lo all

I been reading a lot about the mixed messages from ubisoft about releasing GR2

for PC or not. And one thing has got me wondering,

why can't ubisoft just say it out load, we are no longer gonna make Tom Clancy

type games for PC. Why all the yes, no or maybe.

We all know that Microsoft, Sony and Nitendo pay a great deal of money to game

developers like Ubisoft to make games for there consoles. And also not to release

the game in question on other consoles/PC after a given time or not at all.

The game developers dont deny it, it just how it is. Even Ubisoft has been open

about this with other games, but just not with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2.

Now why is that??? what make GR2 different then other games.

Here's what i think

The diffrence between GR2, and other Tom Clancy games, and other games is that

Ubisoft dosent own the brand name.

The brand name, Tom Clancy, is own by Putnam Publishing Group and Tom Clancy

himself of course. Ubisoft have a contract with Putnam Publishing Group and Tom

Clancy, that gives them the right to distriute games based on Tom Clancy's book's.

Putnam Publishing Group is a huge publishing company pack'd with bright

lawers. I'll bet u big money that in that contract it's specifed that Ubisoft

have to make games for ALL types of gaming units. Not just for the ones

that make the most money for Ubisoft. So if Ubisoft went out and said, what we

all know, that there not gonna make any more Tom Clancy type games for PC.

That would be a breach of contract and they could lose the rights to distribute

Tom Clancy type games. That would be a disaster for Ubisoft. So Ubisoft release

press release saying one thing and something else the next day. Just to make

sure that Tom Clancy's publisher, and there bright lawer's, dosent get wise to

want they really are doing.

And that is to make sure we buy an X-box or a PS2 to play GR2 and Ubisoft

get's a big fat check from MS and Sony.

This makes even more sence after there newest press release came out,

saying nothing about GR2, but GR3 PC is gonna come out. YEAH RIGHT...

Somehow i cant see that, cus that big fat check would only end up going to the Clancy Franchise and in court costs as Ubi find themselves in breach of contract and being sued.

Nice idea but can't see it myself.Although they may have some say in what and when info is released about specific versions of the game which could in turn be part of the reason for the Ubi PR nightmare.

They couldn't say that! They're about to release Rainbow Six Lockdown....right? *cries*

And they're about to release Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory as well, luckily for the SC fans they released all platforms at the same time *strokes her DVD copy of SCCT*

To be fair to A I think the UBI screw up with GR2 has ramifications beyond it's release.

What they can do (or not do as may be the case) with one title, they can surely manage to screw up some other release dates.

Looking around the web, I don't even think there going to release Lockdown for the Pc either !!

They said they were going to release a PC version of Lockdown and it wasn't going to be a port. Never know about them after the way their taking care of the PC GR2 soap opera. :seehearspeak:

Cuz they make more money and they're quicker and easier to develop games for (due to common hardware, unlike the millions of potential hardware combinations that could be found in a PC, all of which need to be tested out).

It's not funny and it's not good news for PC gamers, but those are the facts.

Ur right kimi..

but Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is a single player game and dosent need 25ish

patches to get it to run half right, as RvS needed.

EDIT: No longer gonna make Tom Clancy type games for PC that has multiplayer

functions.

It probably cost UBI a small fortune to have RSE make 25ish patches/upgrades for

Raven Shield. They probably made good money of RvS none the less, but make

more money of the console versions, easyer platform to work on and less

afterwork. Not to mention that UBI, in all likllyhood, get's a big fat check from

MS/Sony, if they dont make a PC version of the game. Forcing ppl to buy a x-

box/PS2 to play GR2 etc.

Not gonna see GR2 or RS Lockdown for PC any time soon me thinks... :(

But look on the bright side, BF2 is on this way and konami's The Regiment

are ready to pick up the tactical CQB type games.

SC:CT has MP.... both TvT and COOP. So I don't see how you can say UBI isn't publishing PC games with MP.

And I don't see why UBI would pay RSE to make RvS patches when they didn't make that game

Developed by Ubi Soft’s Montreal studio, in close collaboration with Red Storm Entertainment

Doesn't say who is responsible for the patches tho

From my understanding, RSE did storyline, some cinematics and a little consultation. Why have RSE people work on patches for RvS while they are starting work on GR2 and R6:4? IMO if any other studio worked on the patches, it would have been the people who did AS.

I gotta hand it to you. You got the whole thing figured out. Its just a shame those lawyers arent as bright as you are. Maybe they should hire you.....

Sorry for the sarcasm, but doesnt it seem like the whole thing would be just way too obvious? I would say that what is going on here is not so much a conspiracy against Tom Clancy, Lawyers, or PC Gamers as it is normal business. If something isnt beneficial to your company dont do it. So heres the real question: Is it beneficial to Ubi/RSE to release GR2 and/or GR3? Which brings us back to the discussion thats been going on for the last six months or so....
