Foxtrot360 0
OK, im wondering if its worth upgrading now for BF2 and other possible games...... theres a x700 256 mb 8x AGP for only 163$ on pricegrabber and its real nice , but i dont know ether to wait ,and keep my Radeon 9700 PRO All in Wonder now and upgrade it later. or get it now instead of RAM or a hard drive? Plus i just went through like a quarter of a year and counting waiting for this card that i paid a little more for to work (well it was a Radeon 9800 128 bit long story) so buying this id feel a bit bad to go through all this and just get a x700 256MB out of nowhere, plus i dont wanna hape to go through this again , or anything with Heat issues cuz i have a crappy ol HP case. and i think i need RAM and a faster hd but i dunno. should i save this card for next year or 2 when i have to upgrade again? and i dont really need it i dont think , ijust wanna run BF 2 / more games with good looking (not the best looking) and fast speeds. on the other hand im really really stressed/depressed (seriously) about my pc and if it isnt fixed around christmas or so im gonna consider buying it so i can have something that works alone ........ Oh yeah almost forgot, Specs (Crap) AMD Athlon 2600+ 2.08 GHz 512 MB of Dual-Channel FSB333 RAM Radeon 9700 PRO All in Wonder(TV Tuner stuff on back so im guessing..) (dunno how much memory its in the shop) Shuttle MK40VN Mainboard VGA AC97 v2.3 (6 channel audio) Integrated Audio DVD-Rom 12x DVD Drive CD-RW Drive Floppy A:/ drive Mega 450w PSU 56K Modem Western Digital 5200 RPM 120 GB Hard drive Edited July 8, 2005 by Fragbox
pz3 338
I put this together online Case w/400watt power supply ROM Drive: Sony: 16x DVD-ROM 52xCD-R/RW Hard Drive: Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM Mother Board: Abit AV8 CPU: Athlon 64 Socket 939 RAM: CORSAIR XMS 1GB DDR400 Video Card: eVGA Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 Windows XP home edition 789 you can stretch your money pretty far if you build a system yourself. Of course if your not computer literate its going to be a punk to build. + theres unlimited ways you can spend your money... you know exactly what your getting and no fluff or building costs if you upgrade it can be cheaper Edited July 8, 2005 by Prozac360
Dan 0
well for BF2 you want a fast CPU, nice graphics and LOTS of RAM. i mean lots. at 2.2ghz my cpu is abit slow for it. 1GB of ram is barely enough, but my X800XL runs it fine.
Foxtrot360 0
I heard thats only if you want all the highest settings, ill get 1GB soon and until i have to upgrade again ill get more stuff (nexty year), i think its ridiculous to need 2GB of ram to run a damn game and it will not play correctly, and with all thes 6800GTs you would think the stupid thing would work, anyway i got 2 friends and 1 of them has a Radeon 9800 PRO and 512 ram it plays perfectly smooth it even looks like its on high. Besides , im actually thinking it wouldnt make much difference if i got it because it still wouldnt play smooth anyway, especially with all the new video cards and 1 gb of ram still getting buggy as crap i hear, ill get BF2 but i wont waste anything on it..... still considering getting that card if this one doesent start working soon though. Still comes down to it... and not just for BF 2 but for other new games.... RAM or X700 256MB? Edited July 8, 2005 by Fragbox
Foxtrot360 0
i guess people hate me im thinking ill just get a gb of ram now , bf 2 or not my friend has 512 mb of ram and a radeon 9800 pro and its on high and some medium with 4xAA and he said he has only a little lag just because of ram , which is clear. so basically all i wanna know is if this will run bf 2 at medium with aa or not at good looks and good fps if i get some negetive response i still dunno because ppl have 6800s and need gigs of ram Edited July 8, 2005 by Fragbox
Crimson 0
I have a gig of RAM and BF2 runs fine. (Fine if you mean somewhat long load times, and about 45 seconds to quit the game and start using your PC for other needs.) I read on another forum of a guy playing with only 256MB of RAM. If I were you, I'd go with the RAM, and start saving for PCI-Express.
