Sup 0
Pretty nice texture (kinda' warped), and the model looks pretty good too (A little thin, though). WHat's the polycount?
element11 0
about 830 is the polycount. I still might adjust the scale of it too, i havent gotten around to testing it in game yet.
Sup 0
about 830 is the polycount. ← Not bad, if it's made from spline extrudes + chamfer.
element11 0
it is

I can't do that anymore, because every time I do, I wish I was dead.
swartsz 7
But it is the method almost all of us used when we started making models and it is a good way to start, after you get more comfortable with Max you might start learning about other methods. But i think you have done a great job on your second model. So great work and keep it up! Edited May 30, 2005 by swartsz
SnowFella 8
What's wrong with chamfered extruded splines? I still do the main bulk of my work that way even though I do use most of the more indepth tools aswell. I'd say the tecnique used really doesn't matter aslong as the end result is what you want it to be Nice work on the 1911 element Lots better than what my second model looked like! Edit-poly is the way to go imo.
The Worm 0
Hey, very cool! Buuuut... The etching ("Automatic caliber...") is inverted. have different textures for the left and right side of the gun. Still very cool.

pz3 338
switch between them if you can... editable poly and editable mesh are both good
SnowFella 8
Yup, that's what I keep doing all the time. Epoly is good for some things while Emesh is good for others.
element11 0
I use convert to editablemesh alot, if not for every piece's tweaking. I use it for everything including weapon modelling. I dont really know what editable poly is though. What is emesh and epoly good and not good for? what is it? Edited June 7, 2005 by element11
deleyt 0
The initial tool for editing meshes in 3DSM was Edit Mesh (earlier versions of 3DSM) Later on, poly-modeling was introduced and so EditPoly was added aswell. EditPoly is/can be based on multiple cornered polygons, where EditMesh is purely based on triangular polygons. PolyEdit is an enhanced version of PolyMesh. In PolyEdit, operations are parametric, where PolyEdit is not. PolyEdit also has some extra features like "Edge Connect" which are very usefull and can not be accessed from EditMesh. My recommendation is to model everything in PolyEdit. if you need to have a mesh (like making a true polycount, convert it back to a mesh or simply add a "Turn to Mesh" modifier to the stack.
