assigned. I will let you know

On other issue GR runs in a wonderful wife with Wi-Fi network, actually I never enjoyed so much Co-op matches like yesterday evening

Update:

now I have 2 computers in Wi-FI and in Internet :D . Of course the connection to internet is not the best (21.6 kbps :() but we have it and that's great.

Thanks for the suggestions Dannik but I had to work a bit more to define the DBS, Gateway and so on.
