X69RZX 0
First, I think we all know the modders here are the reason GR has lasted this long(and GR.net itself). My idea is simple in concept, however I do realise there are many ramifications that would come to play before it could ever be brought to light. Basically, I would like to suggest, that if we do indeed get left out of the GR future series loop, we as modders, come together collectively and form a small company of our own. The basic idea is that we would use the GR engine that we love, and try to get use of the license. Of course they wouldn't give it away, and of course we are not rich. However, I feel that if some of the talent that is here at this forum was to get together under a very structured format, we could definately make a new and better game out of GR. You may ask, why would they release the license to us? I would reply, why not? If they are no longer interested in developing games for the PC, then why not allow someone else to do so, and pay you royalties for the use of an outdated engine? If were able to gain the license, we would be able to make adjustments to the code, and make certain upgrades that we are all aware of as limitations in the current version. Other than that, we would all do our thing, as modelers, scripters, skinners, and artists. I have thought about this before, and the recent loss of GR2 has sparked similar topics of reviving huge modding projects and such. I am for that too, I am only suggesting one better. I just think of all the games that were built on the Unreal engine, and those built on the Quake3 engine, and I think, why couldn't we do the same with the GR engine? The talent is here. The only answer I can come up with is the need for the license, and the motivation/desire to do it. Well, that's my idea, feel free to shred it to bits now.
Zeko 33
IMHO the only problem is in engine here. It's a bit old and even with full SDK u cant do too much. I've read that topic to make a new GR mod with all new ideas and stuff but whats going to happen with it? 2-3 months of work and then u'll get 50-100 downloads! I dunno m8... Game is old and only hardcore fans r sticking with it IMHO. I'm in for some mod with a lot of new maps with good missions on it like Frostbite. Not some weapon mod with 400+ kits to choose. Weapon mods r old cuz i think that almost 95% of weapons in this world were covered in this mod or another one. My 0.02$...
