CR6
Thanks to Anubis for once again representing Ghost Recon Retreat at E3 this year. Anubis went to E3 with colleagues at our affiliate WOLFGaming.net and they saw some really exciting things in store for GR fans! To kick off our E3 coverage, we have a 5-minute GR E3 demo video (44 MB) filmed at Ubisoft's GR3 display. This video hopefully can give fans who couldn't get into E3 an idea of what it was like to "be there". The commentary on the video is provided by Lee Reherman, host of G4 TV's Arena. JTF-2
jesus. that was awful, I... I.... I... can't describe how tasteless that was. And that guy! Oi. It was so tacky. man. I had no idea that's what previews were like. Were all the previews like that one? similar style etc.? -on the plus side, it was cool to see the extended trailer/demo. en4rcment
It was good to see the extended part of that... However, it did make me a bit queasy to see how cheesy the presentation was and how everyone seemed to love it. This clip does nothing but awaken old fears that this is a console game made FOR consolers... "OH YEAH!!! A grenade launcher!!!!"
NYR_32
The guy doing the presentation was "Hawk" on American Gladiators, and you couldn't miss him. Everyone freaks out over things that have no bearing on the game what-so-ever. Take it for what it was, a loud guy who was able to draw attention to the presentation/booth (also this video was done on the first day, by day 2 he wasn't using his note cards as much ). There were plenty of other booths that had loud presentations, that had nothing to do with a game, and I mean nothing.

KRP 56
..and booth babes are more relevant? ← That depends on if they are tactical or arcade booth babes.

Snake@War
Just watched the video, and I say the gameplay looked good, but that idiot from American Gladiators was stupid. I'm gonna research that caseless rifle... BTW: That was a good first post, Gaimon. LOL Edited May 28, 2005 by Snake@War
Kurtz
Forget the ###### doing the presentation, it was the demo that raises my concerns. If this is indicative of the Xbox gameplay only, then fine, but, this is garbage. This is the very same thing as GR 2, with much better graphics. There is no squad control whatsoever or any apparent tactical use of the squad. As far as I can see, they're just an appendage like in GR 2. The tracers look rediculous, the reticle is absolutely useless. If this is indicative of the gameplay, then it's just another arcade game like FTF. None of the gaming sites included GR 3 as a notable game in their E3 summaries, the fact that they only had rolling demos probably contributed to that. Grin has along way to go to make this into a decent game.
NYR_32
Wow you get the entire squad orders system, and tactical movement of the squad from that movie? Come on, you can tell me you know more about those elements of the game from that? Dude it was a rolling demo designed to get peoples attention, thats why you have a lot of things blowing up etc. I'm tired of people jumping to conclusions based on a minute long, pre-recorded movies (which all contain the same footage). If you had any solid proof of how the order system works, or had they released a movie showing the squad moving over a long distance (but hell this game isn't even done yet so even if they did a lot will change) I might be inclined to agree to a respect. The sky is falling....oh wait its just some rain.
2nd Ranger
As far as 'tactical use of the squad' goes, look no further than that first trailer. Player moves squad into position in 'defensive' mode... then attacks. That reminds me of another game, the name of which eludes me right now. Kurtz
The build up to GR 2 included talk about the fullsome squad command system which turned out to be bunk. I don't care if the console game has a worthless arcade squad system, I do want the PC game to have a very good one. It is almost a foregone conclusion that GR 3 will not have 3 squads, character switching or waypoint pathfinding. It will very likely be 1 character with 1 squad. if the game is to have any tactical resemblance to GR, the squad orders must be very robust and precise to give precise control over, preferably, each man in the squad. Bringing back the ROE is a very good step to this end as well. If they do not implement this well, this is going to be another dumb arcade game like FTF. CR6
None of the gaming sites included GR 3 as a notable game in their E3 summaries ← As a matter of fact, GameSpot gave GR3 an honorable mention for Best Hi Def Trailer: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6126660/p-3.html Ghost Recon 3 (X360) In this tense trailer for the Xbox 360 version of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 3, a four-man team walks the streets of a hostile environment, exchanging fire with the enemy while coordinating an air strike, tangling with a tank, and generally looking badass. Kurtz
Sure, it makes a nice movie, but, does it make a good game? The jury is definitely still out.
