Straight back to desktop after hitting commit

Recommended Posts

Hi, first post - I did my due diligence and searched first, but could really find anything too specific to my problem.

So I have retail GR, DS and IT. Patched up to 1.4.

I also have some mods HX4 ,FLA and most recently session1.

The problem Im having is when I activate any of the mods and try and start a quick mission or a new campaign. I can sometimes get all the way through briefing, then sometimes all the way through team setup, then I when I click to commit - BANG straight back to desktop, in the flash of an eye!

No error message. itsjust boots me right out of GR and I have to start again.

I dont have this problem when I deactivate all mods and just stick with GR1 or DS or IT. Ive tried a few variations of of only having one mod activated, but still cant shake the problem.

I've been off GR for 8months or so, and last night I thought Id give her another blast when I encountered this problem, prior to last night that I never had any problems like this.

I ended up removing and reinstalling all GR last night, just to be sure, but still no joy when I restarted.

My system specs are

p4. 2.4 GHZ

windows XP Home

1GB RAM

ATI 9800 Pro.

I play extensively with high demand sims/ other games without problems.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

edit: i see you are loading some kind of cached data out of a user temp folder. either this is a virus (lol) or you have some kind of broke-ass file caching/speedup idea that only M$ could unleash on the believers. disabling their total-software-engineering-failure in their own OS is your best bet. i have no idea what is enabling that caching - i only use M$ for icons and M$Word, so i cant help with the nightmare world of crap they have sold you and called it an OS. but i'm sure theres a button to disable that idiotic caching and that is something i've never seen load in my gr so you might want to check that before the other stuff i listed here.

gl !

f thats not it, i can think of a few other things

1.)

have you changed hardware since your original gr install? if so, you need to delete the options.xml (not uninstalled. dirty file will screw up changed hardware detection)

deleting options.xml or deleting the folder and re-install will correct hardware detection

2.)

you are loading up the eax driver twice. that is wierd. do you have 2 sound cards installed, or have somehow broken windows so it has 2 versions of the same driver loading? (it is possible that eax 2 requires this, i dont have eax 2. dunno)

3.)

if you are installing off a network or cd that has files marked as 'read only', the avatar and toe files will not be generated. this will cause crash after character selection. mark all files in all subfolders as 'not read only, not hidden, not system' and this will solve the problem with read only files.

when all else fails, a clean start might help track it down. try this

1.) re-install directx

2.) uninstall gr. delete the ghost recon folder 'by hand'. re-install.

play other games and home in on : if its hardware, software, or your OS.
