IPod mini or other mp3 players?

I plan to purchase a new mp3 player and tend to buy an Ipod mini with 4 or 6GB.

What's your experience with the Ipod mini? Or do you recommend other mp3 players (preferably with the same capacity)?

I personaly love my iRiver iFP790, its only 256mb of Flash memory however. (There are similar models with 1GB of storage; iFP799). I have taken a look at the iRiver HD models (the HD10) at some stores and liked what I saw and heard.

It is however more expensive than the iPod mini (well at least here in the US).

I have a Ipod mini 4gb, just got it a couple weeks ago, the Battery life is pretty good, depending on how loud you play it, for instance on the plane it was played very loud but it lasted a long time. 4gb for me is enough, the 6gb versions release made the 4gb so much cheaper. But the best part about the Ipod is the Itrip, just got one yesterday, its a little FM transmitter they are illegal here in the UK so I got mine of ebay from America its excellent, I had my car, and 3 radios in the house all playing the Prodigy its like running my own radio station! Sound quality isnt 100% but its good enough!

Turning the back-light off also helps conserve juice

I've heard good things about iRiver.  The only bad thing about iPod is that if the battery dies you basically have to buy a new one.  At least that's what I heard.

Nah. Just buy a replacement battery and put it in yourself. But mine's 2.5 years old and the battery is still going strong.

@avey, I never have it on, it came with it set off, I only turn it on when its dark by holding down Menu. Mainly with the iTrip in the battery life can be short. But its more the battery meter, it was on 0 for 2 hours yesterday before it stopped.]

I hear playing the games really uses it up as well.
