Wishlist for GR3 PC

Recommended Posts

I wanted the gameplay of ghost recon 1 with a new Red Storm engine. GR1 is old and tired, yeah we get lots of mods but its boring, the engine has been pushed to its limit IMO, more over the graphics are just no good by todays standards.

So heres what i want for GR3. (compared to GR1)

Better netcode

Better MP server control/support (look at HL2 for a good example)

Better graphics and physics than the original, even GR2 didnt push things very far, especially when compared to games out for PC right now.

Larger maps with more room for tactics, not just 2 or 3 main killing zones over and over again for 3 years.

Abillity to go in lots of buildings, this would add so much more to the game.

No medic

keep the limp

No driveable vehicles but vehicle interaction in SP.

Keep the same game types but maybe add a couple of new ones.

Abillity to download maps/mods straight from the server you are trying to join, this would stop the community from becoming segmented into the mods crowd and no mods crowd

RSE/UBI is that list too much to ask? Those are all generic principles that we want a GR3 for PC based on, stick to those and you cant go wrong.

- First Person Weapons.

- Realistic Scope and Sight views.

- Realistic Weapon Models with realisitc reload animations etc...

- No third person view at all. ( look at how people play rogue spear online you will see why)

- Ability to pickup weapons.

- Medics only to stop bleeding wich could cause your team m8 to die.

- Multiplayer shout commands, Like AA where you can yell out loud, on the radio, or use hand signals.

- More realistic run speeds.

- Realistic Bullet hits

- Realistic Character Model Damage

- Better Voice acting.

Ill think of some more later.

all real good so far aggree with all the points made this far. Please RSE/UBI don't let us down. One point to add maby allow more items available in your kit than just the 2 in GR1. And Please release MOD tools for GR3.

I would like to add a bigger team.

Dump the plain 4 man team with you controlling only one. Let us go back to controlling any team member we wish. We need at least 8 team member but 12 would be better.

Hope your listening RSE. I also want the open endedness of the first to come back.

Babydave you hit the nail on the head.

Please stay away from the action genre and go back to the tactical. Just like WK said, let me control the 8 members of my squad

Don't try to give us AI like BIA

Improve the command map from before.

Different uniforms. (GR1 One uniform for all terrain??)

Love the "RPGish" aspect of GR1 (Adding skill points to each trooper).

So how bout making it better for GR3. (i.e. noticable difference in troopers performance)

Everyone else has pretty much asked for what i would want already.

Maybe mortars?? not sure how that would play out, just a thought.

Thanks!

Replays, replays, replays.

(Hi PSekula)

Oh and command map. I would really love to see the ability to draw on it in real time. This would add a great new level of tatical gameplay.

Kit restrictions, I would like to have 100% control, like a list of all the options and you can "select" any weapon you dont want available. As well as a few preset types.

I agree that we need moding tools think how long we are going and we dont have any just think if we did we'd take this along way. And we need at least 1200x1200 maps so we can get lost and really have room to use tactics. Driving stuff would be cool too. More foliage than the original too. Going in buildings is a plus because in the embassy mission we could only go in 2 buildings.

- Urban settings(maps, flashbangs, smoke, skins, and weapons(like the mp5))

I really could go on here all day, and I agree with pretty much every point so far. I just want to make a few things very clear and add even a few more ideas, that Im sure have been said time and time again.

First thing, Sniper82 just said it, Modding. Not getting something would be a hge slap in the face, IGOR was great, I know a lot of the modders are looking for something more with GR3, so hopefully we get even more this time around. We have seen some amazing things with GR1 mods, just think what would be possible.

Secondly, to kick the dead horse, replays. Nuff said there.

Hit detection. GR was leaps and bounds ahead of any RS game here, lets see it on a higher level. If your hit in the head, your dead. Feet shots should never kill you! Give you a limp yes, but not kill. I woud like to tie in another point here, most people are against medics, and I agree, mostly. I think there is a huge oppertunity here to improve tatics and hit detection. Medics should never "heal" you, or revive you. But if someone gets shot in the foot, they will die from blood loss after a while. Medic ability should be in the game, but only in this one way, to stop bleeding nothing else! if your wounded, your life should be in danger! Mabey have bandages as a kit option, or standard, but I think this should be implemented, but only to this degree.

Buildings, lets see them again. The building balance in GR1 was great, Id like to see some more of it.

Silent weapons should be in the game, and work properly. I dont want enemies with "super eyes", and just because they are getting shot at dosent mean they should know exactly where Im laying.... 200 feet away, under a bush, peeking.

Combat roll was cool! But it should disorient the player, let the screen roll too!

I like the idea of being able to customize your character a little. If im a girl I want to be able to choose to play as one!

Lastly, dont leave us in the dark with this game, talk to us a little! I hope they understand the importance of E3 this year with the PC crowd.

Hello all,

Here are my wish list.

I just wish a good coop mode.

A system of server side mission like in the first Ghost Recon, witch allow the joinner to join coop game, with altered mission, without having to go download missions on web site.

The option to allow people to join already started coop missions, witch has respawn. That option could be activated or not dépending the host preference.

A systeme witch allow to download maps or mod ingame, if the server allow it and have the upload capacity, in k/sec, without creating lag for players already ingame.

Keep the network aiming systeme like it was in Ghost Recon 1. Witch worked really well.

Create a chat witch is player friendly in so that it can be nice to chat and create a good spirit of community.

Have a dedicated server application.

And most of all, good moding tool. It could be nice, if the game was coming with a map builder like half-life 2, but i beleive it's more a dream than a possibility.

I also hope RSE and UBI will look at this wish list!

And finaly, I hope my english was not too horrible, because thats not my language.

The biggest thing I think is the modding tools. Modding, not just mapping but being able to add new weapons, camo, models and so on, is the key to creating a game with a lasting user fan base. Look at the original GR or Unreal Tournament for good examples... I know there are people here who really liked IGOR. I wasn't one of them. IGOR had significant user-friendliness issues that have kept the GR mod community as small (but dedicated!) bunch. Easier tools would have allowed more people to enjoy that aspect of the game. As much as I love the engine, UnrealEd has become too complex for the casual gamer. I hope RSE will pass on using that one (and HL2, which is also overly complex) and go for something like the Crytek engine.

Second, big open-ended outdoor maps. If I wanted close-quarters fighting, I'd be playing Raven Shield or Splinter Cell or something like that. Give me a sniper rifle and a suitable place to use it and I'm a happy camper (no pun intended). Seriously, whether the map is a shipyard or a dense jungle or desert, make it big enough that we can maneuver around on our own and decide the how and where to strike. Don't make it linear and above all don't make it a rail shooter like Medal of Honor.

Third, keep the vehicles in, but as adversaries or transport only. The best part of the original GR for me was playing the Embassy map the first time and hearing that tank coming and knowing I didn't have anyone equiped to deal with. Yes, I failed the mission that time, but it was such a rush...and even more fun the next time when I was equiped to deal with it. And after seeing the cutscenes of the zodiac and helicopter in Island Thunder, yeah, I'd like to see them in-game even if they are only window dressing or assets that have to be protected. I don't want them to be flyable/drivable combat vehicles...let me be clear on that...but I would like a larger variety of friendly vehicles in the game if only so they are available art assets for mappers and modders to use.

Fourth, and here's the one that is probably going to get me pasted around here. I don't give a rip about the single-player game. A map, maybe two of "boot camp" for a tutorial would suit me just fine. Put the rest of it into making a top-notch cooperative online game and include a full-blown map editor. That means clean netcode, a solid admin interface with lots of options, and missions that scale the difficulty whether you're playing with 2 people or 12. The original GR did this wonderfully just by allowing you to vary the number of bad guys and by making the maps big enough that larger teams had plenty of room to operate in. It's now 5 years later and AI should be considerably better (and I don't just mean that the bad guys can always hit you between the eyes from 200 yards shooting from the hip with an AK-47 older than I am). That the graphics and audio should be improved is a given.

Fifth, realistic movement. Put in some kind of a speed/action gauge (not necessarily something the players can see, but something that adjusts movement speed based and accuracy based on what you're doing). This way, we can move slowly, crouched, and fire accurately; run faster, but not be able to much more than spray lead at the same time; climb over a fence or wall, but not be able to shoot at all while doing so. Just fix it so that if I'm faced with terrain I can cross in real life, I can cross it in the game in a realistic manner. I don't ever want to have to go AROUND a 3 foot fence again, but I don't expect to be able to hop over it while shooting either.

Finally, put the realism into giving the bad guys some real AI intelligence and teamwork. I'm not even as concerned about them giving the friendly AI squadmates really good AI because, as I said, I expect to be playing mostly with a team of real people...whether it's 2 of us playing tango hunt or a couple of full squads doing coop missions. Just don't make the bad guys needlessly dumb and then try to make up for it by making them unrealistically accurate.

For what it's worth, that's my wish list of what I hope they include. As for what I hope they won't...

No third person view.... don't need it or want it. Plus it opens things for abuse in adversarial multiplayer.

No medic.... might be realistic to have a medic who can bandage a wounded teammate, but then, it might be realistic to have one soldier fireman's carry a wounded teammate around too when the team moves on. Don't waste the time on the art or AI to do this. GR worked fine, realistic or not in this regard, leave it alone.

No handsignals.... Let's assume the military has managed a good radio system in each soldier's helmet or just put the commands up on the hud as text. It may not be realistic, but animating hand signals and gestures is complete overkill in a game like this. Lets worry about features that count toward the gameplay and make the rest as easy and accessable as possible. With everything else I have to worry about in a tactical shooter, I don't want to have to try to memorize military hand signals too.

No drivable vehicles.... face it, they just don't belong in a small, special forces based game (granted, the special forces do have vehicles, including some unique to them, but...). Ghost Recon is predominantly a stealth-based game. Stick with it. Use the vehicles in other ways (like the escort missions in GR and DS), or for insertion and extraction animations, but don't put the player in them as a controllable unit.

No ability to pick up weapons... Okay, let me rephase that slightly. I don't think it's realistic that the team should be freely able to pick up any weapon the enemy drops at any time. Now, I do think we should be able to scavenge equipment from downed teammates (you click on them openning basically a mini-loadout screen where you can grab usuable ammo and swap weapons...just so you don't end up carrying more gear than you could have gotten during the pre-mission loadout screen). I think being able to take enemy weapons, while again it may be more "realistic" and desirable if you run out of ammo for your own primary weapon, would require a whole additional layer of inventory tracking for the bad guys that isn't really needed. Plus, if you run out of ammo all the time, you probably aren't playing with the right mindset. :o=:P

Whatever engine is chosen, whether is licensed or made in-house, don't skimp on the SDK. I know it's been said before, repeatedly, but it's important. Really.

SP missions involving Army Special Forces bread and butter, that being foreign internal defence would be great. Actually leading foreign troops into battle as is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan would certainly be an awesome expierince if done right.

And what WhiteKnight, Prozac, GRT et al said as well. Basically a bigger, meaner version of GR with many improvements. Not the canned gamelpay that GR2 has.

Personally i dont mind the hand signals in game, and i do like the ability to pick up enemy weapons, they can often be useful if you find your mission environment changes and to be more effective a different type of weapon is needed ie enter a urban environment drop your m24 and grab an enemy ak74su or at city limts and grab a svd from an enemy guard in a tower to scope out the area around the city. or if you run out of AT you could grab a rpg.

Definitely larger teams to control like GR1, 3 teams of 4 would be ideal in my opinion.

Not necessarily everything that everyone has already mentioned but the option to mod those aspects in. For example, player controlled vehicles, 1st person weapon view. Allow for more flexibilty concerning the game engine so that if people want these funny things in they can mod them in without too much hassle.

YES! gameplay: keep it like GR1. Let's have a list of objectives and several ways to approach them. Serellan and PSekula, i hope you guys are listening. :)

I wish it would come out...

Actually what i want is basically Ghost Recon 1, with the glitches fixed, more interaction with the environment and possible vehicles a few more maps, and a way to either enable some sort of full screen night (as the snow on the regular is annoying, or a grayscale version... the gr2 one looked cool in the vids). Also add the GRboom patch to the exe and patch it for grassassault for those of us hosting. Give us a few more maps, and some new realistic weapons an wallah!!! we're all happy for another year.

Sure some mods can do these but a sanctioned version that ladders and tournaments will support + everyone will have would rock. Also i think this would lead to a surge of GR players on PC as there are so many of us that has Ghost Recon, rather that we play it or not. Release it for 20$ and i bet it tops the current xbox gr2 sales ;) I know i would buy a copy

That is all we require...to hold us off for another year till GR3

yo add to my post, definately have more than 6 team members, maybe 8-12 as the maps should be much bigger than in GR1.

No first person weapon view, definately NO.

I dont want GR3 to be a mix of joint ops and ghost recon, i want it to be Ghost Recon 3, realistic and great.

Definately no unreal or 3rd party engine. If you can improve the current RSE one then do it, if you cant improve it to a sufficient level then make a new one.

More heros and a large regular troop pool like in GR1. If a soldier dies in the first mission of a single player campaigne, he's dead for good and not come back in the next mission. Heros should be fleshed out like in GR2. Regular troops should have more generic facial skins for simplicity like in GR1 but could have different heights and body types to give them more diversity.
