BornToKill
Well E3's main buzz is going to be centered around the next gen consoles, and one main battleground for Sony and Microsoft. Game developers are going to go with this flow, to show off their games on those new consoles. Its more a case of the console catching up in capabilties of the PC, "the little box that does it all" and as much as i don't like it, it's the way of the future regarding Home entertainment. I do wish we'd hear something about the PC version though, as most of us are in possesion of superior machines.I do hold out more hope with GR3 in its content, as these next gen consoles are that much more powerful than previous, so i don't see such "dulling down" in the development to cater for both Console and PC markets. In fact it should make it easier for developers. NYR_32
Next gen = more power = more open maps + no need to have tangos spawn = less linear gameplay = GR1 like.
en4rcment
Next gen = more power = more open maps + no need to have tangos spawn = less linear gameplay = GR1 like. ← Very true NYR I know alot of you are super anti-console. However, these next generation consoles are going to be much similar to your current PC's. They are rumored to have multiple high powered CPU's/high end vid cards/and be completely ready for internet connectivity. This "might" not be a really bad thing. For one, if they can figure in a way to have dedicated servers host the games the MP could actually be on the scale of GR1. Secondly, it would seem a much better port if they were going to transfer the game over to PC... XBOX 2 premiers on MTV on May 12th and Playstation 3 is supposed to unveil their product soon as well. Keep an open mind, you might just be surprised.
NYR_32
This is the year of the "Next-Gen" hype, its easy to see why UBI would want any title designed for those console to be there. But unlike last year and GR2 Xbox1, these new consoles are supposed to be INSANELY powerful and up there with even the most high-end PC. So GR2 PC had to be built up from the limits of the Xbox to run on mid-end PC's (and adjust gameplay and such to fit the high system specs), there shouldn't be that much of a gap for GR3. Heck with the reported power these new consoles have a throttleling down of GR3 to run on more comon, mid-end PC's may be nesscary!
Kurtz
I guess it is premature to get excited about GR 3 for PC. If GR 3 for console is built for the Xbox 2, that platform is supposed to have far more powerful processor and video card, which would translate well for pc. The big question is whether the game will be the tactical game most pc gamers want (for reference see the original game on pc). Games built for next gen consoles may be less linear, but future games for pc will certainly not be as non linear as GR. BIA and CC FTF are a good example. I do not see any company making the kind of tactical game that encompasses the features sought by this community, such as dynamic campaigns with dynamic objectives or objectives that are different with every replay ( although Harntrox managed that very thing), features like switchable characters and tac maps, complex squad command systems, and do it in a squad based tactical combat game with large open maps. The only game that comes to mind is [OFP: DR], and since I hate everything about OFP, I have to hope for the best for GR 3, at this point my biggest hope is that they even release it. BornToKill
Ye Xbox 2 and Xbox 2HD (with Hard Drive) expected to release this year.Xbox 2 PC expected in 2006. What is interesting is that Microsoft are working to develop their own CPU and Graphics chips. They got screwed by Nvidia in X-box 1, now it looks like Microsoft will soon be in a position to screw everyone else, as they will no longer be restricted to X86 code, and are pushing their own MSIL code.Future versions of Windows OS will incorperate the MSIL code, so anyone wanting their stuff to run on future Windows systems will need to pay Microsoft for a license. This ultimately gives Microsoft monopoly over CPU,GPU and OS development, and us less choice. Bill gates fantasy of a PC in every home is becoming more of a reality. The one OXM and EGM are pushing, IIRC, is 'Basic/400-700$ dollar super console'.
EasyCo
You guys should read this technical article... Linky It talks about the XBox360's capabilities for procedural synthesis and dynamic worlds. Think about a never ending Ghost Recon map....

KRP 56
Just read interesting statement by EA programmer Chris Hecker from the Game Developers Conference where he states that Microsoft and Sony are about to screw game design by introducing new consoles with processor architectures that would run actual game code as slow if not slower than the current generation. They are designed to push 3D engines and physics, but will be terrible for gameplay and AI code.
