nethawk
It's a GR game glitch really, so it's not really cheating. I've never read or heard of anyone else doing this, but I suspect it's not really new amongst veterans. I use this tactic quite a bit when going FFA on multiplayer - it aggravates the living ###### out of others at times, but it's there to use, so... Anyhow... If you're stuck on a map with someone firing in your vicinity from far away or from an excellent hiding position, simply try this to uncover their hiding spot and get the crosshairs on them... Almost all GR outdoor maps have clumps of small grass (not the familiar three or four polygonal type, but the more or less single tiny polygon type that no one really notices). If you go prone and get BEHIND these grass clumps and search for your bogeys, you will find that all AI and human players (as well as some vegetation types) will show up as slightly white and transluscent in comparison to surrounding foliage and objects - thus allowing you to pick out enemies from I-N-S-A-N-E distances. In Ronski, Neyvn's as well as Sniper's Challenge, I was able to discern (and eliminate) hidden and ghillied enemies from as far as 380 metres, no sweat. You have to adjust your position from side to side somewhat to do this effectivly because each grass clump is pretty small, but it works very very well. Give it a try, and if you REALLY want to ###### multiplayers off (evil grin), shoot them in the foot or arm with a light calibre sniper rifle, and don't finish them off. Try to wound all multiplayers.
Cobblers
Hmmm, never heard of this one myself. Although it still sounds like a glitch to me, so I shall not be bothering with it.
Zantar45
well now i know what to watch out for when playing online. thanks for the tip.
Jex
"it aggravates the living ###### out of others at times, but it's there to use, so..." So don't use it unless your prepared to let everyone in the game know about it. Whichever way you look at this it is cheating as your getting an unfair advantage over people who don't know about it. "but it's there to use, so..." So why don't you use the crater and wall glitch as well then. I think most people who play online would agree that glitching is as good as cheating. All you have done here is admit that you use a glitch to gain an unfair advantage over your opponents. Does this not cross your mind everytime you use it? Jex. 1-4-9
If it's part of the game - it's fair game. I say if you see them - shoot them. All the people whining about it being cheating would not hesitate for an instant to shoot you as soon as they saw you.
Cobblers
Hmm, that may be so in certain quarters of the GR community 1-4-9. But like with regards to the craters, there is an un written law that using these type of "glitches" is as good as cheating. Hey look, if your new to the game then how would you know, and people are fine with that, but people that have been playing this game for a period of time will know these "glitches" and should know better. There are rocks/underneith buildings in a certain maps that I know you can actually crawl into!! These allow you to see everything around you, your not able to be shot at all unless someone crawls in there with you, so how can this be fair? Now fair enough this is IN the game, but it is a glitch, and glitching is cheating no matter how you look at it imo.
San
There should be 2 diferent kind of servers : 1. Cheat/Glitch Server. Everyone can do what he wants, no banning. 2. Reality Server. For people who want to avoid glitching/cheating. Glitcher will be warned/banned. So choose your server I'll take the last one
nethawk
Ok, let me see if I promise to never use it online... hmmm... Nah. By the way, I also know how to get through any fence in any map in GR (all expansion packs) using a certain sequence of keys, but considering the response in here in regards to this tactic, I think I'll stay mute. nethawk
LOL - a bunch of professional cyberwarriors avoiding fences and getting prone behind grass. Drop the purism boys - it's good for RSE to hear about this - it'll help them troubleshoot these issues in the hardcode. SOTOMac
Uhhhhhh - Yes it probably will but what You've been told is that WE ( Most of the Posters in this Thread | Present Company excluded ) don't Game that way and never will. If making RSE aware of Code Holes is Your Aim - Shouldn't You be Emailing RSE with what You've found, Instead of coming in here and calling others who don't indulge in Your Tactics - Supposed Purists, and then being sarcastic about it. We Game the way We want to - Just as You do. You were told previously in this thread that if what You do is the way that You want to do it - Then more power to You... But - It should @ this point be evident that there are better places to Post Vitriolic Diatribes than here @ "GR.net" as You won't find many Groupies here that subscribe to Your Camp. In Fact - IMO, Most of the Regs. subscribe to already Posted Sentiments. Regards,
XRW_Nemo
Nicely put SotoMac...gj nethawk Posted: Mar 4 2003, 10:41Â Just kinda surprised you guys don't already know about these things. Just be glad I'm not making invisible skins. Now THAT would be cheating. Nethawk, its not that we dont know about these things and others like it, its just that your attitude reguarding the use of the "glitches" is not what the majority of the regulars that post here appreciate. Not to say that your opinion is wrong, its just not what ppl want to hear when all we want are clean, cheat free games. Oh well to each their own. If using your glitch makes you feel like you have achieved something or when you look at all the kills you got on the after action screen makes you feel proud after using the glitch then more power to ya. Personally I wont use it, theres no honor in it. Edited March 5, 2003 by XRW_Nemo

Proof that online cheaters are alive and well. You openly admit to exploiting flaws in the game code which give you an unfair advantage. You then go on to further say that you can glitch through fences, and admit to using them. Furthermore you seem proud in the face that you do these things! That makes you a very sad person. ( I wanted to use the word man, but a man wouldnt do that). As Nemo said, if you get a kick out of getting kills by deliberately using flaws/glitched in the game, then good for you. Each kill you get must be so gratifying noing how hard you had to work to get it. Knowing that you lacked the skill to go head to head, and instead had to cheat to win. I pitty you. O, one last thing, if your so proud, post here what name you use ingame. Or even your IP address you have. That way i, and the rest of us, can make sure your already banned on our servers, so that you never get the chance to spoil our enjoyment of the game. Not that you would last 10 seconds going up against any of us, with our skills. Even with your glitches, you'd be sent home crying to mommy. Out. Also "All the people whining about it being cheating would not hesitate for an instant to shoot you as soon as they saw you." This comment is completely unfounded. Of course they will shoot as thats the whole point of the game. But they can't shoot somebody they can't see (i.e. the glitch brought to light on this post) and they can't kill somebody crater glitching. It's only fair game to you because you lack any moral code or honour.
Zebb
It all boils down to trust in the end, we have no way of knowing what someone else has done to their set up, or if they are using or taking advantage of any cheats while they are playing online, and that it why we migrate to sites like this, where 99% of us are happy to play the game the way it was intended, fully aware that there are glitches and ways to cheat in the game while choosing not to, its not that we are naive or unaware of these things, we choose not to use them. There are plenty of sites where using any tactic, no matter how underhand, are appreciated and actively saught, if this is the way you choose to play the game then i would suggest you take any comments there, as has been said before you wont find an appreciative audience in here, and because of certain limitations of the forums we are unable to express ourselves using the sort of language we would like to use... I hope by now you have grasped the point we are trying to make ?...
