GR3 will have been in development for some time already,It's not like they are just gonna start it now.

GR2 took nearly 2 years to develop.I wouldn't be suprised if GR3 Started in November last year.Maybe before if RSE are not the studio developing GR3.

But IF RSE are developing it, they have a significant workforce available now that RS Lockdown is all but done. But it still isn't something that can be churned out in 6 months, it will have been in production for a good few months at least.

We've only been informed now, basically because there is gonna be something to show about GR3 soon, over the coming month leading upto E3.

As to when the decision to cancel GR2 PC was made, is anyones guess, it could have been last summer, it could have been 2 weeks ago.Ubi certainly wouldn't want to say anything unless they'd got something to show.Thats PR for ya.

Sounds like alot of work.

6-8 months to make GR3 for the Gamecube, PS2, Xbox and PC- plus the "Next Gen" consoles. Don't forget, the PC version is supposed to be different.

Right now it's hard to imagine that happening without a delay...

@Scuba

why do people reference OFP:2 alot?  I thought that was a dead project.  Is that game still in dev?

The latest info I have about [OFP: DR], from what I would call a reliable source, is that [OFP: DR] is in development it's just had it's release date pushed back in favour of a better game engine. Now does that mean that [OFP: DR] will hit the shelves for sure? No. As we have seen here things can and do change and short of any official announcement I will only really be able to reliably say that to the best of my limited knowledge [OFP: DR] is still under production and slated for an early 2006 release.

Wow...big surprise no GR2.

Hopefully now some of those great people out there such as Alpha Squad can fire up some sort of tourney( HINT! HINT!) for the original GR in case they were holding off waiting for GR2 to come along.

I don't see GR3 coming out by Xmas as deadlines are always pushed for pretty much most of the games anyways.

Now we can all go back into hibernation till GR3 comes out or hell freezes over...whichever comes 1st.

:hmm:

UBI, you really know how to ###### fans off eh? You know I have heard a couple of things about the modding community and my cousin is one of them. He as of yesterday said goodbye UBI and hello Valve. Sad but true is that we cant just sit here and read all day and twiddle our thumbs waiting and waiting. We will move on to other things and after what UBI did to Rave Shield with the modding community, I dont want to wait on GR3 cause they will probably try to lock it down too. No pun intended. I guess I will be moving on also to Valve products or maybe when San Andreas comes out start doing cars and buildings and maps for it. Finish the mods for the multiplayer and so on. Just about the final straw with these people. I remember when they were the ones to look up to. ppppffff! Boom! :o= Boom!

We need someone to come out with a storm ubi headquarters mod for real!

Ok here is the scenario. In the mod Rocky of gr.net fame has openly supported ubi and all their decisions with a politcally correct smiling face for the media. But he has secretly commisioned the creation of a special forces black ops unit made up of select few from the gr.net roster for the purposes of interdiction strikes against ubi .

Their mission that the mod would cover would be to launch a surgical strike at UBI headquarters accomplishing two goals. The first would be a stealthy infiltration by a small team using the ventilation system. Their objective is to rescue the RSE personnel held captive and being forced to dumb down their work and make console games (oooo UBI u evil evillll).

Now the hard part would be getting to the hostages without alerting the enemy. UBI headquarters is guarded by mercenaries by the way.

So its gonna be slow going on only engaging the enemy when needed and only using silencers or strangling wire. The slow going movement will take hours. But first team is on a time table and have to have secured the hostages by the time second team is in position to strike.

This is where the missions changes from slow going to fast action.

At the appointed time Second team lands a chopper on the roof of the building and deploys a strike team to dynamically enter the roof entrance. They fight their way down toward where the hostages are. As the enemy is alerted they radio the men guarding the hostages (first team has killed the guards :P) to kill the hostages.

Not hearing the guards respond they send men to kill the hostages. As mercs burst open the door to kill them they are greeted (and killed) by first team and their silenced pistols.

Second team uses speed to fight their way to first teams position then the hostages are escorted to the roof all under 2 minutes. Before the enemy who was shot has time to hit the floor and before reinforcements can come in our heros and the hostages are in the chopper and taking offffff!!! :gun:

As the chopper takes flight... enemy personnel burst open the roof access door to fire on them. This at the same time the chopper lifts off and spins 180 degrees while only 2 feet off the ground and the Texan pilot screaming "YEEEEEEEEEE HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW" while the rear rotor blade slices into some of the guards.

The chopper lifts off and starts to fly away but still gets shot at by some of the remaining guards. Thats when one of the rescue team throws an XBOX retail package of Ghostrecon2. You know.......the one with that moronic.......MORONIC Picture of that soldier with his mouth open as if he is yelling? It lands at the guards feet.......so one of them picks it up...........

................

....then a recorded voice from the box says "SEEEEE YAAAAAAA WOULDNT WANT TO BE YAAAAA!!" *B O O M*

Now THAT would make a cool sp mission. :shifty:

Well not me. I'm just the idea man here. I'm just making a suggestion for the pro mod makers here. Hey mod makers! If you feel nervous and feel if you were to make such a mod UBI might send a death squad after you then make some alterations.

Like have a modeler make the UBI building actually have "OOBEE" written on the side of the building imstead. That way you would be in the clear. ;)

Hi All

Well what can I say apart from that I knew this would happen! Oh man how I hate hate hate consoles! Those crappy little machines for kiddies.

As for GR3 yeh yeh of course you were developing GR 2 and GR 3 at the same time how logical. Why didnt I think of that! Either that or GR3 is just GR2 all along huh :) But with yet another pushed back release date. So in that sense nothing has changed ehh? Rather than saying sorry guys we screwed the dev time and now have to push GR2 out another year (at least) we will say we cancelled it for the gamers benefit and will release and even better version in 2026 called GR9 million!

UBI To be honest I dont care. I will NEVER buy another game from you again EVER no matter what you call it :) You are dishonest and unreliable and do NOT support the gamers that have lined your pockets for the past few years. Without the original GR community you wouldnt have a company. So carry on with your false promises and keep pandering to the console kids personally I cant wait for your fall from grace.

still amazes me how ubi does this time after time and i still hope they will prove me wrong.

if this were a poker game betting for cash i would be naked by now

brings me to another question, does UBI not have its own community?

seems like most of us came from redstorms.

did any one really like ubi since they started?

There are far to many replies to read them all so I am sorry if this has already been said.

UBI have really let the PC based fans down - bet thats already been said. They have tried to spread themselves to thin and attempted to develop something that will please all - but you can never please all.

Ghost Recon was designed for the PC, for the versatility, the keyboard, the mouse and everything else that goes with the PC.

Then came PS2 and XBox with controller units and TV screens and very pricey games. The company execs saw this market and instead of designing something that would really suit the console market they looked at the success of GR and decided to make a version for those black boxes.

To create a really good game you need to invest time and money - not spread yourself so thin on the ground that your programmers are trying to code for 2 or 3 platforms, or even worse, porting one platform to another - something that we all know doesn't work well. What they produced was a mediocre piece of junk that wasn't fit for any platform never mind all.

To be frank, I think that any future title that is developed for mutiple platforms is going to be so flawed that it won't be worth buying - I just bought Brothers In Arms and it was NOTHING like I expected, it is a linear console game ported to the PC and it really don't work.

If any from UBI read this then they need to take note - different platforms have different needs and you can't cater for all in one game. Develop GR for the PC only - it's the medium it was originally conceived for and develop other games for the other platforms, put money and resources into the PC or loose out big style.

gr3-bait.jpg

Yeah, this is called BAIT and SWITCH tactics :nono: - trail us along for over 14 months with promises, then pull the carpet out and replace it with another [false] promise. Screw UBI - [moderator edit] - can't count on them for anything except backstabbing and lies.

Let's see - GR for PC made them a player, then they abandon the pc gamers to offer mind-numbing versions of their games for the platforms where the testing is much easier - 1 standard to test and dbug.... easy money.... $$$$ greed kills.

I will now be switching all of my attention from any GR2/3 news to Battlefield 2 which at least can manage to hit a target release date in some fashion.

GR3 - "Broken Promises" should be a good working title. <_<

Sure is some good reading in this thread and it sure looks like UBI/RSE has hit a screw you PCer's home run with the GR2 decision. Let's not all be strung along with their GR3 promises for us PC players. They couldn't get us GR2 so how could they ever create a GR3 worth buying in such a short amount of time.
