DENZEL WASHINGTON

Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC (Brook Army Medical Center, in San

Antonio,Texas) the other day. This is where soldiers that have been

evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the States, especially

burn victims.

They have buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a

hotel that soldiers' families can stay at, for little or no charge, while

their soldier is staying in the hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses

on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled to the brim most of

the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of

the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He

got his check book out and wrote a check out for the full amount right there

on the spot.

The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the

word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear

it.

I hope you will spread this story.

Washington has a son who is a Marine in Iraq.

See? Some Hollywood personalities are worth a damn after all.

Way to go, Denzel. My prayers are with your son, and every other service person over in that hell hole and anywhere else.

Semper Fi.

I went to the Fisher House website and there was no mention of this on their News page so I googled and found this at Urban Legends:

Comments:  Partly true. I contacted the Fisher House Foundation for verification of this rumor and was informed by VP of Communications James Weiskopf that while Denzel Washington, whom he says "has shown great compassion in support of service men and women," indeed toured Fisher Houses at Brooke Army Medical Center in recent months and pledged "a substantial donation" to the Fisher House program, he did not "write a check for the full amount" to build one as claimed in the email rumor.

Also, the claim that Denzel Washington has a son serving with the Marines in Iraq is completely false, according to Weiskopf. The actor has two sons, one of whom is attending college in the United States and the other is all of 13 years old.

Still, it does show that some folks have the compassion needed to put their wallets to good use.

Well, even if it all isn't true, it is still good to see someone in Hollywood that isn't trash talking our soldiers, and is actually openly supporting them.

And while he may not have built an entire facility, he made a substantial donation, which is also very good to see.

BTW, I received that as an email, and just copy/pasted.

The first thing I do before spreading any emails (after virus checking it heh) is type a selection of the text into google or google groups. 99 time out of 100, I end up at snopes reading about fake.

It's blind copy pasting that resulted in thousands of people damaging their OS installation when someone decided it would be funny to spread a rumour that a valid windows file was infact a virus. I dunno how many people sent me that "virus warning" telling me to "QUICK DELETE THIS FILE" :wall:

I usually do to, Rocky. But this came from a very close friend, and it's rare for him to send me something that isn't authentic like this.

Stuff from this friend I usually take for granted because he is trusted.

I guess this one just got by him, because he usually does the same thing.

Funnily enough, and seriously, that virus thing I quoted - that came from my friend too! Luckily I knew he wasn't exactly computer savy so that's why I checked it before actually doing anything else.
