Stalker_Zero 0
Its been a year almost since the last Electronics and Entertainment Expo (E3) where epic games debuted a uninteractive demo of the Unreal3 Engine. IT wowed everyone. :| Since then they have made alot of improvements to the engine. They added Speedtree's fast tree and leaf generator so now it can generate a tremendous amount of good looking leaves, trees and jungle brush quickly and without causing any great amount of LAG. Oh, and if you don't already know the visuals and such are way way wayyyy better than anything the HL2 or Doom3 engine can generate. Well this year at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) epic personnel showed off a brand new INTERACTIVE demo of the unreal 3 engine featuring some human soldiers in a forest being ambushed by robot soldiers. They also showed a video of a dune buggy driving through a city similar to city17 of HL@. But the visual and everything else was way way better than HL2. Interesting though but the journalists was not allowed to record any video from that event. Now I know epic made videos and have videos from that demo/event. Is there anybody out there think they are capable of scouring the internet or finding someone who knows someone that can leak those videos to the rest of us. I think that would be awesome. Sneaky and ruthless......but awesome. Anyone?
pz3 338
unreal is not setting the standards for engines.... there are dozens that can compare to it ... and probly a dozen more that are still in the works its the new standard for engine design... everyone is doing it
Stalker_Zero 0
Well that may be true. However.....after looking through the internet for something better.. As of this moment the unreal 3 engine is probably on the top of the heap right now. They have impressed scores of game developers and several of them has licensed the engine for the game projects. I'm sure there will be better but right now for the near future (the near future being the end of the year and all of 06) the unreal 3 engine is the king. Now my minions........where are me videos?? GRT 0
I can say for once that this is past my counter insurgency/spy/reconassince/investigative skills and resources... Let me think on it..im still working out my schematics for RSE office...
Stalker_Zero 0
Cool. pm me your infiltration plans. Give me some time to evaluate them before I give your operation the green light. But in the meantime I still need an inside guy at epic games to release some new videos of the unreal3 engine. Preferably someone who is mad at his boss and wants to get back at them. Dan 0
well the next E3 is coming up soon, try that.
Stalker_Zero 0
ARGH!! I don't wanna wait! And Grt was only partially successful. The main video with the soldiers and robots in the forest is still out there somewhere. GRT was only able to find the video with the dune buggy. But somebody obviously used a camcorder to record the videom from a projector screen. The quality is horrible. Come people! If you work for epic then tear up your NDA and report to us!!! arghhhhhhhhh!!!!
pz3 338
how bout some whaaaburgers and french cries keep on waiting stalker Look at this untill then
Suli 0
the reality engine is the best one ive seen perform on my machine, better than the cry engine, alot better.
Stalker_Zero 0
BAH!! The reality engine is cool. It certainly has the best lighting I've ever seen in an engine. But I still say unreal 3 engine is better.
pz3 338
engine depends on what you want to do with it.... then it still gets back down to what developers do with the engine....
Suli 0
i cant state pyisics or AI wise. with unreal you get a lot more "stuff" that goes along with it. with reality you get a heavy dose of fundamental tools. all i can reflect on directly is the graphical performance of the reality engine. with the exception of a HDR ( they have it it works good, my card doesnt support it ) if you exclude the HDR ( my card doesnt support ) 9800 pro 1gig ram 2.4 p4 ( the old one from over 2 years ago ) the graphics where identical in quality and functionality to the unreal demo's. the difference is this. you need a current high end station to run the unreal 3 at those levels. on reality you only need yester years gaming rig. on reality 30 to 50 FPS 290,000 + polies ( in view ) full dynamic lighting ( i added up to 4 dynamic light with out the system changing one bit, didnt push it further ) real time PRT texture sizes ranged from 1024 to 2048 that was roughly twice the performance of Cry Engine on the same system, and Cryengine had prebaked lighting in its favor ) it is an very smooth engine, with the best art pipeline ive ever seen. if at this moment i where to get an engine it would be Reality. with its greatly improved workflow and development speed it would be the first choice for a commertial title. it only has one drawback, no built in AI.(however it isnt a bone crunching experience to added to to there very flexible design )
Suli 0
p.s. i should mention im not dropping on the new unreal engine. its a very good engine. but this level of visuals is going to be common with engine in its time frame. unreal just has move funds for marketing. the one thing thats makes me a fan of the reality engine is the workflow. im not sure some one could make it any easier short of automatic asset creation, to get you assets in the game and running. i look forward to seeing the first games that get released so it's final performance can be better judged. Stalker_Zero 0
Well ya know....... They did more testing on this engine and currently a nvidia 6600 video card seems to run the unreal 3 engine pretty well. And thats a budget card.
Snake@War 0
what games use the reality engine? Edited April 2, 2005 by Snake@War
Sup 0
None, by the looks of it. http://www.artificialstudios.com/index.php
WytchDokta 6
The Unreal series of engines are very good as to what they can handle. I have a high end rig, when playing Doom 3, if I look at something on fire, the fire makes the frame rate drop to below 10 FPS. That's with all gfx settings turned on to high. The D3 engine is an awesome engine too BTW, some of the fx that it can do are just simply amazing. Now, I remember a few years back, some one made a flamethrower for Unreal Touney 2003. Using the flamethrower, the game still ran extremely well, at a very high frame rate. On Unreal Tourney 2004, they even got vehicles. I can play the Onslaught mode (Onslaught mode has the vehicles in) and puts loadsa bots on each team....I still get a very high frame rate, no lag AT ALL, and the game still runs really well - and you should know that I have all gfx settings cranked to absolute highest! Unreal 2 also had no lag whatsoever. Even on the second mission where like everything is on fire (you get the flamethrower on that mission too). Once again, no lag whatsoever. For me, it has to be the Unreal series of engines.... Until it can be PROVEN that the Reality engine can do all that the Unreal engines can do and then some!
Suli 0
"Until it can be PROVEN that the Reality" i completely understand your point of view on this. unreal is a good engine. and i understand most arent going to get to use the engine untill the first game is released with it. for me of coarse it already has been proven. that wasnt a video of the engine i ran tests with. no games are currently on the market with the reality engine. thought a decent number are in development. the only and only thing i see as a limit on the relity engine is no intagrated AI. however as i mentioned, you can directly tie your ai into the game very confidently. i think many will find it quite a good engine when they start playing on it, just as they will when they start playing on the unreal 3 engine.
