Gordo_Viper
XDF Forum From Cambo Just an idea... Some ideas have been getting bounced around in XDF ref; missions, so this is just an expansion on those ideas... Maybe all u mission makers from both Cshag and XDF could put ur heads together, and work together, on a big campaign, those people being dekela, viper, foxhound, oosh, jago....is there anyone else?...probably, sorry if i missed u. Anyway, there could be a set night each week to play the latest mission from the campaign, with all avaliable members from Cshag and XDF attending, (it may also include WTE and WOLF clans for example). The missions could be set up in such a way so they are playable as both co-op and team v team, the choice is there if the numbers are there. The next mission could be made to reflect a continuation from the mission before, or as a result of the mission before...eg; the last mission was a failure so the battle field and next mission reflect that. If we can do this and get enough people interested we will have the numbers to run large scale battles with a number of different types of units being deployed....infantry, armour, air assets, support, recon, special forces...the list goes on. Set teams can be formed, learning to work with each other, and work well with each other. Team Speak channels can be set up for these teams, with a roll being created for a signaller for each team who has a hotkey set up, able to jump channels when required....which can also lead us to the set up of a HQ element to control the battle field. The mission maker could send out, several days before the mission night, in either an email or post, a "warning order" of the next mission, with screen shots of the AO. (for those that don't know a warning order is like a sneak preview of what the mission will be, like a pre mission breifing). So teams can get organised to a degree, and team numbers can be established, (who can make it and who can't), the team leaders can familarise themselves with the lay of the land, via the maps, establish what assets will be avaliable and how they can use them, what units can be used and how they will be used. If required, and if wanted, teams could also use the days preceeding to reherse any tactics the may want to employ. Anyway that's the ruff idea, it has been talked about within XDF for some time, it's just a matter of finding other groups/ clans interested in the idea and then making it happen. Questions, comments, theories, critiques, death threats? Sounds cool to me. How bout u Mission Making Gods? Cole, Deks, Vipes?

AUS_Viper
I like the idea of using many resources to put together missions strung together. One big advantage of this is all us scripters approach things in different ways and we all have different perceptions on what a scenario should look like. I think this is a good thing as you will have missions played in sequence, but with potentially very different objectives / traps / OPFOR etc. A bit like RL if you think about it. There would have to be a reasonable timeframe for mission output though. I seem to be averaging from concept to finished version about 6 weeks. Don't know what the expectation would be, but if we had about 8 guys working on 8 different scenarios, potentially we could produce enough missions to keep the ball rolling. The last thing you want is to get to mission 3 of the campaign and mission 4 is some 5 weeks away. Kinda of lose the momentum. In regards to playing - count me in. Coop would be fun, but I gotta be honest - in team vs, the XDF lads would carve us up without breaking a sweat. Well, carve me up anyhow...... I won't be able to play during the day however, only AUS night time. I only take days off work to script, not play - that way I don't feel so guilty, since no-one knows I'm home Cole, Deks, Vipes? Add Ger to that list too and we have 4 very capable and likely lads who know how to throw together a few triggers and waypoints...... One question does immediately pop into my mind. Coop is fine, but in team vs - how do we test a mission before it enters the "arena"? Whichever crew tests the mission will have a distinct advantage over the others since they know the terrain, hiding spots, kill zones etc.....something worthy of consideration. hotshot
This sounds a great idea, and i'm all up for the playing and, if you still need more people, mission making. In regards to the problem of making the missions within the time frame (a week i guess if the continuation idea would go ahead), maybe it would be better to have two campaigns on the go, playing a mission from one of them every-other-week, and a mission from the second campaign in the week between. The trouble is this might wreck the whole continuation idea, as who's gonna remember what they did two weeks ago? OR Maybe so it is the same campaign, but one week you play as BluFor, the next week as OpFor, then its a new mission as BluFor, then as OpFor, etc. Might get boring playing the same sort of mission again but from a different angle though, unless you only include part of the previous BluFor mission in the OpFor version, and add something extra in.
