KillbertSmith 0
It's been a while since I've played GR, a couple months now. And the other day I decided to get back into it, so I called up a few of my friends to get a game started. When I set up the game, my friends tried to join but it just said it was connecting and then it wouldn't do anything. We let someone else host the game, but the same thing happened. It's been like this for several days now, and I'm dying to play.
WhiteKnight77 1
Are any of y'all behind a firewall, either software or hardware? Remember XP has a built in firewall that may have been reset.
KillbertSmith 0
Damnit. Nope, that's not it. I'm really confused to say the least... Any other suggestions?
GreyHaired 0
Port forwarding or maybe not the correct IP address? If you don't have a static IP, make sure your buddies got the right one (and vice versa) http://www.mywanip.com will give you your present IP address.
KillbertSmith 0
no, no, I'm sure the IP is right. That was the first thing we checked. Is there maybe some other way I can try to set the game up or something? I'll take anything.
GreyHaired 0
try to ping each other: start-run, type: CMD then type:PING XYZ where xyz is the other's external ip address. There's a space between "ping" and the IP. See if there's a connection or if it times out.
harntrox 0
solutions: 1. try without xp firewall active 2. or with firewall, open ports: tcp 2346, udp 2347 2348 note: you cannot forward ports (thru XP firewall) from your server if its on a LAN. the server's connection to the internet will only work from the gateway pc directly to the router/cable modem. 3. router configuration. add above ports to DMZ or allow both internal/external interfaces 4. host using all seeing eye. add the server to the broadcast and your friends should see it if your game server is up and running. 5. host using ubi. good luck.
