Latest Weapons = GR1 no more ? ...

Recommended Posts

UBI calls the shots, the trailer just like the one for GR2, represents the basic way the game is going to be. Fine, but my problem is with those the try censor those that you do not agree with. Calius had a well thought out, logical post on his opinion on GR3. Debate him on the merits of his post but I will not stand by this time and let the UBI acolytes shout out dissent this time around.

I've never seen someone take something like a bad videogame so personally. The attitude you seem to have adopted since GR2 PC got cancelled is that the system was trying to silence you, the whole "Give me liberty or give me death," thing. Get a grip, it's just a game in development, not a coup de' e'tat or a revolution that's going to alter your state of living.

The reason for the so called "censoring" is because it just got so tiring, or at least imo that's why. "OMGLOLBBQ! GR2 is t0tally g01ng 2 sXXUrozz teh big oen!!!1!!1 (pR0n!)" I got tired of hearing this day after day after day, and I'm sure that plenty of other people did as well. It wasn't even original, it was the same argument again and again. "They haven't shown us this or that, time to ######."

[sarcasm]I'm sick of this bs whining, I'm going communist. Silence the traitors! Executions at dawn! If you disagree, to prison for life! Das Kapital! Motherland! Etc![/sarcasm]

Im not realy disagreeing with anyone here, good points all round (minus a few shouty bits) especialy 2nd Rangers. I guess im feeling a tad sceptical (not synicle) about the "action" side of it with the new tools. I dont think that having the tools is a bad thing and yes its realistic, my concern was how the gamplay would be effected with such technology vs enemy that cant match it, its a done deal realy "they are already dead" ... kind of thing.

If im tactfuly moving through urban areas unleashing drones and arial attacks to get passed levels then maybe GR3 isnt going to be my thing (I accept that) .. I just hope not, or what i mean is .. I just hope they do cater for a classic feel to it, or the best answer would be modding it (hopefully that will be available). I guess I just like long 2 hour stealth missions far too much for my own good. As also mentioned here its the "feel" of it that counts.

In some respects maybe yes I would like to see GR1 cloned onto a better engine with better graphics and some additional tweaks, no harm in that, lets face it its a formula that works otherwise most of us wouldnt even be on this forum if it wasnt for the original.

I am starting to get that feeling of "Should I have started this topic or kept my thoughts to myself" .... apologies to anyone thinking its a winge.

In another thread WK make a reasonable post and convinced me to sit back and wait and see. But what I see happening is the same thing that happened last time around. It started in the “official†GR forum and then ended up in here. Those that voiced concern where shouted out (in the official site some where even unfairly banned), you can deny it but it did happen, I saw it. This is the last I will say on this subject for now.

I have no problem with the modern weaponry, but, expand the selection of weaponry to give more choice and variety. Include weapons like the M16 and M4, and include suppressed versions. Include suppressed SMGs and sniper rifles. If not for campaign, at least for quick missions and MP. Modders, if supported, can build campaigns with expanded weapon selection.

While I prefer the older weapons myself, and I think that including the XM8 in game is fine as was the OICW, the XM8 is on hold right now so we have no idea what weapons the US will be using for now while the Marines have stated they will be staying with the M16A4. The weapon types whould be balanced. Look what the Army did with the M14, they reworked some of them for use with sharpshooters. That weapon dates back to Korea at least. I see no reason why some current arms won't be in use 8 years from now.

I actually like the inclusion of the drones. While I don't know if I would like the images from it shown in my goggles, I would like to use it to update a command map. That would not be to far fetched. We can then plan a course of action as long as the maps aren't linear. We could be as stealthy as we want that way. With a larger team we could use that information to plan an ambush better.

As I said, we have only seen the XBox version so far with no PC screens or trailers and that is gonna be the biggest problem Ubi will have getting us to "be quiet". Just showing us the action part gives us the wrong message. Sure we know we are going to engage the enemy, but what about how we can truly play? Until Ubi decides to let the devs release PC specific information, we can only speculate, like we did last year, as to what we are actually getting. If we don't get any info, they will have a hard sell on their hands as they haven't convinced those of us who are skeptical otherwise. I will wait and see what they have to offer, if it doesn't meet expectations, it can sit on the shelf.

In stock GR you had the following primary weapons for your default soldiers;

M16 (203)

M4

M24

M249

...and everyone is saying how stealthy it is. News Flash: Stealth was an option in GR, not the main focus.

You were limited to loud weapons unless you had an MP5sd that came along with two of the specialists. Despite this, you could employ stealth in missions to a degree. You could move around covertly, but when you engaged the enemy, it was loud firefight time. If GR3 doesn't have any silenced weapons, that doesn't mean stealth is out the window.

Why is it such an issue to include more weaponry, especially silenced and suppressed weapons. The point is that choice is better, it gives you more options. Then you can play the mission any way you want, take any weapon you want, if you make apoor or inappropriate choice, it's on you. I don't understand the objections to having more options.

I personally don't have any objection to including more weapons, but my point is that having a limited selection as GR did wouldn't be the end of the world, and wouldn't affect the way you could play the game.

Then you can play the mission any way you want
